At 61, “cute” is not what I’m striving for. I am an admitted makeup junkie, especially eyeshadow palettes. I’m looking for youthful. I know that I’m not in my 20’s, 30’s or even 40’s anymore. I know that I don’t like the “dewy” look, to me it just looks oily. I really appreciate this new (for me) technique of applying my blush. Thank you.
I always appreciate side-by-sides because they get my brain thinking about new looks! Could be fun to see a series where you recreate your own version of looks from old make-up ads. I'd also be interested in a nostalgic look back at makeup that's gone that you miss.
I love how you don't come into the video guns blazzin' like so many youtubers out here. Instead you're so freaking chill and have a nice way of explaining to where I listen to the video in its entirety without wanting to skip thru. Don't ever change. Awesome tips, btw! 🎉❤
I have a thin face, and my cheeks have gotten flatter as I've aged, so I started bringing blush onto the center of my cheeks to add some roundness. Every face shape is different, glad you really make sure people know that!
I have this I put it on the center of my face and on the tip of my nose and use highlighter on the edged of cheekbones to pop them out more so I get a bit rounder face.
It makes me so happy to know I’m not the only one who’s trying to make their face look rounder. 99.9% of makeup advice is for people who want the opposite!
I’ve learned this “cute effect”, placing blush on the apples of my cheeks. I’m 56, and I’ve never, ever, never, NEVER, done this before. I’ve always placed mine higher up on my cheek bone. I very recently began using a new blush that I was introduced to because my 19 year old niece was wearing it and her cheeks just looked so pretty. We have the same skin tone, so I knew it would look the same with my coloring. I asked her what she was wearing, and immediately purchased some for myself. With my new blush I decided to mix it up a little bit and change the placement. I knocked my husbands socks off 😊, and I’ve had so many other compliments from people not actually sure what it is I’ve changed 😉. I think it’s taken about 5 years off my face, my husband said I look like I did when we first met 27 years ago…but he’s been known to tell a tale or two.
i’m confused then what’s the new placement that you got compliments on and that your husband loved the high one or the one in the middle of your cheek aka the “cute” one?
@@inteliguana1741 The “apple” of my cheeks, as Alexandra mentioned. I’ve placed my blush up high on my cheekbone my entire life. I’ve only just begun to place it lower. It really does make you look a little younger.
Your lipstick is such a beautiful color! 😍 I have a very round face, so I have been placing my blush up high for quite a long time now. It has made a HUGE difference in adding structure and a healthy color to my face, especially around my eyes where my dark circles cast a lot of dead grey shadows.
I absolutely and always love your discussions about Tools and placement! They make such a huge difference as you could obviously see in this video!Thank you so Much. Great content!
I love how you advocate for customizing to our unique faces! I have a cheek shape like yours and absolutely agree a high blush placement is IT. For those w rounder cheeks, that application to the apples of the cheek is SO CUTE
Love this so much!!! Would love to see a matte/dewy side by side face. I would also love to see a video dedicated to enhancing lips.. I have pretty small/thin lips and would love tips for enhancing 😊
Thank you for showing how to make the high blush placement cute. I've been placing my blush high because I need to and it works for me, but have been missing the cuteness! You're the best!
I have similar cheekbones, and this is how I wear my blush! The undereye blush is common in Douyin makeup, and I'll usually take a touch over the very top of my nose bridge as well, instead of across the middle. Almost invisible, but adds a hint of that cuteness 😀
I have the same cheekbones. What you say is especially true once older. I've even had to pretty much stop contouring because it's become too easy to really make my cheeks look hollow and boy do the smile lines take center stage then. Also, I think this is my favorite of your lip looks. Can you please share what you're wearing? I'm forever trying to find that exact color and sheerness. Your entire look today is my go to preference, so I'd love to see a video for this look. Thank you for sharing. You look fabulous!🦋
I 100% agree about customizing for YOUR face. It drives me nuts seeing RUclipsrs with short foreheads (like mine) putting a ton of contour and bronzer on the top of their face because that’s what everyone else does. No babe, that’s not for you! You’re just making your forehead shorter! What’s interesting here is that not only does the “wrong” side bring attention to your smile line, it also makes your eye on that side look droopy. Which I’ve NEVER thought about your eyes before EVER. It’s amazing that such a small change can make such a big difference. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and explaining it so well Alex!
I held my hand over each side to see the difference more on you and it was amazing. The higher up emphasizes your eyes more, too. I'm going to force myself not to go so low and see what happens. I'm over 60 so there's no need to emphasize those frown lines more. Thanks.
I have dark, sunken under eyes and the high blush placement has been an absolute win for me. I can get away with a lot more blush while still looking glam and it doesn’t enhance my under eyes.
Could you tell me where does come your lipstick pleaaase ??? 😍 Love your videos ! Love the way you explain everything, love your voice, kind of love you entirely actually 😅
This video made me realize your face shape is very similar to mine!! Gonna check out how you contour now as I've never figured out natural looking contour before. Thank you as always for your insights and for giving us tools to figure out what works for us, rather than prescribe one "correct" look/technique!
Alex, you're so beautiful! Can you talk about different face shapes and also what colors to use for different skin tones? And throw some blush highlighter ideas in there too?
OMG. THANK YOU FOR THE SIDE BY SIDE AND REMINDER. YES CAPS IS APPROPRIATE. I NEEDED THIS!!!! I was noticing something g was off lately and getting frustrated. I think I switched when I saw a video stating that the high blush method didn't operate the same on us middle age folks.
