“I never said they were going to be low fat or fat free, I said they were going to be delicious!” 🤣 Rachel, you are my kinda people!
When I heard Rachel say that I died laughing!! I’m still laughing. I love Rachel.
Fat is good, carbs, not so good, processed foods, seed oils and sugar are poison.
Oh, that is so awesome!
I love the way Rachel cooks with love
Our bodies need fat to metabolize various nutrients in our food. Many foods in the store labeled low fat or no fat have other unhealthy ingredients added to them that have no benefits for our bodies.
Watching you cook makes me wish we were family:)

Rachel, I've been cooking all my life, a professional chef since 1985. I learned to cook from my mother and grandmother. Watching you, takes me back to those days, learning as a kid. Your skill is top notch.
The only problem I have, is I can never watch just one video. I end up watching a series of your videos, then go to the grocery store and buy a bunch of stuff, which is also not good, because its just me and my wife...
Keep on rocking. I'm watching and enjoying every video. Gracias por todo.
I hear you and do the same..it's all good!!..

“Some others use olive oil”, with that look of utter disdain…made me laugh so much. Thank you for this recipe! I’m so excited to be able to make authentic refries beans, it’s one of my all time favorite foods and I’ve been looking for a good recipe. Lovely video, gracias!!!!!
Yeah, I know! LOL! She was like "whatever, girl, I'm using traditional fat and you should, too."
Definitely!!! All ingredients have its place. Olive oil, Italian, bacon grease LA RAZA!!!🤭🤗🤗🙆♀️😎💞
FACTS!! She didn't say it was gonna be low fat... Flavor is what matters she on point 💯
Hi Rachel,
OMGosh! I made these refried beans. I left my whole, cooked beans in the refrigerator overnight for the flavors to marry. My son was in the kitchen when I finally got around to the second part, I waited another day. They married 2 days. I want to say though, prior to my review, that I am a connoisseur of refried beans, taste wise. I grew up with my Mom’s best friend’s recipe that she got from her friend, who was Mexican. Mom made that recipe for years when we had Mexican food. They were good, but as good as yours are. All my life I have judged a Mexican restaurant by their ability to make refried beans. If the beans were good, then the rest of the food was probably going to be good too. These beans have far surpassed any beans I have eaten anywhere. I used more bacon grease than 3 tablespoons, as 3 tablespoons would not make them sizzle like yours did. I used about 7 to 8 tablespoons. We do not have them very often, right? So that’s OK. Thank you for this recipe. I know my children will love them. I will treasure this recipe always. As I have said before, your Ron is a lucky man.
The best beans 👍I love beans💗
I recommended this to my granddaughter who's really learning how to cook real Mexican authentic foods! Hard to find teenagers that really care about our dishes, she's on it! She already knows how to make conchas! Very proud of her and Rachel is a perfect teacher! Gracias Rachel! 😘❤️
Omgosh! I lost my parents several years ago and your cooking reminds me so much of my mom and dad. Especially that bacon grease LOL. I came across your channel a few weeks ago and I am so in love with it. I wish I would’ve paid more attention to a lot of my parents cooking and so this is the next best thing. A lot of Cooking Channel‘s out there get so complicated and I just love the way you put everything together, and the way you explain all the steps. Now I can put good hearty homemade meals back on the table for my family.
Try the Mexican rice. ;)
I agree. Great videos and food.
Rachel, I really love your videos. I'm 75 years old and had to learn to cook by myself so no one has taught me. Your videos are like my mother teaching me the right way, although she never did. She was a good cook but impatient and didn't want me in the kitchen. Thanks and keep cooking.
I love all your cooking! The way you eat the refried beans is the way I like to eat them!
Love the instructional video and of course, that apron too❣️
I never said that they were gonna be low fat. I said that they were gonna be delicious. Yes! I will definitely be cooking this. I love learning to cook from scratch 💜
I now love you and your videos! Great job. I too love what I call cowboy taco for breakfast. Tortillia with refried beans, chedder cheese, and a fried over easy egg chopped up right on the beans. One of the best breakfast tacos. Peace!

