I fit Grip Puppies to all my bikes, and have used them for years. Due to arthritis in both hands, I cannot maintain a firm grip on normal bars, but these grips make all the difference! They also do all the vibe damping stuff as well. I wouldn't be without them! Also, if you sell your bike, they can be removed, using WD40 squirted inside, and then fitted to your new bike. Top bits of kit!
@@siddarthgrewal Believe me, I've tried every trick in the book! My current bike is a Honda fitted with DCT, and this adds considerably to the length of time I am able to ride!

So, thanks for that too!
Just put these on my triumph scrambler, used hot water with couple drops of fairy liquid, throttle grip isn't glued on so that side was very difficult to put on. Left side slid on easy. So far so good, feels better for my achey fingers.

I fitted these grips today over my Oxford Heated Grips on my CBF600 . I love the softness but I have found the girth is a little big . My Mrs thinks the girth could do with improvement , I'm not sure what she is on about as she only ever rides pillion .
Just bought them, stumbled on this video looking for reviews, thanks! Must feel good to make a video that's still useful and being viewed 6 years later.
I installed these this morning. That was a workout. I found the best way was to stand on the other side of the motorcycle so I could pull rather than push. Also, gloves with little rubber nubs helped.
Oh I've been wondering about these grips for a while but was concerned about the affect they'd have on the heated grips so thanks very much for answering that TMF 👍🏻
...well from trying them on a hot day the grip puppies seem to make little difference to the heat I felt transferred through to the gloves....but they were my Summer gloves - I'll find out for sure in Winter - just around the corner eh? :0(
I found the grip puppies much easier to install with the bar end in place. The rounded edge on the bar ends helps quite a bit and the lip on the grips doesn't get in the way, too.
Personally speaking as a Northerner educated in Scotland, i much prefer using lard instead of liquid soap, that way when i turn the heated grips on i get the constant smell of fried food in my nostrils..... !
So I've just attached mine to the throttle, which has a heated grip on the bar, and the grip has loosened somewhat! What do you recommend? The heated grip now has a little bit of play on it 🙈
Another really useful video. So much better to see an 'ordinary punter' doing these jobs rather than the vendors who make it all look so easy. Gonna buy them now for my S1000XR, it's grips are way too thin !
I've used them for about 3 months toured Scotland in the rain and they were very good heated grips kept them dry anyway 😆 I don't leave home without them now lol
Excellent news! I did the think the heated grips might also double up as grip puppy dryers.....good stuff. Good to hear from you again, it's been a while! All the best - TMF
I need these because my aging rubber grips have gone shiny and sticky. Some days my gloves slide around over them and I can't grip without holding tight, and other days they feel tacky and reaching for the brake and clutch is problematic. NOTE: DO NOT buy ones specific you your bike. They are all the same size if you read the description. They are selling some as BMW because they know people will pay an arm and a leg extra, thinking it is tailored to their bike. They only come in one size!
Very useful video all these years later. Test rode a Ninja 1000 sx the other day and found it a bit vibey, probably because I was hanging on for dear life.
... Hi TMF, great review as always! It's been now almost a month that I started using them on my 2009 GS. They completely transformed the bike! Much better throttle control and the bike feels as smooth as an inline 4! Highly recommend them, especially to GS owners...
I fitted these to my GS. And they worked great for a year, then when they got wet they started to twist around. they are a great idea and very comfortable.
Bought a pair of Grip Buddies via Nippy Normans. Slightly different way of attachment and material but a good piece of kit for my 1200RS to stop the pins and needles in my right hand.
Yes those RS's do have a reputation for being a bit vibey....I noticed the same when I rode one a few months ago.....in which case these foam grips a perfect I would think.....
I've got them. The trick to getting the on easily, is to roll them up into a ring. Place the ring on the end and then unroll. Something I learned after a few applications of them.
TheMissendenFlyer A while... a while! What do you mean? I think you probably get more of my time than most on here. I won't test you on how many of my videos you've watched... :-)
...well it must be a month or so??? ...and I did watch your advanced biker coaching day video (I think)....will go back and run through your catalogue now :0)

I have terrible issues with riding my GSA and my hand going numb, specifically my right hand due to carpal tunnel. hopefully these help my situation or I will be trading the bike for something smoother like the K1600. I have these grip puppies in hand, and will be installing them today.
