Sorry, I’m not trying to pee on your appreciation for Sammy’s role in Van Halen, they just became a different band. I came up with the original band and they were huge, when DLR Quit the band 1985/1986 became the Sammy era and Eddy wanted to play keyboard songs and Sammy went along with it and they had good radio friendly music and there’s nothing wrong with that,it’s just different and it hasn’t aged well whereas the Original lineup’s records have outsold Sammy’s time by a huge margin. Every generation needs there hero’s and if you came up during the Sammy era it’s only natural you would say that time was better because it’s what you grew up with. It’s all good, plenty of good stuff for everyone
@@basher5107 crying the same old lame river like so many others that choose to forget Sammy was the only member that changed and the band was still Van Halen. It's an insult to the memory and talent of Eddie to say that HIS band became lame after a new singer joined. People like you will never understand that tho, so, its your opinion...that's all, just your opinion. You can write 10 books and still not convince someone that disagrees with you, so let people have their own opinions.
Been a Sammy fan since mid 70's when he was with Montrose. Such a great unique sound. You can hear his influence in this song. Saw him on his own in 78 with Nugent and Golden Earring.
Ah, this takes me back to the Summer of '86. I couldn't believe DLR left VH and couldn't wait to hear what they sounded like with Hagar who just had a major hit with "I Can't Drive 55". The result was amazing... this song was the first single and our first taste of Van Hagar and it delivered big time. The rest of 5150 is very solid and you can hear the joy in their playing and songwriting. Great pick and reaction!
The Story: In 1985, Sammy Hagar’s Ferrari BB 512i was in the shop for a tune-up from his mechanic, Claudio Zampolli (who also appeared in the music video for the song “I Can’t Drive 55”). Van Halen happened to be at the shop that day and admired the Ferrari. When he asked Zampolli about the car, the mechanic said it belonged to Sammy Hagar: “That’s Sammy Hagar’s. You should call him and put him in the band.”
VAN HALEN: I SAW ALL THE TOURS WITH ROTH FROM VAN HALEN 1 IN 1978 TO 1984 AND AGAIN IN 2013! I SAW 5150, OU812, FOR UNLAWFUL CARNAL KNOWLEDGE AND BALANCE WITH HAGAR. THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER EDWARD VAN HALEN!!! RIP EDDIE
Looking forward to more Van Halen guys. This was great again. I'm no Van Halen expert, but from the Hagar period I've always loved 'Poundcake'. Such a great wall-of-guitar sound and quite heavy.
I’m a fan of the Sammy Hagar era of Van Halen. You have to remember that all of the high screams in both eras was the bassist Michael Anthony he hit all the high notes. Another tidbit was Alex started o guitar and Eddie was the drummer but thankfully they switched and the rest is history.
Alex had a very distinct snare and hi-hat sound, which told me I was hearing a VH song just as much as the guitar or vocals. "Sinner's Swing" is a great deep cut off Fair Warning that shows the band's jazz background. Superb!
Like that you said, "At the time I did not like it but now I can see the craftmanship and can appreciate it" It is the same for me, I was stuck up into some bands and now I appreciate so much more.
This is a fun uplifting song from when we all thought Van Halen was over when DLR left. IMO I think they hit it out of the park. Sammy brought some new, and positive, energy to the band. I crank this in the car when ever it comes on the radio. RIP EVH.

2 things..May 1975 I saw Sammy Hagar singing with Montrose doing Rock the Nation in Baltimore...also Beautiful Girl and Ain't Talking Bout Love are great David songs
You should have Lex listen to something from the 2nd Van Halen Cd. ' Somebody get me a Doctor ' will have her jaw drop to the floor 😁😁👍👍 Enjoyed the reaction
When Sammy joined the band Eddie experimented more with keyboards other Van Hagar songs to check out Right now,top of the wirld, pound cake, summer nights,Best of both worlds, dreams, love walks in,black and blue, finish what you started, sucker in a 3 piece all are songs you will like
Well, since you did ask... For fun, do 'Ice Cream Man' and '(Big Bad Bill) is Sweet William Now' for NicknLex. And 'Spanish Fly' and 'Cathedral' and 'Little Guitars Intro' (not the whole song) for Nick
One deeper cut from the Sammy era you’ll want to react to is the title cut from this same album: “5150”. It received little airplay, but it’s a toe-tapping great tune!
