I am a crocheter and you are making what are called chains with your hook. When you put your hook into the original slip knot and pull the yarn or material through, you are making a chain. Your technique is great and this is a great idea for using crochet for yet another idea.
Thank you for this fun video! I have a tip that I use to determine Approx how much string and beads I’ll need. Keeping the string on the spool, add just a few beads and go ahead and crochet a one inch length. Count how many beads it took. Then multiply that number by the length that you want. (10 beads X a 36 inch length = 360 beads) . If you need to know your string length, unravel this one inch piece of work, measure the string that you used and once again multiply by the length that you want. These numbers will get you close, but keeping the string on the spool will allow you to add more beads and length from the opposite end when you cut it and continue on to the perfect length that you want. ❤
What a great tutorial. I’ve been a crocheter for 50+ years and as you were saying probably not the right terms, I said, who cares? It doesn’t matter what word you use to describe an action as long as the person watching learns/understands the technique. If they want, they can always go on to learn the crochet terminology later. What’s important is that they have fun and learn something new. My only tip was going to say don’t cut the cord from the spool, but you already covered that👍🏻 This opens a whole new world of possibilities for jewelry. If the crochet chain bracelet gets someone exited, they might want to move on to single crochet beading which creates a little wider base. They also might venture into the world of bead crochet as well, where they can create beautiful hollow tube jewelry. The possibilities are truly endless! I love seeing someone new to crochet get the “bug” or addiction as I call it. With a hook & a string the world is your oyster! Another place to find inexpensive hooks, yarn, & even beads is thrift stores. I once bought an entire bag of the steel hook (like you used), a giant ziplock bag for $1.00! Bargains are there to be found. When I was teaching, I was easily able to give all my students a hook without breaking the bank. Oh, I guess thats more than 1 tip 😂 There are lots of ways to build up the shaft of the hook to help with arthritis. I have osteo and rheumatoid arthritis so using the tiny hooks take their toll on my hands. The latest versions I’ve seen on RUclips & TikTok are people putting a tennis ball on their hook or beauty blenders. You just pierce the hook right through the ball or blender, using the ball or blender as your handle. The demonstrators said there’s a learning curve to using it but once you get the hang of it, it becomes simple and less tiring/painful on the hand. The craft stores also sell an ergonomic handle you can insert your hook into that will tighten up around the hook like a drill chuck works. Lastly if you have kids or grandkids that have tons of the rainbow loom bands you can make a holder around the hook from them. Ok, I think that’s it. I’ll stop before my comment becomes a novella. Thanks for sharing your project. Cheers from FL😺
Thanks so much for the tips. I really love to crochet and wish I had spent more time learning from my paternal Grandmother. She was a master at crocheting. I still have the huge table cloth she made me for a wedding gift in the pineapple pattern. I don’t think I ever saw her just sitting. Always knitting or crocheting. I’m glad it’s not a lost art as it’s so much fun to do. Maybe it’s time for me to break out of my one truck pony and see what else I can create!
@@KelliesBeadBoutique you’re very welcome. That’s wonderful memories of your Grandmother. My one Aunt was like that too. Always making something. She made huge bedspreads as well as tablecloths, doilies, etc. for the house. They were made from the #10 cotton thread. The kind that comes on the cones. She created all her own patterns and was definitely an artist. She also made all kinds of winter clothes for the family. I have two gorgeous and huge doilies she made for my wedding. I cherish them even more as she is long gone. I learned crochet in 4H. I was taught by a lefty. It took them a while to figure out why I was having issues back then. They thought I must be dyslexic. When they figured out I was right handed they set me opposite her and it was smooth sailing from that moment on. I think I was maybe 6 or 7 when I learned. After that I just devoured everything I could learn about it. My latest obsession is mosaic crochet. There is a woman from Iceland who teaches it on RUclips. Looks super complicated, but extremely easy. You should check it out. Also another great RUclipsr is Crystal at Bag-o-day crochet. She has over 1100 free tutorials on her channel for anything you can imagine to try and do. Both of them are excellent teachers. To change up your crochet bracelets you can always try making one with a button as the clasp. You have so many beautiful Tierra cast ones. You can just tie the button onto your cord. When you’ve made as many wraps as you want you can create a chain without the beads that when folded in half is long enough to slip the button through, but not so loose that it falls off. You attach your last chain to the first chain of your intended loop by putting your hook through the first chain of the closure, wrap the cord over the hook, and pull it through both loops on the hook. It’s called a slip stitch. If I confused you there are tons of YT tutorials showing it. That will close the loop and attach it to your beaded chain. You can always tie a couple knots to make sure it’s secure. You’d put it on the same way you would any other type of wrap bracelet (like the Chan Luu style). With your creative style, I’m sure you’ll come up with absolutely beautiful designs. As a side note, I saw a woman take old crochet pieces from her family and others she found at the thrift store and turned them into a curtain by stitching them all together. Very Bohemian and a great way to display pieces that were just tucked away. Looking forward to your next design. Cheers from FL😺
Love this!! If anyone is curious, it took me just over 10 yards of S-lon. I am an experienced crocheter, so if you are not, I'd cut an extra foot or two just to be on the safe side. Also, I did use a 2mm crochet hook, so if you use a different size hook, 10 yards won't be enough.