The side by side matte vs cream would be great. I would love to see a video about powder, although I know you use very minimal powder Alex! But I get overwhelmed with when, where and why different powders should be used. Loose powder, setting powder, finishing powder, pressed powder, translucent powder, colored powder, so many freakin powders! 😳😳😳 I’ve even seen people using powder foundation to set their under eyes. It’s too much! I’m confused 😂😂😂
sparklestarkle: A professional makeup artist will use both on the same face. To keep oily areas from looking sweaty and to tame them. To reflect light where the cream is. When in doubt, less is more. The cosmetic industry wants you to spend money. Look up "makeup artist" and search their videos.
Lol, I get it but it shouldn't be. Pressed powder can work well to set. I don't do loose powder because I know I won't use it up and it can be messy. 😂 I use a pressed powder lighter than my skin tone to set my under eyes and one that's close to my skin tone (maybe a bit darker) to set/slightly bronze my face. You really don't have to use all type of powders. Know what's best for you and your skin type.
@@sparklestarkle If you're older, cream is ideal in general. If you're younger and oily, powder is great. If you're in between, then use powder on oily areas and powder in others. You have to experiment and figure out what works for you.
This is literally the greatest placement. I have ever done it for my blush. And it came just in time for family photos today! if you have a oval to long face shape try blush on just under the eyes and across nose bridge. (dont bring it towards the temples or the apples of cheeks) looks great!
omg this is the professional explanation i've been looking for 😭 as i've matured i've really grown into my high cheekbones, flat cheeks+jaw. it made me so sad because i've naturally always preferred the cute over cool look. i've placed my blush in the middle for years and recently just noticed how tired and aged i look even with the most charming pink colour. when you turned your face to the side I SAW IT!!! my face shape!!!!! 😭 this was just so helpful and made so much sense and the blush draping on the temples thing which always seemed like a weird avant guardy thing to do just now makes sense!!! amazing!!!! and that tip with the lighter blush omg. can't wait to try this tomorrow morning and grow to love my face shape
actually, the right side of your face ( the lower-placement side ) added lots more fullness to your cheek which you seem to said you seem to be lacking. since you already have high cheekbones, the higher placement tends to pull your face back ( not in so much a flattering way ) and make you look similarly to a bird with small, pulled back features, and a large nose which seems to be the big focus when you put blush higher up. i would say definitely retry blush like on your right side, i personally think it looks super flattering on you. i put my blush higher up on my face because i have very big apples of my cheeks and having a round face means i need to pull back the sides of my face to make them look narrower. you have a much more angular face shape which can be enhanced by adding fullness to the center of the face.
Alex, what are you wearing on the lips? Looks gorgeous! Good point reg the placement of the blush. I have tried bring it under my eyes, but at least for me it s not looking good :)
You're blush tip from that previous video changed the game for me and ever since I've been keeping it high. I am 37 with a slim face so putting blush on the apples of my cheek looks super pretend and draws the eyes down to my only wrinkles😂! Best skin makeup tip ever 😊
This is EXACTLY how I apply my blush! From the apples of my cheek up to the temples! Besides eye makeup, I'd say blush is prob my favorite product to apply because I can literally watch it turn me from tired and blah looking to bright and youthful in a matter of seconds! The other day when you uploaded your video with the About-face lilac blush was EVERYTHING! Blush is a VERY powerful product. When used incorrectly, it can be horrifying, but when used correctly, it's what will pull your entire base together! ❤
I have the same cheek structure and this has been my favourite blusher technique for the past 2 years I couldn't explain why I liked it more I just knew it looked better and made me glow
Video rec idea: eye looks that would go with this style of blush application. Would one still do a smudged lower lash line? Or like what’s the best blush options for smudgey grungy eyes?
This was a great tip! As someone who shares the similar kind of face shape I found this extremely helpful. You should do the half dewy/half matte face but make it snatchural lol. I would love to see how you would sculpt the eyes using creams/ dewy formulas because I need this information.
These comparisons are always so good, it’s super helpful actually seeing the difference! I’d love a video on how to best apply makeup to dry skin. The skin on my nose and forehead in particular is always so dry that makeup doesn’t seem to sit right (it gathers in cracks and looks flaky), so I avoid the areas entirely. I used to take meds that dried out my skin and it’s never gone back to normal even though I moisturise regularly.
I sometimes have that too and I put oil on top of my makeup, like a face oil. I dab some on my fingertips or a sponge if I’m willing to clean it afterwards and then blend my makeup. It’ll take some foundation off but by using as little as possible and building it up you’ll hopefully get a happy compromise.
Hey Alex, could you do a video on what eyeshadows make certain eye colours pop? Or the combination of shadows that bring out the green in your eyes specifically? I'd love to see that :)
The cute blush placement works for your face. It makes you look lively and happy. Whereas the apples of your cheek blush placement makes you look tired.
For everybody struggling with blush and contour, take selfies and compare! Place it up high, low, midcheek, experiment with colors and compare the pictures and find what suits YOU best.

"Not cute" got it! I am an older gal, and I have been placing my blush incorrectly, thanks so much for the heads up, much appreciated 💖
It’ll take some foundation off but by using as little as possible and building it up you’ll hopefully get a happy compromise.
carnivore diet = instant unbelievably amazing dewy skin
@@stormofconquest Thats interesting! Is there any particular brand of product that you find works best?
@@Nicky797 I got a dupe of the Sunday Riley ceo glow from Walmart and have been using that but I’m not loyal. Just try anything that’s lightweight.
I’m obsessed with your lipstick but it’s not in the notes :( It looks so good on you.
Brilliant!!!! I just tried it.....wow....always blushing this way from now on.
Love the idea of side by side matte vs creamy/hydrated/dewy.
I love the faces Alex makes all the time. I do the exact same things. Makes her feel even more relatable.
Can you find out what toners are used to achieve your blonde hair? This color is EXACLY what I’m looking for!😊