Hi there, top tip for you viewers. L'Oréal Studio Pro, Lock It, fixing hair spray, ultra strong hair spray. I saw I guy on RUclips using this product when like me he need to fit new handle bar grips to his 1150 GS Adventure like mine with heated grips. This is not an easy job because if you are not very careful when removing, it is very easy to cut through the very fine copper strands then it's 'Hasta La Vista' heated grips. The rubber grips are glued on in the factory. This next part is a true story. I dispatched my wife to Superdrug to buy the product. When my wife went to pay at the counter the assistant said "ah, you must be an artist (who use this over the top of paintings) or you need to put new grips on your motorbike". At that point my wife's jaw dropped in disbelief.!!!!!!! Anyway, spray a small amount on the bars and in the new rubbers, slide on a leave overnight, job done. Regards. Joe
Joe McIntyre, the hair spray was actually suggested on the instructions. I was worried that it will make the job of fitting them harder and messier though. As they are, without the hairspray, they where very difficult to install and do not budge once in. Mind, I did not use soapy water, so I guess that might have made things easier for me.
I have an NC750S and compared to my last bike the throttle has more resistance to it and I get discomfort on even short rides. Not sure if the hardness and smoothness of the stock grip is also adding to this. I am wondering if grip puppies will help or maybe crampbuster or even both. Your advise would be most welcome.
I have now rode my bike over a thousand kilometers using grip puppies and must say that they give you more leverage so the tension feels less, much less.
Hello, I want to put on my Yamaha Tracer, and my grips are 3,2cm(1.26") and my handlebar 2,2cm (0,87"). Do I take the standard or the "big paw" ? Not very clear for me. Thanks for the vid and your reply, cheers from France.
I’ve just fitted these on my MT09. Not that the bike vibrates, it’s really smooth actually, but even though the standard grips are the normal thickness, for some reason they weren’t feeling comfortable at all on longer trips. So I thought I’d give these a go. Fill give them a test tomorrow and see how they fare. A question about winter, do they absorb the rain water?
My Oxford heated grips have a flange (teehee) on the right grip. I had a heck of a time just getting the puppy over the flat left hand grip. I don't have an air compressor. Any suggestions? Right now I'm contemplating getting out my Dremel tool... ;-)
+Jon Tiley Hi Jon, great in winter and water retention hasn't been an issue, they seem to dry out pretty quickly...don't forget to use my link below if you do buy ;0) cheers - TMF
Hi, I felt the original handlebars were too thin so I fitted these grip pupppies. Now I got the feeling they are a bit too thick actually. Do they shrink a bit from usage?
I have a pair on my bike that do look thinner than the ones in this video. They are rounded at one end and I believe they are genuine Grip Puppies (the bike was used and the grips were already installed when I bought it). Rain riding seems to shrink them up a bit, but the two times I was caught out were very heavy rains. Getting a new pair as the slide pad on my glove cut up the end of the left one pretty badly, hoping the new ones are more resistant.
Bill Reitz, that’s a thought. Sometimes the simplest things don’t come to mind. I’ve got a pair of grip puppies just installed. I’ll just do that and see. Be back with the results...
nice video. the bars of my old 1100 GS were much thicker than the 1200 GS bars are... but i like the thin ones... let us know how they feel in the rain! cheers Tom
Brilliant job / will do the same 2 questions: - where can i get the customs earplug you got in another video here in the US? - i notice you have the LED signal / do you need reprogramming? I would have been interested in seeing LED signal install on your WC. Cheers mate Olivier
Err re Q1 - Don't know, you possibly can't, best drop Richard a line via his website...he's very responsive. Q2 - The LED lights are standard on the GS here....you saying they're not in the US???? Thanks for stopping by - all the best - TMF
mr miss, I've had these on my beemer for ages, brilliant kit if expensive for a bit of foam! for info in the rain there are no problems, no swelling or slippage that I've noticed. how about making a video showing how to install auxiliary lights, especially how to wire the can bus system for them? keep up the good work, ron
Two things really....did they get soggy when it rained and do they help at all with wrist ache?.....I have a triumph sprint st 955i and I get really bad wrist ache after a few miles you see..
