Elon did the first landing of an orbital rocket booster in 2015. That was 7 years ago. No company or space agency have since been able to make an orbital rocket with reusable booster. "Orbital" is the key word. "Sub-orbital" rockets for space tourism are just toys compared to the complexity of Fancon 9. This year, Elon sent one falcon 9 to orbit every 5 days. His eyes are on mars with full-reusable and gigantic starship.
just to clarify: the reused 1st stage booster is sub-orbital - the 2nd stage is what gets the payload to orbit and then is deorbited to avoid adding to all the space junk.
So far, yeah, nobody has even tried; that doesn’t mean SpaceX didn’t start a rocketry revolution though. I think we’ll see the trend of reusable rocketry drastically increase as the decade goes on, with multiple other new rockets in production designed to be partially or fully reusable, ie New Glenn and Neutron will land their booster stages, Terran-R will be a medium-lift fully reusable LV, even other countries are getting in on landing boosters. CNSA and ESA have plans to develop fully reusable boosters within this decade, and both Blue Origin and the CNSA have plans for a fully reusable launch vehicle to compete with Starship by the 2030s as well! SpaceX is just 15-20 years ahead of the game, but we’ll see how long that lasts as the realm of space becomes more competitive and opens up to the general public.
@@tma2001 That's why I said "orbital rocket". There's no point in sending the booster to orbit if it is meant to come back down and do propulsive landing.
Unlike Elon, Jay didn't have the guts to resist wokeness. Instead, he embraced it so he could still be accepted in Hollywood. Authentic, but very weak.
Elon Musk is one of those once in a Century people. A genuine Visionary and true Genius. @@Nobody-Nowhere Financial gain? He could have retired nearly 20 years ago when PayPal was sold to eBay, and yet he risked his entire fortunate on Tesla and SpaceX, which if you think back, making an electric car company was about as smart as throwing your money into a pit of fire...and on top of that starting a rocket company? And for being the wealthiest person, he still BUYS his cars from Tesla like anyone else, he doesn't live in a fancy home. All he does is work at his companies. That's not at all what billionaires normally do.
Actually I feel like those "headlines" hardly pique anyone's interest. They may circulate for a few days but people don't typically recall those nonsense things with great detail. What people (like myself) do recall are things like the maiden launch of falcon heavy, the first propulsive landings, the first crewed falcon 9 flight, the Model S dropping, in fact, even the Roadster dropping was profound. I was just getting into highschool when hype surrounding that car was reaching fever pitch. Not only that, but his efforts to push the boundaries with BCI (ie, Neuralink) are actually the most important thing (to me) that he is working on. I hope Elon leads us to a Full-Dive VR reality - not unlike what we see in SAO. And that's the least important implication of Neuralink. The real magic is in how Neuralink and comparable BCIs can and will fix previously untreatable neural damage. Think paralysis, pacemakers / AFib, allowing severely disabled people to facilitate rapid text to speech, to possibly even allowing for digital eyes to become a reality for people with severely damaged eyes or genetic blindness. The possibilities are virtually endless. And if humanity fully digitizes with the help of such technology, physical ailments will be relegated to a thing of the past.

There are some really amazing space RUclipsrs out there. I pretty much watch all of them. I never watch a Jay Leno's garage, but this was a great video that I hope piques interest and brings more awareness to what SpaceX is up to. SpaceX alone launched around 80-90% of all mass to orbit last year (worldwide total) and has lowered the cost of launches already, and this new starship is supposed to bring that down 100x (not a typo!). Compared to Bezos/ blue origin, who's rocket can only go 60 miles straight up and then parachute back down, all in under 20 minutes, a SpaceX Falcon 9 can launch 20+ tons (or more?) to orbit (which requires accelerating to over 25,000 km/hr) and land the booster to re-use it. They've already had 5 or 6 missions with astronauts to orbit, over 180 falcon 9 launches, over 100 booster landings.... There are so many companies and billions of dollars being invested in space, but SpaceX is the game charger, without a doubt. Please check out these great channels: angry astronaut, everyday astronaut, NASA spaceflight, the launch pad, tmro, Marcus house, Scott Manley... and more!. Sorry for the long rant. May it invite some new people to discover this exciting endeavour.

He works hard, wants to do the right thing and is pushing everyone else to innovate. The problem now for everyone else, whether it’s Boeing or Ford is keeping up … SpaceX and Telsa are way, way, WAY ahead of competition. He doesn’t care about that, but for those competing, you better get your act together, and rapidly.
Legacy aerospace companies have never had an incentive to reduce costs because they were the only game in town. AND in Government contracts, the more money you charge, the more money you make. Their was little space "industry" because of this. Just bloated government contracts and contractors. SpaceX is opening everything up by offering real value. Affordability that is creating new space launch customers as fast as SpaceX can reuse their rockets. Well done Elon!

