To be fair to Marisha, my mom did something similar. Before dating my dad, she was going to marry a guy. Everything was bought and ready, but sometime before the wedding the guy got pregnant my mom’s friend so she canceled it, but kept the rings. Years later when marrying my dad they melted those rings and forged new ones for them 😅
I'm suddenly feeling very grateful that the necklace I got from a boy in elementary school (1st grade, not 2nd) was legally bought and paid for with his parents' knowledge because they thought it was cute. No, it wasn't diamond, and yes, I still have it ;) ...In 3rd grade we did experience the scandal of a girl stealing $100 out of her mom's purse to give to the boy she liked, so maybe that counts for the theft portion of the story.