+ian1patterson Hi Ian, I have ridden a lot in the rain with these now and no issue on sogginess - they do of course get wet but they seem to dry out quickly rather than retain any moisture. Can't comment on wrist ache I'm afraid as I don't suffer from it...maybe you're exercising them too much?? ;0)
They are made of closed cell foam so they don't really absorb water, the outer surface to a depth of probably 1/2 of a mm gets wet put they dry out very quick and it's nothing like riding with wet sponges. I find them really comfortable and my hands tend to stay a bit more relaxed due to the increased diameter. PS if we didn't have a dishwasher I'd definitely be allergic to washing-up liquid too, lol. Seriously I only need to walk down the detergent aisle in a supermarket and I start to sneeze and it irritates my eyes too, guess i"m a wimp. cheers tony
Hi Tony - good to hear from you again and glad to hear you get on well with the grip puppies even in the rain. It did occur to me that the heated grips will probably dry them out quite nicely if they do get wet.....on the detergent/allergy front it so happens I'm allergic to dishwasher tablets too!! (true!!)
Some of us fellas are even allergic to vacuum cleaners too, funny though it doesn't seem to bother me when I need to vacuum my garage, workshop and car etc, lol.
I was going to buy these for my Monster 821 which vibrates as you know, will this reduce the vibration, because between the rides my bike causes my right hand to get tingling sensation, will this help? thank you sir
Thanks for another top tip! I'll definitely give those a try. Could you tell me what tool kit you bought to use with your GS? The one you use to remove the Torx screws from the handlebar ends looks nice and neat...
I can't honestly remember who makes that kit - I seem to recall it was a French sounding name and I bought it in Costco....will check it out next time I'm in the garage! Thanks for watching - TMF
Hey, at the end when you're test riding these, you're riding on the wrong side of the road. I guess it's safe, since oncoming traffic is on the wrong side as well.
Great video! Nice bike, would you recommend it for everyday/city commuting, or perhaps a smaller bike like the f800gs is better suited for the purpose. cheers!
+Yannis Zographopoulos Yes I would, I would recommend the GS for anything, to my mind it is the ultimate all rounder...check out my reviews of the bike for full details!
Hello mate, I have bought some of these for my GSA and the Mrs R1200 Sport. Do you happen to know what size the star or Torx bolt is on the handlebars? Going to have to buy a set and want to make sure I get one with the right size. Cheers!
Nice video! I was searching for something like this! My hand grips after 20000km in 9 months are really consumed. Practically smooth as silk.... And i think the original are to "slim". Thx!
Excellent and to the point...those who are in a tizzy over your comment of "like something nice and thick in me right hand"; they have been in the closet too long... LOL Steering wheels are nice and thick on German sport cars also and hands around thick steering or handlebars really helps feeling that much more in control.
I just stumbled across this vid , ive fitted these to both of my bikes yzf an fz6 and my heated grips still work , persanaly use stong hold hair spray to help lube and slide on and help stick , i did wonder how u look with a bit of hair 😂 fab video 🏍💨
I always had foam grips on my bikes in the 1980s and didn't have any problems with the rain. You should have added a warning at the beginning of the video as I was having my breakfast at the time! 😣
Long time sub occasional commenter :D Thanks for this vid! Just about to fit some to my CB500X - Found that i'm holding the throttle grip way to tight as it's quite thin. First bike I haven't fitted Oxford Hot grips to to without that extra girth I'm been struggling. Are they still on the old girl?
Hey TMF, obviously watched your 5 christmas gift ideas for the biker and i put a pair of grip puppies on my list 😉👍, anyway i was wondering what they're like in the wet, like if you get cought out by a rain shower, riding in prolonged rain or if it stsrts raining and your bike is stood outside, do they act like a sponge and become saturated, and have you ever noticed they've spun on your grips?? Cheers!!