The Really Awesome Thing about How Much Sammy Hagar brought to this Band gave Eddie Van Halen a whole lot of ways to create his Music when it was finally announced and Sammy Hagar was replacing David Lee Roth I was already a Huge Sammy Hagar Fan and his Solo popularity was big and the Tour Schedule was announced The Album 5150 had not been released yet this Song was hitting radio stations and such a different sound but You still turned up all the way the very first Van Hagar concert with Sammy Hagar Singing was Shreveport La. Give a listen to the next Sammy/VH album, OU812. "When it's Love", Feels So Good" And "Finish What You Started". Great video for the latter with the boys having fun with these beautiful girls.
Judgment Day and Poundcake are great, great Sammy era tunes. But react to the “Live Right Here Right Now” concert videos. Van Halen is one of the best (if not the best) live bands ever. So to have the visual entertainment along with the musical magic, you will truly enjoy it!
I absolutely agree. I'd add Runaround from the same concert. And you HAVE to watch them live...as good as their studio stuff is, the live is just amazing!
Nick & Lex, very cool that you BOTH are going to jump down this Van Halen rabbit hole. It seems Lex was on board from the start. But Nick if you guys are going to listen to more than just the hits, I think you will also become a Van Halen fan. Myself, I always liked the David Lee Roth years the best, but there's great stuff with Sammy also. Here's some classics from the Sammy era. Right Now Love Walks In Black & Blue Best Of Both Worlds Can't Stop Lovin' You. The Roth era, very cool your doing Mean Street. The whole second side of Van Halen 2 , I just love. Light Up The Sky D.O.A. Women In Love... From women & children first. In A Simple Rhyme Everybody Wants Some From 1984 Drop Dead Legs I'll Wait.
Holy...Bob on a biscuit - your studio setup is phenomenal, not gonna lie, little bit in love with that. Anyway, glad I found this reaction - it's my go to for karaoke, as a 7ft tall Swede it feels good to shout this tune out.
Sammy was more of a singer; Dave was a yeller. Both excellent for their time! Saw VH with Dave in 1980 and then saw VH twice with Sammy in the 90s. Saw Diamond Dave solo too, with Vai and Bissonette. Saw VH again with Dave and Wolfie- Dave stank, Wolfie was great. Go next with either Poundcake or Right Now. I’ve already got my tickets for Wolfie’s band Mammoth, this fall. Peace from Toronto!
today is October 18th, one day before my Birthday October 19th, this video popped up on my RUclips menu, you guys asked for the most popular Sammy Hagar Van Halen song, it believe it's "When it's Love" or "Poundcake" those two songs are incredible, "Poundcake " will blow your mind, either song would be an incredible Birthday present if you both would react to them, Official Videos please, Thank you, Dave, ❤
the best song to represent the Sammy Hagar era to me is one of their most popular songs is " When it Love" you both will fall in love with that song, watch the official video, you will see, an incredible video, one of their best videos
I love this version of VH, otherwise referred to as VanHagar. I actually enjoy both versions, with DLR and with Sammy as lead singers. Part of why DLR left the band was because he did not like the synths part of Eddie's music. But I love it, much like when Rush started using more synths back in the 80's.
For harder edge rock from VanHagar's 5150 album, try these songs: Get Up, Good Enough, and 5150. You'll want to rock to these songs in a convertable or while working out!!!
Eddie Van Halen is the top five guitarist of all time. I don’t know if he’s the best, technically, but he gets sounds out of a guitar that I’ve never heard.
Old school VH all the way for me, although I still love Van Hagar. It's just a different, but still very good band. To really understand VH, the old school stuff is what you need. Mean Streets is a great start, and there are dozens of others. In a Simple Rhyme is a deep cut I think you would both enjoy. Hagar era - Right Now, Love Walks In, When It's Love, Poundcake. Again, a different but still very cool band.
For me.... Van Hagar's best were Right now, Best of both worlds, and..... DREAMS! Not only the song for Dreams but the video is of the US Army's flying blue knights. Awesome combo
Why not show her something that emphasizes why he was influential as a guitarist - like "Eruption", which spawned the whole two-handed tapping era. Then check out the 2 albums Roth did with Steve Vai writing and playing all the guitar parts. Vai's impression of a laughing guitar on "Yankee Rose" is pretty funny, but I wouldn't choose that as the best song. There were many fast unison passages with Vai and bassist Billy Sheehan, as on "Shy Boy". Sheehan did the same later with Paul Gilbert in Mister Big. There are quite a few examples of a rockier side of Vai you might not have heard, plus some identifiable Vai melodies , with songs like Big Trouble, Knucklebones, Skyscraper, Damn Good (with its acoustic and backwards guitar parts), and many more. If you haven't heard them, they are worth hearing at least once. Then there is the album he did with Whitesnake, Slip of the Tongue.
