I've been accused of being paid by the Americans, the Chinese, and now for sure they are gonna say the Russians! What I share on RUclips is my personal experience, and I would be glad if you were open-minded enough to realize that what we normally hear on our news might not fully be the truth! PS: this is a short video because I am experimenting with a few things trying to bring back the channel up to the views it deserves!
I appreciate this opinion, but your understanding of economics is... incredibly poor. Purchasing power parity (PPP) is a tool we use to compare economic conditions between states using different currencies; it is purely meant as a means to measure the relative purchasing power of individuals in their respective countries in a way that better accounts for things like services that aren't internationally traded. It is constantly misused (even in so called mainstream media), and is ONLY meant to measure RELATIVE living conditions. Aggregated PPP GDP figures are basically meaningless (nominal figures are most often what is appropriate when making aggregated comparisons); per capita PPP GDP figures are what we primarily use for living standard comparisons, but even here Russian PPP GDP per capita is currently 55th in the world at 35,310(USD), while a country like Germany enjoys PPP GDP per capita at 66,038(USD). Russian is a relatively poor country by western standards, even adjusted for PPP, even with the current controls in place to prop the Ruble up (it'd be much worse otherwise). That said, there are many, many wealthy Russians, as their economy is top loaded (Gini of .40) compared to most countries in Europe. What we are seeing in Phuket doesn't have anything to do with the idea that Russia is doing well economically, and everything to do with wealthy Russians seeking a place to hide themselves, and their kids from conscription while having many options blocked by sanctions.

I literally just got back from Thailand, and the most pleasant international tourist were the Russians. Which probably explains why phuket was my favorite of all of thailand maybe because its mainly Russians there. And I miss Thailand soo much already.
You’ve educated me a bit more now on Thailand. Good for the Russians that they now travel to Phuket versus Odessa. Most of us in this world are free to travel to our favorite places of interest. Unfortunately, whenever a popular foreign tourist destination becomes popular with persons from another country, the visited country (Thailand in this case) eventually lose their traditional values. Local businesses will change to entice this large group to increase their profits. The popular Thai restaurant now serves only Russian food. Personally I don’t think this is uncommon, Cancún Mexico is most certainly Americanized. Travel to Queretaro, Mexico or Mexico City and you’ll find the real Mexico. Years ago, I traveled to Barbados. It seemed everyone there was from the U.K. My advice is that if this happens in a place you enjoy, consider traveling to another area/city within the country, where traditional values, food, life, etc. still exist. Excellent video Michele! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I was there in September/October 2023 and yes whilst there were a significant number of Russian tourists, I saw more Israeli, Australian and Chinese tourists. Depends on the time of year and beach/area on the island.
That's interesting. I'm here now and I'd say it's 80% Russian which is way too much of any nationality. I myself am Australian and have hardly seen any Australian, Israeli or Chinese as you mentioned. Nothing against Russians, but it's a little overwhelming to the point of not wanting to return if it's like this again. So maybe need to pick a different time of year. I've travelled to many countries in the world and certainly never experienced one nationality of tourist dominating to this extreme. It's a weird feeling hearing Russian all day when you're on a tropical island in Thailand.
Hi Michele nice to see you as always. Yes! I hear the Russian tourists have taken over Pattaya and are benefiting Thailand economically which is good. Thanks for sharing this informative brief episode🙏🙏💙💙
Thailand is now full with people from Poland (must be cheap flight from there or? ) , i heard TUTAJ one million time when i was i thailand, please a video for Poland ;)
I always love to see you'r point of view on the places you travel, not only sight seeing!🍀You'r chanell is one of my favourites for years now,so hope to se you soon🍀
You made your point at the very end of your video. Russian women are very beautiful and almost always fit. Thailand is the only time I get to see them 👏👏
I think in Thailand you gotta divide the Chinese in 2 cateogories: the full time residents and the tourists. I played basketball with the residents, and it was cool - by the way, I lived in China for 5-6 moths. But the tourists to me... it's strange: they just move in groups, I wish they would explore more by themselves.
As a Russian, thank u for this video. We really like Thailand, and Thai people. Very kind, great service, amazing climate, and delicious food. And plus one new subscriber for u :)
Im in Phuket right now and am experiencing this “Russian invasion”. Firstly they are just people like anyone enjoying their vacation. The problem is they can’t speak any English. So if you try to communicate it goes no where. Secondly being single guy i find some of the women attractive but they are all here with their partners. So basically you can’t speak with them or date them. So they just take up space and maybe drive up prices. Nothing against them they just unfortunately don’t bring anything of value with them.
But Matt, if you think about it, they might say the same thing about you, me, or others: we just take space and don’t speak their language. And that’s also what many Thai say about all tourists
@@MichelePonte sorry I didn't convey exactly what I meant. It's not about speaking the language, it's about the willingness to connect. From my time in Phuket I've found the Russians to not offer any basic interactions. You can try to be pleasant and connect but they offer nothing. There's no effort from them to be friendly. Compare that to a group of Chinese I met recently whose English was minimal but we had a nice interaction and a few laughs. In fact I freely interact with all nationalities regardless of language, it's called being human lol. The Russians are just very cold towards any human interaction. That's why I say take up space because they offer nothing in return. When I travel as I know you do too, we make efforts to interact. Travel isn't just about taking it's about giving. Hope you understand what I'm saying, it's about making efforts to be open with others, both locals and fellow travellers. And since you mentioned the Thais, I do know from directly hearing from them that they prefer tourists from some countries over others. I won't say which but you can probably guess.
@@MichelePonte another thing to add which you didn't cover in your video is that it's not just slight increase it's 80-90% of the tourist are now Russian. That's too high regardless of whatever nationality. Whether Australian, Italian or Indian, such a majority gives an unnatural balance that makes it feel very weird. Like it has become a Russian island now. Definitely feels uncomfortable, especially with how little interaction they offer. So yeah I don't think you really get it, or you're not being honest. A balance of tourists feels so much better, you never want one nationality to dominate so heavily or it does feel strange.

Ffs. Stop the war, and don't involve everyone else 😈😈😈. Our kids and the rest of us in Europe etc don't want to be involved and we don't want war. 🤬🤬🤬
