Great video. I had an identical '68 Nova SS 350 back in the '70's with the same color and black interior. I also had to replace the clutch and pressure plate and I threw that piece of junk Muncie shifter in the garbage where it belonged and replaced it with a Hurst Competition Plus shifter. What a difference! I never lost a race with that car. It was a rocket! Thanks for sharing your amazing story about the Nova SS. It brings back a lot of good memories. I love it.

I bought 1968 Nova 350 city 300 HP in 1969 used with 28,000 MI for 1800 Dollars and what I see from your Video by looking at the super sport name above the rocker molding I guarantee that is SS car and a 68. I did a lot of racing up an down Woodward Ave and Telegraph near Detroit. Used to change the Clutch in mine all the time in my Folks driveway, because my Girlfriend riding the clutch and me Power Shifting and side stepping the clutch. The Most fun I ever had with a car. Good Luck with the NOVA. 59yrs later I still miss mine.

Very, very nice car. That car is extremely valuable if it's current condition is original vs restored. I'd liked to have seen the STAMPED ON letters and numbers running up the rear passenger side transmission case. I have an original m20 from a 1968 camaro that's all original but does have some miles on it. It was pulled out decades ago and stored in a warehouse on a shelf until I bought it with shifter and linkage last summer. As usual with a used muncie it shows some wear on the 2nd and 3rd alignment teeth. Was told it shifted fine by the original owner but from watching (the muncie tapes) 1,2,3 and 4 I sure would like to do all the upgrades. Awesome car. It's like gold, it'll only climb in value.

Thank you! It is unrestored, and mostly Original, except for the Engine and Transmission. I had thought at one time the trans was original, but after running numbers, it has a later rear case and I think a 1969 main section. That is ok though, I love the car and agree it is in awesome condition for being unrestored. Good Luck with your 4 speed

Unfortunately this was an original Small Block SS car. We actually had a lead on the OG motor, but that has since gone cold. We do have plans for it however, and are going to build it similar to a FAST (Factory Appearing Stock Tire) car. We'll see how it goes.

Just check the Vin number and see if it's a real SS..

    • @RacerXGarage
      @RacerXGarage  2 года назад

You can't verify SS on a 68-71 Nova by the VIN. Only in 72 did they put a "K" in the vin to designate Super Sport.

Hi SuperDave! I consider myself to be pretty well educated on 68 Nova’s. I’ve done extensive research and have consulted with other owners who own documented cars. I really should not take the bait to debate with you, but I have, so here is what I know.
First, this car was a console car. The console was taken out when the hurst super shifter was installed because it required modification of the trans tunnel. The gauge harness is still in place, in-fact the gauges that are hanging under the dash were actually wired carefully off of the Plug. The front bracket is also there and in place under the carpet. I was told by the seller that in the shop something fell onto the console and obliterated it. We asked if they still had it anyway, but was informed that it was thrown away after.
HOWEVER, you could order a SS package on this car with multiple different options. You could order a column shift, bench seat car with the SS package, either big block or small block. So just because it did or did not come with a console does not make or break it as an SS car.
Secondly, yes the trim piece under the grill was painted black. It has 2 cracks, one on each side, so I assume a repair was made and then the piece was painted.
Other supporting options that support what I will admit is my “claim” (because No I do not have the build sheet for this car)
      - 3/8 factory fuel line
      - SS Hood, with correct indentions for the rear innermost stud for the hood trim
      - Hood insulation is still in place (a friend of mine with a well-documented car wants to buy the insulation from me if I were to ever sell it)
      - Factory date correct 12 bolt rear end
      - All trim fastener holes were punched not drilled
      - Dash cover is original, with the original SS badge
      - Door Panels are Original with the SS Badge
      - Lower SS trim is original
      - Steering wheel and horn button are original
      - Factory Dual exhaust hangers are still in place on the car
      - It does have a factory in dash tach, but that could be ordered on any trim level
      - I have the original optional factory 4 piston disc brakes that came on the car ($100 option) which were known for locking up and often replaced with the single piston style, which my car has now.
I have been told my several Nova enthusiasts that if this car is not a real SS, it’s the best clone that ever existed.
What I will give you, is until 1972 you cannot prove a 68-71 Nova was a real SS car without a couple things. The biggest verifier would be the Factory Build sheet, which I unfortunately do not have. You can however prove in 1968 that a Nova was an SS 350 car by the stamping of the vin on the block with the correct suffix code. You could only get a 350cu in motor in an SS package in 68, otherwise it was 327 or 307 small blocks. We may know where the original block is, and if we can locate it, it will prove the cars pedigree.
Now, I have nothing to gain by claiming it is a real SS car. I am not selling the car, no do I ever intend to. If you saw the car in person perhaps you would have a different opinion, or maybe not. Either way, no matter the motivation for your posting, I believe I have enough information to claim it is a real SS car. But the bad thing is after I typed out all this, is I should have just responded with “Who Cares”.
I’m glad we were able to save this car and bring it back to life being an SS or not. I would have bought and kept this car if it were an SS package or base model. There is a great saying out there that, “It is the cars that bring us together”, it should not be the opposite. So if you read my long winded post, and you still disagree well that is totally ok. I hope you are working on a similar project that makes you happy and helps relieve some of the stresses that we face day to day, and in this current climate. I love cars and would be happy to check yours out if you want to share, you can reach me at info@racerxgarage.com , send me some pics and some specs! Have a great weekend Dave!

@@RacerXGarage Hi Dave - I read your whole response and learned a couple of things about what I "believe" was my true '68 Nova SS from when I was back in high school. Sure wish I still had it so I could confirm its pedigree. Who knew it would become a rare piece of muscle car history. Thanks again for sharing your impressive knowledge.

Not quite sure what you're getting at, these Nova's only have a front subframe. The rest of the car is unibody, but perhaps I said something that may have been incorrect.

@@RacerXGarage yes right all I'm saying is that on cars how much frame there is it's all ways going to be a box frame meaning take too c channel turn them twords each other weld them and you make a box you find a C channel frame on a medium to heavy duty truck