I bought a pair of these after seeing your video a few months ago. The heavy clutch on my 2016 Scrambler was making my hand sore. I looked for alternative grips that might have a bit more give than the stock items, but didn't find anything I thought worth trying, until I saw this video. Easy to fit, as you demonstrated. The extra "girth" seemed a bit much to begin with, but now I've ridden a couple of thousand miles with them, I'm happy with them. I don't get the discomfort in my clutch hand any more, and they do seem to reduce vibration too. Thanks for doing the video!
I bought these this morning , fitted looked for your review afterwards, after a bit of advice, I’m fitting hand guards to my NX500, any tips on taking the bar ends off? Some say force the clips out, others say unscrew the end screw (end piece turns with it though) any tips? Great channel 👍
Another great video! BTW, did anyone ever tell you that you look like a young Phil Collins? Please post a follow up on how the grips perform in the rain. Thanks!

Bill Reitz, that’s a thought. Sometimes the simplest things don’t come to mind. I’ve got a pair of grip puppies just installed. I’ll just do that and see. Be back with the results...
They do get a bit wet but not enough to penetrate the gloves, not squishy wet if you get what I mean, just damp. They dry off pretty quick though.
Thank you. I have good experience with using a towel to have better grip while fixing the grip puppies.
Got a set on my 600rr I'm loving them.
nice video.
the bars of my old 1100 GS were much thicker than the 1200 GS bars are... but i like the thin ones...
let us know how they feel in the rain!
cheers
Tom
Will do Tom - cheers!
The "star" bolts you refer to are called Torx or Tx for short...
Indeed they are....
Brilliant job / will do the same
2 questions:
- where can i get the customs earplug you got in another video here in the US?
- i notice you have the LED signal / do you need reprogramming? I would have been interested in seeing LED signal install on your WC.
Cheers mate
Olivier
Err re Q1 - Don't know, you possibly can't, best drop Richard a line via his website...he's very responsive. Q2 - The LED lights are standard on the GS here....you saying they're not in the US???? Thanks for stopping by - all the best - TMF
mr miss, I've had these on my beemer for ages, brilliant kit if expensive for a bit of foam! for info in the rain there are no problems, no swelling or slippage that I've noticed. how about making a video showing how to install auxiliary lights, especially how to wire the can bus system for them? keep up the good work, ron
Cheers Ron - good to know....I've no idea how the Aux lights are wired in....I got mine done at the dealer (sorry!!)...all the best - TMF
Can't comment on wrist ache I'm afraid as I don't suffer from it...maybe you're exercising them too much?? ;0)
They are made of closed cell foam so they don't really absorb water, the outer surface to a depth of probably
1/2 of a mm gets wet put they dry out very quick and it's nothing like riding with wet sponges.
I find them really comfortable and my hands tend to stay a bit more relaxed due to the increased diameter.
PS if we didn't have a dishwasher I'd definitely be allergic to washing-up liquid too, lol.
Seriously I only need to walk down the detergent aisle in a supermarket and I start to sneeze and it irritates my eyes too, guess i"m a wimp.
cheers
tony
Hi Tony - good to hear from you again and glad to hear you get on well with the grip puppies even in the rain. It did occur to me that the heated grips will probably dry them out quite nicely if they do get wet.....on the detergent/allergy front it so happens I'm allergic to dishwasher tablets too!! (true!!)
Some of us fellas are even allergic to vacuum cleaners too, funny though it doesn't seem to bother me when I need to vacuum my garage, workshop and car etc, lol.
I love it that you vacuum the garage - I thought it was only me that did that! :0)
I was going to buy these for my Monster 821 which vibrates as you know, will this reduce the vibration, because between the rides my bike causes my right hand to get tingling sensation, will this help? thank you sir
Yes absolutely these'll help...
TheMissendenFlyer Great 👍Thank you sir
Ive just bought some for my 821 - hopefully they will fix pins and needles on long ride
Hi there, did you buy the ones you linked to, or did you get the ones specifically for the BMW?
The ones in the link....and still going strong!
He is on the correct side of the road. Its right hand drive in UK.
@@JathinRao Please look up the word “sarcasm.”
Cheers!
I don't know and aren't near the bike at the moment to check....sorry!
Just for info, it is a T50 socket. All fitted!!