I love this! That crochet stitch you’re doing is called a chain. I can see myself making multiple bracelets while mindlessly watching TV. Great way to use up some odds and ends seed beads. Thank you for this tutorial. 😊
Another great video Kellie. You really must ignore unpleasant people that enjoy being negative. To what end anyway? Love the project, using S-Lon, and using the clip. I usually make S-Lon a self needle, dip end into clear nail polish then replace cap without screwing it down. pull thread out. Lid scrapes off excess polish. Run fingers over it, let it dry and it usually does the job for entire project. But we all do things differently. Look forward to more videos ( no pressure😳).
I just watched your video and it was delightful and made me smile. I teach crochet and I teach the slip knot and the chain stitch exactly like you demonstrated. I enjoyed your sense of humor and wish to thank you for sharing your talent. Crafters bring a bit of joy to the world. Your opening photo was eye catching candy.
I’ve made a crochet necklace before, I love it! They are so comfortable to wear. Thanks for showing this as I really wasn’t sure I made mine the right way as I’m not a knitter, crocher
Kellie. I will never get my prep done for my new school year!!! Now I have to make this piece 😂. Seriously, with all of the smoke and ash we are Dealing with in the Shuswap right now this was exactly the diversion I needed today. Thanks so much for all you do!
Kellie, surprise I am crocheting a bracelet. I’m in McPherson Kansas where my youngest grandson got a scholarship to play soccer and attend college. This is their homecoming so my daughter came to watch him play his homecoming game. This a great project for traveling. I haven’t crocheted in years but it all came right back. As always Thank you Kellie. ❤️
Actually the easiest way to make sure you have enough thread for this particular type of bracelet is to not cut your thread from the spool. Place all of your beads onto the thread, create a slip knot at the beginning to hold your hook and begin to crochet, this way if your stiches are larger than expect due to not being familiar with crochet or using a larger hook, you do not run out of thread, of if your stitches are tighter you do not have an excessive amount of leftover thread. I make these and crochet necklaces like this often.
Kellie, this has been amazing to learn. I am not a crocheter either!. So I had to learn from scratch. It has been tropical storm torrential rain for days now here in Cozumel. No internet most of the time, and sometimes no power. Anyhow, funny part was it took me a while to get the slip not and the crochet part. When I finally got to the end of my 165 beads, the internet was out and I couldn't see how to finish. Saved it for the next day. You have saved me during this "tropical storm" season. Easy to do and looks great. Thank you so much.
If you have some beeswax and the threading end on your crocheting cord gets frayed, rub the beeswax onto the end and it stiffens up the end and makes threading easier. Leaving the wax on the cord overnight helps even more.
Aack, something new to crochet. I’m an avid crocheter and am always looking for something new. This may be my next project when I finish the 2 shawls I’m making. Looks really easy and came out beautiful, and I like the different way to wear it.
So happy to see an S-Lon tutorial! I have MILES of it here that I got years ago, intending to do beaded kumihimo. This is lovely! Thanks so much, Kellie.
I found your RUclips page on my Google News/Feed page and decided to click. I am in bed watching TV and just reading the close captions on your video and I already love you! Your attitude and the way you say 'hey try what you want', 'I'm not perfect', and that you are not pushing your own store is so refreshing! It seems to me like you care more about teaching strangers how to make something beautiful than making money for yourself! What you do is a true talent and I'm not just talking about the jewelry! Thank you for taking your time to do a kindness for strangers! I will subscribe and share your page. I also cannot wait to watch your videos and try some of them with my daughters! Thank you so much and God Bless you!
Thank you so very much for the lovely comments. I have always enjoyed teaching people what I love to do and I’m glad you enjoy my style. Cute idea, that's why I started to make these chains for myself and now all my friends wear them too 😊 so nice in summer in hot weather! 👌 You friend will enjoy your gift! 🤗
I'll to tell you what I'M going to do with it... Make about 100 of these! I have so many seed beads it's pathetic... but now I can make this with them and not feel so silly! Beautiful!
