  • A shark was spotted swimming within 10 feet off shore near Race Point Beach in Provincetown on Labor Day on Aug. 7, 2020. The shark season on Cape Cod this summer has a busy one, with great white sharks seen regularly off shore near Orleans, Plymouth, Provincetown, Truro, Wellfleet and elsewhere. Exactly. Or people swimming and a cut in the water, or blood..they can smell one small drop of blood for MILES..those people on boat could have chum or bait they smell and came close. Humans destroy everything we touch sadly

    • @philipbohi983
      @philipbohi983 4 года назад +3

      You’re both incorrect. This is typical GWS near-shore hunting behavior, where they look for marine mammals and stingrays and skates. And miss jamey, you’re right that they CAN detect blood but small amounts are meaningless - see Mark Rober’s channel for some experiments. I can also personally attest to this from over 30 years of diving, spearfishing, and surfing. The only shark I’ve ever seen get excited about human blood was an Oceanic Whitetip. It’s not blood that brings them in...it’s either tiny electrical impulses they detect using their Ampullae of Lorenzini or mere curiousity.
      And to your last statement....humans ARE destructive, BUT...you are SO WRONG about the Great Whites...the reason they are so common now is because of the incredible success of conservation efforts. In the North Atlantic, there are DOZENS of resident GWS because of laws that protect them and their food sources like seals and sea lions.
      Educate yourselves folks.
      There was a recent article in Nat Geo (July 2020) directly addressing the GWS population in New England, plus plenty of other good articles about the population growth we had in SoCal. I know two GWS by name (very distinct markings): Charlie and Ophelia, a couple of sharks who grew up around Huntington Beach where I lived. And yes, they terrify me no matter how much I’m enthralled by them.