Nice video! I was searching for something like this! My hand grips after 20000km in 9 months are really consumed. Practically smooth as silk.... And i think the original are to "slim". Thx!
Sounds like you're gripping to hard Massimo!! Glad the video was on interest.....all the best - TMF
Excellent and to the point...those who are in a tizzy over your comment of "like something nice and thick in me right hand"; they have been in the closet too long... LOL
Steering wheels are nice and thick on German sport cars also and hands around thick steering or handlebars really helps feeling that much more in control.
I agree!
I just stumbled across this vid , ive fitted these to both of my bikes yzf an fz6 and my heated grips still work , persanaly use stong hold hair spray to help lube and slide on and help stick , i did wonder how u look with a bit of hair 😂 fab video 🏍💨
I can tell you - Gorgeous!
What's the verdict on whether or not they hold water after it's been raining etc?
Nope - seem to dry out pretty quickly...,
Hier das mit Abstand beste Video wie man diese Grips montiert. Danke für das schöne informative Video. 👍😀
This product works for me installed them today by applying small amount of Vaseline in the hole went in easily
I always had foam grips on my bikes in the 1980s and didn't have any problems with the rain. You should have added a warning at the beginning of the video as I was having my breakfast at the time! 😣
Warning about what Paul??
When you said you always like something thick in your right hand? lol.
Perfectly innocent statement Paul....maybe it's your mind at fault ?? ;0)
Likely story! 😅
Just bought my first set of Puppies today. The MF video still proving helpful! 👍
Glad it helped!
They are fine in wet weather and dry out well but do soak up water which can be a nuisance with leather gloves. No issue with textile gloves.
Yes as I suspected...will see how it goes (and keep trying to avoid the rain!)
No I took them off relatively recently - I have another set though ready to go on!
@@TheMissendenFlyer aha well that's good news!!
Cheers!!
Nope they don't get too saturated and dry out quickly - never had mine rotate on me - full marks all round!
Glad you found them of use - mine are still going strong!
Thanks , very informative.
Watch your speed on those lanes .
These grips made my 2009 Versys 650 rideable. Without them, my hands would go numb in about 5 minutes due to the intense vibrations.
Does it effect the heated grips
Nope....
What size torx/hex did you use for the handle bar bar ends?
No idea...
@@TheMissendenFlyer T50
Another view years later! Thanks buddy 👍
No problem 👍
I bought these this morning , fitted looked for your review afterwards, after a bit of advice, I’m fitting hand guards to my NX500, any tips on taking the bar ends off? Some say force the clips out, others say unscrew the end screw (end piece turns with it though) any tips? Great channel 👍
Just bought a set for the big GSA based on this review. Great work as always TMF
Are you still using grip puppies?
Yes
Are you still using them? Long term thoughts?
Yep sure are - same set - still work great....a must on a bike used for long distance!
Thanks! I used Silicone spray inside the grip and outside on handle it was easy to put it on! Blessings from Sweden
Always make sure to generously lube the hole and get a good grip of those puppies! 😎
Sound advice George!
ah that one liner! pmsl...just about to fit mine now. Thanks for the vid Andy
Just ordered. Thanks for the review.
Would you fit them to the Street Triple?
Yes I might do...more likely to fit heated grip first though (and they tend to give you a thicker grip)....
Another great video! BTW, did anyone ever tell you that you look like a young Phil Collins? Please post a follow up on how the grips perform in the rain. Thanks!
...oh crikey no, Take Me Home! ...and will do... :0)
where did you get them from and how much are they
Yeah I should have mentioned that - I ordered on Amazon Prime Saturday morning and had them by Saturday evening, how amazing is that!! ...and they were a (very reasonable) £13.99
thanks for the quick reply
How are you finding them after 3 years on the GS?
Still going strong, still on that original set!
@@TheMissendenFlyer How have they done in the rain? Do they act like a sponge and become saturated?
Did they sponge up in rain ?
Actually no - never had an issue with them getting saturated....
@@TheMissendenFlyer very dumb question I asked, they're from Britain.
Do you think they would fir my street Tripple r
Definitely...in fact was thinking about getting a set for mine....
