    Nice engineering. I get the ground effect and small aero footprint makes it very fast with less wind resistance. That crouch looks to be a bit uncomfortable for a long trek and lack of suspension would concern me but man what a nice ride! It looks like you got upwards of 40+ mph with great handling. Thanks for sharing this with us. Invention moves us all along at a pace that suits the soul...

      you only ride it as long as you have a hill. so there are no "long trecks" there are no pedals. this is for bombing hills.

    Get a regular bmx frame, flip frame over, installing forks and handlebars wrong way, weld a post where seat post would come out, seat where cranks were.

  • @johntechwriter

    Ignore the unimaginative commenters, this looks like a great riding experience.
    The environment for this shoot is terrible -- all that urban traffic. If you're located in Portland, take a day (preferably sunny) and go to a nearby mountain with a decent paved road to the top and shoot your video there.
    It would be cool to have two gravity bikes in the shoot, drafting each other and going head-to-head, etc. Rider skill is a big factor on this platform, I can tell.
    The motorcycle leathers/helmet and brakes indicate you take safety seriously.

    @MrErock5353 It is a steel shell filled with solid lead. Weighs about 26lbs. The weight helps lower center of gravity and also carries your momentum through slower sections. It's also a play on what gravity folks call "bombing hills". :-) thanks for watching and commenting.

Used to scare the living daylights out of the TRiMet drivers and commuters when I'd whip past them.... :D Really way too much debris on the shoulder for safe riding. Used to pop alot of tires, LOL.

  • @jerkinstillalive1
    @jerkinstillalive1 10 лет назад +8

    It's simply made to downhill fast, and it's obviously faster then a road bike just by looking at the height of it. Plain and simple. Traditional bikes are made to commute, this is made to go fast with as little wind resistance as possible. Just like a trick skateboard deck and a longboard, they're made for different things. Idk why anyone would talk bad about these, and if they do they most likely just can't understand some things are made for different purposes & it's pointless to try and explain to them

      @Christopher White people have a problem with skateboarders because they're so disrespectful and the attitude that goes with it. Also there's a lot of thuggery and arrogance about where they feel entitled to skate. If young skateboarders were way more cool and more respectful they wouldn't get so much hate against them. They bring it on themselves.

    nothing new here, we did this with our bmx bikes back around 1987. Just put on axle pegs to rest your ankles on flip the forks the other way around through the frame, maybe some pipe foam over the frame where you rest and blamo! (removed chain, sprockets, crank, pedals etc) Some did upside down handlebars, some axle pegs in front, some just held the fork tubes.... no ER trips ever required for us :)

    • @77Avadon77
      @77Avadon77 5 лет назад

      Fun but also extremely dangerous. One thing I worry about would be the speed wobbles. Anybody who's written a BMX down a steep hill knows what I'm talking about. There's not a lot of traction in such a narrow Tire. But he clearly knows some of the risks as he's wearing the right gear.

  • @autoparts321

    we did this 25 years ago as kids. anybody can easily mod a regular bike into something like this, just take of chains and pedals. flip handlebars upside down, lower seat. old banana seat bikes were the favorites, put some freestyle pegs on the rear axles, thats about it. I think you should go with some thin skinny wheels and tires that are high pressure for less roll resistance. Maybe add a small fairing for the rider to tuck behind. Can add more ballast for increased gravity effect / momentum.

      Haeral Use the kinetic energy of going down your hill, to go back up the hill you work on or something 😉 would be a cool concept but if you were able to make it up the other hill, it would have to be a little smaller to compensate for friction and stuff. So you wouldn't have enough energy to go back up your hill.

    Goodness everyone is so full of hate and negativity. This is just a really cool crafted piece of engineering that should just be appreciated. All the ducks saying negative Shit should just deal with what makes them so unhappy in their common, uneventful lives. Cattle...sad sacks. Cool creation. love it with a bionx.

    Ahmmm, don't see what's the gravitiy-difference between this and the normal bike. Also there are two major flows in this design:
    1)The way you push yourself looks extremely uncomfortable.
    2)The closer you are to the ground the more difficult is for a car/lorry driver to see you thus the probability of getting ran over is greater.

    • @willscottmatt
      @willscottmatt 10 лет назад +10

      yes, this design does flow very nicely

    • @donsjuand
      @donsjuand 10 лет назад +5

      1)Lower center of gravity means more responsive turning
      2)Lower center of gravity means less wind resistance and more speed
      3)He can add a flag if he wants
      4)It can be fun to think differently. Always something to learn.

      what, you mean like downhill snow skis, ski jump snow skis, bobsleds, luge, grass skis, snow boards, etc (and some may argue, Fords). It is a purpose designed vehicle made for high speed downhill fun, it is not meant for everyday commuting.

      This is clearly much faster than and much different from a standard bicycle. The low profile means low air resistance and the lack of gears and chains means low friction wheels. In other words, this thing a specifically designed to go downhill fast. If that doesn't sound like something you'd find fun, don't get one.

      Some people are just too dumb/lazy to find out for themselves what something is made for.
      A 'Gravity' Bike is just that (the clue's in the name), they're for racing on downhill sections of road, just like Street-luge for example.
      No-one's trying to re-invent anything here onth3hous3, it's just another fun thing to do.

    • @onth3hous3
      @onth3hous3 10 лет назад +1

      John Doc. As an engineering student, I am not "lazy/dumb" to find out anything. Thanks for the assumption though. Also, as an engineering student....I can clearly say that this is a pointless "sport" as you call it because I see it getting very popular (sarcasm if you didn't catch that). There are already bikes designed for speed....why make another?

      Arif Rider That is why this is a bad form of transport... You wouldnt drive a car if you had to push it up the hill, right? I do understand that its smaller than a car but if its supposed be used as transport then its kinda useless... But I guess its just a toy to have fun with.

If VT doesn't scare ya, head over to Mt. Washington Access Road in Lincoln N.H..