The balance between free market tendencies and rules that have the best social welfare in mind is ideal. But I don't know if it is any longer possible.
Elon just keeps winning and that’s why I respect the guy. Legacy auto with the help of their well paid advertisers spent billions trying to stop Tesla and failed miserably. Elon understands that you can constantly improve and innovative, and to just keep releasing a new improved product every few years is pretty dam slow. Compared to what you can do. Taking Tesla etc from behind the competition to miles ahead of them. That's not to say others out there don't understand the similar principal of "if you don't canabalise your profits your competition will" because that's how you stay ahead and relevant in the world (too many people think capitalists will do anything to make a profit, when the most successful route is doing near anything [cause reputation matters loads so there's limits to what you can do] to bring prices down, and quality up!) but Elon's companies take that to the extreme, they are constantly improving their product, and constantly improving their manufacturing process. Inch by inch they make improvements and roll them out.
elon has the vision thats make him exciting to watch and follow thru.. I think he has more fan base than some big time movie actors and he does all of this with passion.. ppl retire once they make money but he keeps on his passion alive with money.. great guy..

Throughout history geniuses have been considered strange by their peers. I'm not saying Elon is a genius, but he is strange. He has a place in history forever! How many can say that?
He is absolutely a genius. My IQ is between 2 to 3 standard deviations away from the norm. I have plenty of family who is 3 standard deviations. 1 is 4 standard deviations. There is a noticeable difference between someone who has an IQ of 160 vs 145 vs even 130. I'm sometimes called a genuis by colleagues because I am the top of my field in a specific niche, but I don't hold a candle to some of my family members in terms of raw intelligence. I don't have an eidetic memory (photographic memory), nor can I immediately retain or understand complex concepts on the first go. Now, I have through hard work become an expert in something that even a genius would not be able to claim to do at this moment, but I know my limits quite well. If had to use an analogy, Steve Jobs was probably roughly close to my intelligence. He was a type of genius in terms of what he could accomplish and the ideas that he could put together, but he wasn't a genius in the literal sense. While I don't have nearly the same influence or power or drive as Steve Jobs, there is a sense that I am at least capable of what Steve was capable of doing given the same experience. With a person like Musk, I am 100% certain it is impossible for me even if I spent twice as much time and twice as much effort. Musk is definitely an outlier, and even among geniuses, he is the most driven and motivated. Even Jeff Bezos is probably only around 135 to 145. Which is quite high, but still in the realm of being human. You're not quite levitating above mortals unless you're at least 160, which is extremely obvious to me coming from a family where 140 is relatively commonplace.

the great majority of his money is in his companies stock, its with that stock that he owns and controls it. he would have to sell it all to get that money, though selling it would crash the price, so its not really a realistic measure of his wealth. he cash poor, asset rich(because of how much his company is now worth, it used to be worth chump change). That all said, he sold a bunch of stock for the twitter deal. he will probably buy it back later.

Thank you to Jay Leno for getting the word out there. I often wonder how many people have no clue what Elon has been up to these past couple of years besides the headlines like buying Twitter or allegations of impropriety.
Musk has been mostly trying to find a new pedophile island since his friend Jeffrey Epstein got put away. Last I heard he's still trying to secure enough horses to offer parents in exhcnage for the children.
Hes been exploiting workers for financial gain. What billionaires usually do.

Incredible man and contributor to humanity
What an absolute Legend this guy is !!
A real life Maverick .
(Jay always puts a humorous spin to things, A Classic entertainer, always entertaining shows to watch, reminiscent of the the old school.)
Excellent video, well worth watching thank you.
Elon musk and Jay Leno together!?!? These are two hero's of mine. Both for very different reasons but also for some of the same reasons lol. Absolute legends.
Awesome 👏 and totally Genius. Can’t wait for the full show
Amazing video! Where 99% of billionaires are mostly busy building their next superyacht, private jet, megamansion or hypercar, Elon is building the future of humanity. Greatest respect to Mr Musk. Hope he will be with us in good health for many decades!
Great video. I love Elon, he's such an inspiration!
@Elon Musk I’m a fan of Elon not you.
Elon is the absolute pinnacle of inspiration.
lol delusional