I just made a dozen of these! Gave a couple away - I’m making them in every color plus some school colors. I realized that these are perfect for moms of little ones - no latch to pull on and break. I’m using Chinese knotting thread (nylon) in 0.5 mm. Thank you!
I crochet with fine cotton thread and I have small beads to use. I am going to make a bracelet like yours and crochet the ends in. This is a fine idea. Thank you so much.
Wonderful video. Thank you very much. I've intended to make one of these for years, but every time I get the beads threaded on the cord I like the way they look side by side and I just end up stringing them on wire! Oh well. Maybe one day I'll get one made. Thanks again for the video.
So many wonderful tips on top of a great design. I crochet and you did great demonstrating it. Thank you! I love your channel. You’re a wonderful designer. 💝🥰🤗
This is so stinking cute 😊. I taught my granddaughters to crochet and can't wait to share how to make this. How fun! Thank you Kellie for another great tutorial 😊
I so love this lovely piece and your instruction is nice, no cutesy nonsense, thanx. What a great idea. The crochet word for what you are doing is chain stitch, the simplest crochet of all and the most soothing and meditative I think, and the foundation for all crochet. I am a newbie crochet and this I can do, glad it's so simple yet elegant. I make seed beads on memory wire but they are stiff and not that easy to wear at least for me. I have so many beautiful seeds that cry out to me but I had no idea of how to do use them easily. Will check out your website, thanx so much.
I am a wood worker and gourd artist. I’ll be in Europe for a month and was looking for a craft to keep my hands busy. I will love to presetting 10 of these for the trip Then I can pack 10 mini spools to work on during the flight and give them to ladies I meet along the trip. If they admire the one I am wearing, I’ll give it to them. Thank you for the perfect craft. I’m really excited about this. I’ll be ordering beads from you. The selection at the M store was not good. At least I learned the process. I did crochet as a girl and young woman. That part was a snap.
You’re doing awesome. You might not have all the terms but you are getting the point across. Thank you for being so brave and doing it. Many blessings alway. Love it!!! ❤
Great tutorial. I make these all the time but don't close them. I add a button or larger bead on one end and a loop on the other. This way it can be worn as a bracelet, necklace of any length or even an anklet.
I like this idea ❤ I fear it won't fit to my liking and I'd be taking it apart to change the length. I might just try it both ways though. I have lots of beads to use. My wrist is much smaller than hers so I'm concerned about the measurement.
Whoo-hoo! I figured out if I use a Beadsmith Big Eye needle it's much easier than stiffing the end of the cord! Much faster. Now if I could only master the crochet stitch!
I am like you only crocheted once ,my sister can knit, crochet, sew etc, but you make it easy to learn, I willtry to make 1 as I have ordered alot of s lon from you and need to use it up. Thanks again Kirsten D Ontario Canada ❤❤❤❤
From one freckled gal to another, I had some of the same red marks that looked just like yours on your arms and the dermatologist last week used liquid nitrogen to burn them off. It hurt a tad, then blistered up over the next 3 days, but is now healing to nice new skin!!! It is sun damage that just keeps going through a cycle of opening up and then healing really really slowly then they just come right back again, you should see your dermatologist and have these removed so they don't turn into even more abnormal cells (cancer cells), It is just something that happens to us light eyes, freckled people. Nice tutorial BTW!! Hope you take my comments in the helpful spirit in which they were intended and are not offended by them, as I was really hoping to help out a fellow artist.
Thanks! I have had so many of them burnt off over the years that my dr stopped. They have really flared up over the summer so I need to go back and get a couple of them checked out. Thank you for your concern. ❤️
@@KelliesBeadBoutique Ahh. I see. Glad you are on top of that an aware as it seems that most aren't and people ignore things sometimes when they are on their bodies since they see them all the time they just don't even notice them anymore. I hope to start on a bracelet like the one you showed here this weekend so will be rewatching your video and rewinding over and over till I get it right! thanks for the tutorial!!
Thank you for reminding me how much I enjoy crochet, which I've done on and off for decades. I used #10 crochet thread, a US size 4 (1.75mm) crochet hook, and 165 6/0 beads, and I ended up with a 9x around bracelet (not tight). I want to try it with silk.
I just made it with a 6/0 bead mix...looks great! I also put a slider closure on it...I have very small wrists so the slider will allow me to adjust the bracelet a bit better.
This is absolutely beautiful. I just got finished making a couple of these… One for me and one for my sister. I’ve also created necklaces by crocheting beads and wire.