Not a Hagar fan. The dude never shuts up about a band that dumped him over a decade ago. He loves to play the victim, even after writing a book in which he slams Ed and Al (not just professionally, but mostly personally). In the end, no one but Mike Anthony wants anything to do with his toxicity. Enjoy Van Hagar... I never have and never will. Looking forward to more Classic (real) Van Halen reactions! Don't forget the final VH studio album. In 2012, Roth returned to take his rightful position as head quarterback after Wolfie suggested it to his dad and uncle. The album, A Different Kind of Truth, is another masterpiece like the first six albums. P.S. If anyone wants to argue about Hagar/Roth/VH, save it. I realize that people have preferences. It would be like trying to convince someone who loves grape jelly that it sucks and they should enjoy strawberry preserves, instead. It's useless.
the very best song to represent the Sammy Hagar era with Van Halen is Amsterdamn, off of the Balance CD, absolutely incredible song, incredible guitar by Eddie , wow
Try some stuff from Van Halen III, when Gary Cherrone joined them. Very experimental stuff and very un-VH sounding, but it’s worth a listen. Eddie even did some vocals. And for more Sammy, check Balance and For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge. Very different sound.
Temazo de VAN HAGAR!! "5150 , F.U.C.K." y "Balance" son tres grandes álbumes de ésta época de VAN HALEN. Me encanta SAMMY HAGAR!! Lo escucharon con JOE SATRIANI en CHICKENFOOT ?? No se la pierdan!! También está MICHAEL ANTHONY y CHAD SMITH (RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS)
“Dreams” from this album it’s also a must listen. Very motivational, a song for life.
Yes especially with the mtv video featuring the Navy’s Blue Angels. 😊
Agree!!!! I love dreams!!!
There is SO much great Van Hagar music, it's very difficult to choose a defining song, but forced to choose, Right Now comes to mind first.

"Dreams" is another great song from the Van Hagar era, very uplifting!
If you want to hear Sammy at his best, check out "I Can't Drive 55".
For harder edge rock from VanHagar's 5150 album, try these songs: Get Up, Good Enough, and 5150. You'll want to rock to these songs in a convertable or while working out!!!
House of pain... do it! As a metal head you would like it.
Nick, you will love the intro and the groove of the song "Mean Streets"! Looking forward to your review of it!
This was big on the radio. I'm surprised Lex never heard it.
Eddie Van Halen is the top five guitarist of all time. I don’t know if he’s the best, technically, but he gets sounds out of a guitar that I’ve never heard.
Well being technical is not all that. But being innovative and original and ground breaking is more important ?
Old school VH all the way for me, although I still love Van Hagar. It's just a different, but still very good band. To really understand VH, the old school stuff is what you need. Mean Streets is a great start, and there are dozens of others. In a Simple Rhyme is a deep cut I think you would both enjoy.
Hagar era - Right Now, Love Walks In, When It's Love, Poundcake. Again, a different but still very cool band.
To me, "Right Now" is a phenomenal representation of the Van Hagar era.
Right Now is a great Sammy era Van Halen.
For me.... Van Hagar's best were Right now, Best of both worlds, and..... DREAMS! Not only the song for Dreams but the video is of the US Army's flying blue knights. Awesome combo
Awesome song, awesome reaction guys...song suggestion. MINE ALL MINE..plzzzzzzzzz ,what a groove, what a track guys 🎹🎸🎤👍👍
Somebody Get Me A Doctor ( Van Halen). .. Best of Both Worlds ( Van Hagar)
VH is in the upper echelon of greatest rock bands for sure.
Gracias x reaccionar a van halen una de mis 2 bandas preferidas la otra es rush gracias saludos desde honduras
Van Halen also had Gary Cherone as the lead singer for ONE album . We used to call the non Roth albums Sam Halen.
Siempre por acá 🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷💪🤟🤟🤟🤟
Michael Anthony killing it
So love
Sammy era deeper cuts : Humans being , A.F.U, The dream is over, Amsterdam
When it's love...
So excited for Mean Street.
We reacted to it. We'll release it tomorrow around noon.
As far as the Hagar era, I would give Dreams or Poundcake , Finish what u started, or Best if Both Worlds as nominees
Van Halen, "Running With The Devil" & "Atomic Punk". ✌️
