“gag me with a spoon” being listed as teen slang is hilarious to me cause not only have i never heard a young person say that, its also just such an aggressively southern thing to say.
It's neither southern nor real. The original valley girl accent of the LA area was a real thing that started in the 70s and became well known in the 80s. An established rock musician named Frank Zappa (known for counterculture and experimental music) composed the song Valley Girl (his biggest hit ever), which was a satire of the vapid culture of upper-middle class and wealthy young women in southern california. He got his young daughter to pretend to talk like a valley girl for the track. She admitted she didn't actually know much about how valley girls spoke, so it was just over the top stereotype stuff that she said. Including mixing in some surfer terminology like 'tubular' that had nothing to do with valley girls at the time. So phrases like 'gag me with a spoon' and 'grody to the max' became famous from this song. And the rest of the country thought that that's what 'valspeak' really sounded like. The accent never died and the habit of saying 'like' way too much did spread because of it. You can blame people such as Paris Hilton and the Kardashians who continue passing the torch.
@@notimportant2508 Yes, my dad was a wannabe musician and would watch any music documentary that came on tv in the 90s. I remembered it mostly because Frank Zappa's daughter is named Moon Unit Zappa. Moon Unit... and she said she did the song to spend time with her dad (who I assume was usually on tour). So I thought her dad must suck as much as mine.
who in gods name thought it would be a good idea to put Travis an Aabria again together after Calamity? XD theyre already shown to be actual menaces together XD
The look Matt gives them 💀 It’s very rare we get to see Travis’s ‘oops caught’ face, he’s usually the one lassoing the others back into focus 😆😆 I hope they keep putting him and Aabria next to each other at the table in other collaborations, so we can get more compilations like this
As Aabria mentioned, it's all AAVE being appropriated by (and therefore attributed to) gen z as "their" slang, I love this show and these people but I think they missed her calling it all out, even when she mentioned like "this feels personal"
@zeea6561 Aabria directly addresses this on her tumblr on May 6 when responding to another user who misinterpreted it that way: “You are absolutely allowed to feel however you feel about it, but for whatever it’s worth I wasn’t the least bit uncomfortable. I noted that it was AAVE (as most popular slang in my lifetime has been) as a “I’m not a youth but I know how to use this vernacular correctly” moment. I promise, I would have stealth communicated to Travis to wind it down if I felt a kind of way about it or thought it was generally problematic. And just to briefly touch on why I didn’t find that to be a moment of appropriation or denigration of AAVE - the butt of the joke is never the slang. It’s always him not knowing how to land the lingo. And that’s funny, and honestly super relatable with all us peeps aging out of youth culture. Again, not to refute your feelings. I just wanted to share mine, and express appreciation for your sensitivity to the moment! End of rant! 💖”
She wasn't offended, and Travis wasn't trying to offend anyone, so all the people assuming such need to shut their fucking mouths and get their heads out of their fucking asses

Most cringe Travis has ever been. Like the joke was funny - then you just killed it after 5 more mins. Hanging out with Sam too much - let the bit run it’s course then let it go
I'm surprised Gale didn't show up when Travis said "gag me with a spoon".
Ever since Calamity, I've been waiting for Aabria-Travis laughing combo
So agree
Matt's "You kill it" is such an underrated punishment for Travis!
CEO of the company yall! lol
Gives me hope
this sounds 100% how a 400 year old would try to use teen slang... kudos Travis for some excellent method acting!
The way you can see him waiting and planning on how he's going to sprinkle in the teenage slang he's looking up is so fucking funny
I had the feeling he was checking up on Mat's non-verbal to see how far he could push it. :D

It's not southern, it's a Gale thing to say.

DID I HEAR A ROCK AND STONE!?
Oh, hello fellow miner.
I almost expected Travis to threaten to eat a tidepod.
Travis taking psychic damage each and every time is great.
Never thought I would ever hear Travis say “yassify”😂😂
Big shoutouts to well-known hip-happenin' teen Chetney Pock O' Pea

I just got yeeted always has me in tears 😂
Matt should have said you kill it in a valley girl voice would have been hilarious.
travis is a treasure
😂😂😂 Matt is so over it.😂😂😂
Matt: I will kill your character. 😅😅😅
Aabria: I'll race you.
This is how Travis will talk to his daughter if he ever has one.
From the future here how many times has Travis had his character threatened
Fun Fact: Some of those slangs are K-Pop songs
