@MeredithOD You know those poles on the left catwalk of the hill? My first time going up I saw the 2nd pole up, thought I was at the top, only to have it pass by and be only halfway up. But if you close your eyes, it's fine especially because the rest of it is AWESOME
i actually went on that ride in 09. i was 8 at the time and was freaking TERRIFIED of that ride. i was actually so short (just went past 48") that i couldnt see anything but my handle. i was screaming so loud, that i couldnt hear myself scream at all! but still, it was a sweet ride :)
The slowest lift... ever. Cedar Point's Magnum has a longer lift and takes about the same time to get to the top. Still, I can't complain because the ride is pretty exciting!
@RCT3Mitchell It's not so much rough as it is aggressive. It's not painful or anything. It's all personal preference, though. Some people hate Phoenix because it "throws you around so much", and that's the furthest thing from a rough ride.
what is up with the cameras on the lift hill? I was afraid filming on this one because I thought they would be watching for people filming, I know they dont like cameras on rides I always try to sneak it on anyways, this is a fun ride rode it twice in a row
@MeredithOD i think phantom is alot smoother running than thunderbolt. you should try it once its just like the thunderbolt and jackrabbit thrown together.
I absolutely will NOT ride any roller coaster.....the Jackrabbit broke me of that back in the late 70's when I was almost thrown out of the car on the double dip! If I want to die, I can find much more interesting ways!
i like this ride, but i still have to say that the Steel Phantom was a lot better.. never take loops or corkscrews out of a roller coaster.. good thing for the Sky Rocket. : )
Perhaps for the first time one rides it. Usually it is the suspense of the first drop, yet on this coaster, it is the 2nd drop that is the largest on the coaster's run. I am assuming you been to Kennywood and thus you probably know that none of this park's coasters are 'normal'. Two of it's three wooden coasters have mid run lift hills. The smallest one, Jack Rabbit, it is the third drop that is the most intense, with a 'special' double down hill. The largest one, Thunderbolt, is so unique that not only does it have a lift hill in the middle of the ride, it starts off with the smallest drop and each drop gets larger until the last one is a 95 foot plummet into a ravine. The park's 'medium' sized coaster may look like a normal racing coaster with a normal lift hill and first drop...but if you pay attention, you end the ride on the opposite side you started from. So the trick is on, you the rider. Kennywood's Racer is one of only a few racing coasters in the world that are designed with a moebius track. Instead of being two separate tracked coasters, the Kennywood Racer is actually one continuous run looped twice around itself. So you leave on the left side of the station you end up on the right side, and vice versa. So what is the big deal? Well, so many times I see it with conventional two track racing coasters that they only run one side. BORING! With a coaster of this design, you HAVE to race the trains (release them at the same time). So Kennywood is a very unique park with very unique coasters and rides.
I hear ya ! It was the worst 2 minutes of this almost 61 yr old lady ! IDK how I let my son in law & grand-daughter talk me into it ! Eyes closed all the way ! Now I really saw what I missed, NOTHING !
+Tylen wrong. the steel phantom had 4 inversions after the 2nd hill and over shoulder restraints. they took the inversions out because the ride was dreadfully rough. and it went through the first loop right after the 2nd hill at its fastest point. (over 4 g's) insanely fast for a loop. it literally beat your head and neck so hard on the shoulder restraints that riders could not wear ear rings. a different company was brought in to renovate the ride and remove the inversions. if you google image photos of the old steel phantom you can see the fabrication on the track tubing supports is actually completely different than how it is now. part of the track is arrow dynamics and part is morgan. arrow is original morgan is after the renovation. i have actually never ridden phantoms revenge. last time i rode steel phantom was the year before they removed the loops. i was like 9 or 10 years old and i dont remember much because i had my eyes closed. trust me. it had a reputation of being one of the roughest "new" steel coasters of its time. it was very fast too.
i went on this sometime this pass summer (i went on it with a cast on so we got the front seat cuhs if u go to customers service they will give u a slip to skip the lines on any ride but the sky rocket with 3 other ppl) and we got the front seat( was 12 years old) and i couldnt even see how fast it was and scary.. i was scared at first bt we stayed on like another 3 times xD it was so fun.. even tho i almost fell out cuhz im really skinny and my fat step mother was in it 2 (and it was loose )
@RCT3Mitchell the old ride beat the crap out of you because of the head restraints you kept banging your head back and fourth.... the 2001 version lets you be free with a lap bar