This is so cute Kellie 😍 and love the simplicity 💖 Now I know what to do with that spool of S-Lon I've had for years since my beading days 😀 Thank you for another wonderful tut
Hi sweet friend!!!! I absolutely love this!!!!! And have made so many!!! They are very addictive! This reminded me of your "cherry blossom" bracelet with the wax linen cord! So I jumped back and watched that video again and have made several of those beauties!😁😁😁 Thank you for all your time and inspiration!!!!! Maybe that would be a great "re-make" video???
Thanks so much Carleen! I’ve often thought about redoing that one. I remember one year when I was walking around the Bead and Button show and everyone was wearing them and talking about them. I guess they never go out of style!
@@KelliesBeadBoutique Yay! I'm so looking forward to it! I so missed your face today! There are.... Six more videos... They are my go to tutorials... I would think a refresh would be beneficial if you would like my opinion 😊😘💞😁

If you have some beeswax and the threading end on your crocheting cord gets frayed, rub the beeswax onto the end and it stiffens up the end and makes threading easier. Leaving the wax on the cord overnight helps even more.

So many wonderful tips on top of a great design. I crochet and you did great demonstrating it. Thank you! I love your channel. You’re a wonderful designer. 💝🥰🤗
Thank you so much!
This is so stinking cute 😊. I taught my granddaughters to crochet and can't wait to share how to make this. How fun! Thank you Kellie for another great tutorial 😊
You are so welcome!
That is going to be a fabulous memory for you all to share!
Love making these! Great way to use up all those beads and make room for more! Thanks!
Glad you like them!
Brilliant idea. I'm always looking for ways to use up my odd beads.
Wonderful!
What a pretty piece of jewelry! Love it. Thank you.
Thank you! 😊
How fabulous! Enjoy your trip and happy creating! ❤️❤️
I also like to gift the jewelry I wear to people I meet.
This is beautiful Kellie and I’m grateful you know exactly what you’re doing!
Thank you so much!
Brilliant!!!! Its perfect for those of us who can't bead crochet!!! It might be easier to do.
I love to crochet with beads. I've been crocheting rosaries for family and friends. Keep up the good work!
Thank you! 😊
You’re doing awesome. You might not have all the terms but you are getting the point across. Thank you for being so brave and doing it. Many blessings alway. Love it!!! ❤
Thank you so much!
Absolutely love this design!!! It is simpler than I thought it was and I definitely need to give it a try.
Go for it! Thanks for watching. ❤️❤️
I have to stop what I'm doing now and go look for my s-lon. Thanks, Kellie!
🤣🤣🤣 happy creating! ❤️❤️
Simple and gorgeous..the colors match perfectly..watching from Mauritus Island
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you!!!! You have the best tutorials. I like your teaching style. Very easy to understand.
Glad you like them!
I love this Kellie, I need something for in between bigger projects that is easy and can do anywhere. Thank you for all you do for us.
You are so welcome!
Great job!
I am like you only crocheted once ,my sister can knit, crochet, sew etc, but you make it easy to learn, I willtry to make 1 as I have ordered alot of s lon from you and need to use it up. Thanks again
Kirsten D Ontario Canada ❤❤❤❤
You can do it!
That's beautiful! Thank you. Oh, Walmart has crochet hooks, singles and packs with a few sizes. They're a little cheaper sometimes. 😁
Thanks for the tips!
OMG !!! I have been wanting to know this technique for a long time !! I love this !!! Thank you 🙂
Glad it was helpful! It’s pretty fun to throw together. You may have a few beads you can use. 🤣🤣❤️❤️
Simply beautiful
Thank you! 😊
I don’t know how to crochet but I think I will try to make this. You got lovely results from a simple stitch. Thanks for sharing.
You’re welcome 😊
Thank you Kellie. Love watching your projects.

Wow! I could not make it, I don't think. Very beautiful.
You could! It’s so easy.
I'm thinking about it, Kellie. I may just have to give it a try, I like the bracelet soo much. :) @@KelliesBeadBoutique
I'm getting ready to try this one! Thank you Kellie!
Wonderful!
Actually, I got 10x around...
I just made it with a 6/0 bead mix...looks great! I also put a slider closure on it...I have very small wrists so the slider will allow me to adjust the bracelet a bit better.
Oooh!! I really love this one. Can’t believe how simple it is. I’m definitely going to have to try this one, just need to get the hook.
Hope you like it!
Ooooh, fun and really pretty! Thank-you Kellie!

Terrific tutorial, and beautiful result. Thanks so much. I’d like to make this.
Hi Kellie! Cute and easy bead project. Love it! FYI: The stitch to secure the bead is called "slip stitch."
How wonderful! Thank you for sharing this! I was wondering what to do for Christmas gifts!

Love this. Thanks so much for showing. I’ll be ordering the products to make a few for gifts.
😘😘😘