Space, cars, and Texas. Some of my favorite things.
Elon is the greatest of our time no question
Greatest what? No question eh? 7.75 billion people on this planet so you are looking at a very small sample size. Statistically it is extremely improbable you could be correct, your statement is based on pure personal bias.
I have not watched CNBC since the third world election occurred, but this is definitely the only trustworthy content the syndicate has produced since.
This really was one of my favorites of Leno Cars.
I know it’s not Jays Garage and it’s not cars but …. This one is my favorite. 😂❤
Amazing. Thank you for making more people aware of Spacex
I love working at Tesla it's always so gratifying to know how much impact our boss has on the world 💯😉

Super cool tour!
We need more people who look forward and are willing to make groundbreaking innovations, both for earth and beyond.
@@nothingtoseehere96 He is in no way a genius. Anyone who talks about IQ in terms of genius has no idea what it means.
@@harryherman5371 Thanks for adding to the discussion. Here's your "I helped!" sticker! You sure disproved him being a genius by an ad hominem attack on me!

Don't your knees get sore?
The United States is truly blessed to have a man like Elon Musk that loves to call this place home we are incredibly lucky to have Elon Musk on our side one of the greatest of American inventors of our time. this guy's single handedly changed how we look at space travel spacex launches so much that it just feels like a standard taxi service at this point He is so good at running this. not only did he save money for the US government but he made legacy companies like Boeing and United Launch Alliance look like complete jokes I mean look at Starliner right now? LMAO not to mention the hundreds of top secret payloads that he has launched for the US military so. this guy has a amazing and long future
Elon Musk is the type of visionary that stimulates the major leaps forward that mankind takes. I view him as a modern day Steve Jobs, but on a larger scale. Go Elon!!! And thanks for bringing this to us Jay. You and your show rock!
What did Steve jobs brung to mankind ? The iPhone ? lol ...
@@22Epic Steve Jobs was a visionary. He wanted to bring computers to all. Up to that time, IBM just saw them as a work place tool. The Mac operating system used a GUI instead of cryptic commands typed into a DOS edlin application. Then the creation of the iPod and the iPhone which revolutionized how we listen music and how we interact with our environment. So yea, I think he did a lot, because of his vision of what could be.
@@johnnicpon5783 are you talking of the dude that was fired from Apple ?
@@22Epic He was fired then brought back because they were crashing the company. They were idiots. yes Steve did things that made no sense to some but at the end of the day he had a vision that I have not seen since his passing. Apple has not really come out with anything that wows people since.
@@shaunwood301 Ok thanks I didn't know that. I thought they brought him back to make fun of him. But you're right they knew how to copy other brands back then, now they only copy themselves which is quite strange. But it works, so it's fine I guess.

I respect this man so much. Sure he has money, but can't deny his amazing impact.
I can understand the hate for billionaires but if they must exist one responsibility should be to use their money. That's one thing people can't argue against Elon with. He's a perfect example of what 250 billion dollars looks like in motion.
thank god he has money! couldn't name anyone who is wiser at spending it..
the great majority of his money is in his companies stock, its with that stock that he owns and controls it. he would have to sell it all to get that money, though selling it would crash the price, so its not really a realistic measure of his wealth. he cash poor, asset rich(because of how much his company is now worth, it used to be worth chump change). That all said, he sold a bunch of stock for the twitter deal. he will probably buy it back later.
It's not liquid cash is what people forget, his rich because his company is succeeding and it inspires people to invest
Musk also made all his own money, none of it was given to him, like many others I can name. And Musk did not just cash out all his money and retire rich, he invested all of it back into his own company.
Fantastic video. I've always enjoyed your videos Jay, and have been a fan from your earliest days in comedy.
Thanks Elon, incredible ❤🦋🙏🏻

Not knowing half of this info, we drove down to Space X last April while I’m South Texas. It was AMAZING!!! It’s at the end of the earth, but once you get there, you’re VERY close to it and it sort of takes your breath away !:-)
Elon is an absolute HUNK. What a hero. And they didn't even mention Starlink, which is revolutionizing global connectivity too. At the moment, Elon and his companies IS innovation, IS what brings humanity forward. Period.

Elon has given to the people the right to Dream again. And this is Huge. There will be failures of course, but as long as people keep their chin up and Dreams, those will be temporarily setbacks only
not only dream but dream big
Exactly! The first step towards true innovation and advancement in the positive direction, is inspiration dreaming large!
"Getting to space is easy, getting to orbit is 100x harder" Sounds like a jab at Blue Origin...
The genius South African Elon :) i love his work
Elons thought process is mathematics and physics, even his English is maths calculations.
I love his passion and ideas and execution. Plagiarizing Neil Tyson, if we have the resources to populate a new planet, we definitely have the resources to fix the issues on Earth.
Well no.... All the issues on earth comes from human greed and u cant fix humanity.
Every dime spent to travel to space is put in the pockets of hard working people here on earth.