My dear friend, when our babies were young, we lived in a small town and she would call me and tell me lunch was ready! Baby Devon on the stroller and I would walk over to her house for lunch. She mostly made my favorite, refried beans on flour tortillas with hot sauce or a homemade salsa!! Oh my goodness, I loved those tacos! I could eat four or so!! Lolol... Im going to make some beans! BTW, I love your hair dark! Beautiful! That apron is so pretty!!
Aww, I have memories like that too, my grandma always had cold bean tacos wrapped in a kitchen towel on top of the kitchen table ready to be eaten, and a molcajete full of salsa...I decided to let my natural hair color grow out and so happy I did, thank you. My beautiful apron was a gift from my cousin, thank you for your comment. ❤🌲
@@rachelcookswithlove this reminds me I heard someone say their grandma always had sweet potatoes in foil sitting on wood stove. He said if you wanted a snack, or something sweet, perfect, or you could put one in your pocket to warm your hands. -). We all have similar memories. ;)
Hi Rachel, I am making your refried beans. First attempt. I grew up in San Diego, next to Tijuana, Mexico. Been in Oregon for 20yrs, and I miss authentic Mexican food. My best friend was Hispanic, and her mom cooked refried beans, and homemade tortillas. Omg, I still dream about them! Thanks for sharing your recipes.
Lived in southern Cali and moved to southern oregon in 1991. The Mexican food in in oregon does not compare to california. And it also go for Chinese food.
The best! Oh my goodness. My mom always had a pot of beans and homemade tortillas for us. 14 kids and sometimes that was all we had but we loved it!!!
Rachel, I use bacon at the end. I fry bacon in the skillet and leave the fat in it. I crumble the bacon and put it in while I am mashing the beans. I use lard as well, so two kinds of fat flavor. I really like having the browned bits from frying the bacon in the dish. That said, I was never taught to put anything in with the beans and water! I can't believe I never thought of it. I can't wait to try making refried beans with onion, garlic and bacon in the water! It's been years since I made refried beans because of all the fat and salt but now I am inspired by your knowledge to make them again! They are one of my favorite things to eat! I also like them just in a flour tortilla, maybe with a little salsa. I'm so excited to eat them again! Thank You! Oh, I also learned the right away to make enchilada sauce from you. I was doing it all wrong! 😆 You are such a good teacher and an excellent cook!
I always tell my kids, we will never starve if things get rough. We always have our backup, our tortillas frijoles and papas! It can be eaten all hours of the day... Our own Mexican Snickers Bar! It's our protein bar if you want to get technical but I would avoid using too much grease, that's just me but either way, they're delicious!! Thank you Rachel! Loving your videos! ❤️😂🤓
Miss Rachel, I have watched you cook and you are really something! I love how you cook and how you savor the food you make. Never stop teaching us.
MRS😁
Love this, love this, love this! First my abuelita, then my mom and dad, now my wife and I, fix our refrieds just like that! We don’t add salt because we use shredded Mexican cheeses! I like to melt the Panela on the frying pan, then make my bean burrito. If we’re having company for breakfast we break out the frozen Piccadilly, add some fried eggs and enjoy the morning with our coffee and juices! Thank you for bringing back dear memories!😳🙋♂️🙋♂️👍👍👍👍

That is good to know, thank you.
My dear Rachel, I am sure that my beans would never be as delicious as yours. Your beans are packed with joy, humor, passion and love. You are gifted.
Ok I am making a pot of beans today and I learned something new from you. The calories de pollo with tomato in the bean juice! Nice touch! Also, no more frying my bean in oil, I'm saving my bacon greese for this from now on. Also , I like your cebola y garlic when you are frying them. I cook my beans in the pot exactly the same way except for one thing.
During the first boil I add 1/2 teaspoon of backing soda and scrape out the foam, when it begins to boil. I make sure all the foam is gone before letting it sit. I strain and rinse the beans well removing the baking soda and the gas the beans will give me if i skip that part!!
I toss in a ham hock for flavor and slow cook that with my beans and the onion and garlic. It's part of my next meal to have with the beans and a tortilla and some rice on the side. So the baking soda removes the gasses from the beans before they are cooked. You can add it to the overnight soak method the same way. Just rinse well and add fresh water and cook until tender.
I love you apron and purple is my favorite color
Thank you for reminding me to use the bacon fat while frying them to nake the beans delicious!
Thank you so much 😊 I absolutely love 💕 your videos!!! I have learned many things from you and I am now making flour tortillas and we love them. I also make lefsa which is a potato tortilla made with cream, cooked and riced potatoes, butter, salt, sugar, and flour. I just got a 10 inch tortilla press and going to try the flour tortillas and see if it works without all the rolling. If they are too thick then I can still roll - I am 72 and my joints aren’t what they used to be. I also thought it would come in handy for the lefsa also and maybe pie crust. I will experiment and see what happens!! God bless you and Ron really appreciate your channel.
Thank you so much for sharing my friend, the tortilla press is not good for the flour tortillas, the dough doesn’t spread like it does for corn tortillas my friend but try it out and see. Blessings and thank you for your comment.❤️

Good question
I saw her use from the jar for her enchiladas, it looked delicious!
I just watched her chicken mole recipe today. She used the Dona Maria mole paste (not the sauce) as her base and added home made chicken stock, extra seasonings and chiles to the mole. So my guess is it tasted like scratch with half the work of total scratch.

Hello Rachel, my fave chef, I used to strain my bacon fat but found there was so much flavour in the little bacon bits and reduced bacon juices that I leave it in. All seem to mix well into whatever I am making. Thanks for the tip on salt as I used to add at the end because I heard it would make the beans tough otherwise. Your way will be MUCH better!
Just fixed these a few days ago, they have gotten better with time. I served them with Mexican rice and enchiladas-all home cooked with Rachel’s tortilla recipe. My husband said they were out of this world.
I made mine this afternoon. I put cilantro in mine with garlic and the fat from a pork roast that I put in a crockpot before I boiled the beans. Now I going to fry them up and I will try onion and the tomato/chicken seasoning. I don’t have the bacon grease so I will have to use oil. Man I wish I had lard! Thank you for this video! I love how you cook! It reminds me of my mother’s cooking who grew up in San Antonio.
