My new favourite is the Scheps OmniChannel , I love it. You said "only" 19 tracks ha! My songs have just 2. Sometimes 3 (harmonica) and I still find it hard.
I love the UAD 1176 Rev A. It's my favorite 1176 compressors since it features the rawness and pleasing noise I personally associate with this device. My most used, the ones that are on every mix, are more technical ones, the Klanghelm VUMT Deluxe for metering and the Plugin Alliance ADPTR AUDIO Metric AB for easily comparing my mix to my reference tracks. I guess that makes them to some of my favorites as well, although they don't make any sound.
In 2008 the price we had to pay to study audio engineering was insane. The school I went to was amazing and had great teachers, but overall, there’s only so much they can teach within a schedule. Back then, there weren’t too many videos available for learning audio, let alone about specific things. 2024, the free content alone would’ve costs hundreds if not thousands of dollars or euros. We live in an amazing time. There’s finally no excuse to not learn and it’s thanks to people like you, that uploaded constantly and made it a way to help all of us out there while also making money with ads or sponsors. Thank you so much for this amazing content
I know the focus is mixing with Waves CLA Plugins, but this is such a great reference video. Like others you have done, it really shows how to tackle a mix with the emphasis of a good mix being on balance and really knowing how to utilize EQ and compression properly. It's no secret that in the past few years mixes have been drastically improving from home studio musicians/producers, and I truly believe a lot of it can be attributed to your channel and the influence it has had on other top level engineers to share information about their gear and recording and mixing techniques. For a long time that stuff was hush hush, cheers for what you do Warren, it's a huge service! I'm looking forward to when you can do studio tours again!
Yes, produce like a pro and Pensado's place have both put the information out there without holding anything back. Then you have the new school guys that have came around like Mixbus TV and White Sea Studios channels. It makes me wish I would have started a channel and focused more on putting myself out there which has always been my struggle. I'm no good at self promotion and these days that's looked at as a mandatory skill just about. I'm a Reaper fan boy, and Kenny Goia at Realer Mania is so on top of it and has filled in gapsI didn't even know I had. God bless them for that.
36:00 Something I found that works well for really pokey guitars like that is to do a massive cut at 3k, like turn the knob all the way down, and then balance the level with the other instruments. After that you can just bring up the 3k knob until it starts to poke through.
@@SufferahsmusicHD To expand on my previous comment. I grew up with vinyl and tape. To learn methods of recording was to either buy books or go to the library to research. thank you for this show, I have all of Chris plugins from waves,,and they are great ,thank you waves, Chris ,and you ,for getting in more depth ,you are right what a great time for tracking, mixing ,and mastering,, I only wish I was a teen ager now, starting out, with the tools the youth has today ,wow and it will keep getting better, I can't imagine 10 years from now , all the best
What an amazing video! I love how you took these raw tracks and brought life into them using just these plugins. Another great example of how it’s not the gear but the ears. Phenomenal job and thanks for being so thorough.
I'm a retired film rerecording mixer . Many of these plugins I am not familiar with since it's been a few years since I've touched the faders on my Neve . But for me , my number one is the Waves R compressor - excellent for movie dialog . Effective and transparent . Thanks for your video !
CLA Epic really is one hell of a plug-in. It sounds like it’s too much at first, but when you blend the send levels in properly, that’s one hell of a vocal effect. The free Echosphere is just as good too!
@@Producelikeapro I kept hearing this resonance ring on the drums at approximately 500 hz and was wondering was that coming from the plate reverb emulation or the drums ?
I have had this plugin for quite awhile now...and never really used it. I came across this well explained and in depth tutorial here about the usage of it, as well as a great mixing tutorial on your part. After viewing this video I went and used the Mixhub on a few pieces I had previously done. I could complain about the fact that there is no solo button and the panning is not available in the Bucket window, you have to dedicate more time to set up your mix, and lastly; you still have to work between the plugin and your DAW mixer for many various reasons. There might be a couple of other things... however, that said.....the sound quality and console emulation was very good. I found that once established and I got the hang of it, mixing within its environment was very gratifying. The mix worked out well with great sonic results. Like many people, I do have a multitude of great plugins from many manufactures that deliver incredible results with audio ...choices and more choices. In the end, all I care about is the end product..no matter how you get there. In my opinion, I think this is one of those plugins that can help you get there. Thanx Warren....
I loved how the MixDown on the master bus made everything so smooth when you were playing with the "glue" fader ! I understand of course that the overall mix had a lot to do with it but still.. It made a nice calmness to it. Great job Warren ! Thanks for this, it's really helpful. Btw i liked this mix way better than the analog one.
Thousands of albums played by thousands of different artists, played in thousands of different studio, using thousands of different instruments. Some sounds I hear and either love or don't like sometimes. I've listened to Radiohead ( or any other band ) and said I don't like the guitar tone on this song or snare drum for example. The song is still great and it is still glued together in a cohesive manner and all the sounds can be heard and picked out to some degree. You can't say it's the player or the studio or the instrument or the gear. All that can be said is all the engineers who have mixed all these hundreds of thousands of songs are doing something similar in the mix and or maybe it's all about mastering. I can mix a song. I can get a lot of clarity and get 90 % of the way there. The last 10 % is the hard climb and trying to get that song to just finally lock is what is driving most of us crazy. And although I've asked this question to a lot of engineers they can't seem to put their finger on it or deliver a clear answer. Maybe there is no answer. Maybe this question sparks your interest as well. How about a video where you ask this question to the number of engineers you know and your take on it as well. Sorry ( Not sorry ) for the long rant.
I love watching your approach to mixing Warren. It just goes to show that mixing is less about reinventing the wheel, than it is about utilizing such basic tools as level, panning, and EQ. You have an intellectual and academic yet never condescending or esoteric style that makes you a joy to learn from. We all appreciate everything you do so much. And might I add, I was hesitant about getting the many of the CLA plugins for so long because they’re so *easy* and straight forward, it almost felt like cheating 😂 well, I’m so glad I finally caved and got a few of the plugins. CLA Vocals, Mixdown, Guitars and Echosphere have all become tools I use everyday because they’re so damn good. They have so much musicality, and I’m blown away by the wide variety of genres to which they can applied. CLA Vocals, for example, would sound just as good on one of my Hip Hop clients as a Country & Western client. Fabulous products.
Just as I started writing this comment, you made the same point that it’s great being able to solo the eq. I wish all channel strip and eq plugins had that feature. Almost worth getting the plugin alone

The mix sounds good and much better than the earlier mix. My comments would be slightly less crash, slightly more piano, and the lead guitar sound needs a bit more TLC. Hi Warren, does the mixhub come close to making it sound like it's running through a console?
Yes, I didn't do a 'direct' comparison, however I loved the MIXHUB!
What? No disortion on the bass?
Haha not this time! Got to mix it up! Literally!
I bought a CLA Mix Hub today.

Amazing channel and very nice video. Thanks a lot.

You are such a great inspiration Warren. But I couldn’t stop hearing ‘rack tom’ as something pronounced very similar.. PS Excuse me for my lack of humor.
Haha thanks Chris for the laugh!
I like a lot this song! Who is the band? If my ears don't fault, you've used another song from them in one of your videos? Am I right?
Yes! Correct Valerio! It's 'Me and The City', Thanks ever so much
Can this song be included in the Academy? *wink wink* *nudge nudge* *hint hint* 😁 OH and the multitracks aren't listed in the description just to let you know.
