We have a full cord of firewood, over 100 lbs of propane and a huge generator. After the big snow fall in 2021 when we had a whole week of no power we got prepared.

Max! How did you ever get an interest in all of this?? Did your Dad run a local weather station or was he a weather news castor? You are very good at this and an excellent weather anchor and host! Thank you ..
Here in NW Arkansas it is already getting dicey with the Low temps. Just drove by a gas station that had a fire hydrant bust because it froze. That road is as we speak turning into an ice sheet.
The Snowpocalypse definitely showed people that being prepared for winter weather pays off. Some tips: if your pipes aren't well insulated, turn on your faucets to a slow drip. A little bit higher water bill is still heaps cheaper than having to replace burst pipes. LAYERS! 2 or 3 layers can keep you comfortable. Don't use propane or kerosene heaters indoors! They produce carbon monoxide and it's a silent killer. If power goes out and you have some camping gear, set up a tent in your living room, body heat in a small space can really help. If you dont have a tent, you can section off a room with extra blankets. Several lit candles can help keep the heat up in a room, just be careful of fire hazards. You can stick a candle in a large jar or can of crisco and make emergency candles that will burn for several hours to days.

As someone who lives on the Tennessee River east side. The river does magic to all storms. When we're directly in a storms line it basically always goes north of us. Like it hits the river and just sails upward into Kentucky. So I'm calling it now Kentucky is going to get hammered and most of Tennessee will get maybe 2 inches of snow.
To me, this has the vibe of the Blizzard of '93, except for the time of year. That storm came in March after most people here in northern Virginia felt like spring had arrived. Crocuses were already in bloom in my yard (north-facing slope) while my neighbors had daffodils out. Unpredictably (OR at least unpredictED by the tools then available), a low pressure system moved east from southern Arizona, somehow picked up a lot of energy crossing NM, swept through Texas (acquiring a ton of moisture from the Gulf) and proceeded to blow east before turning northeast over Georgia. By the time it got here, it was packing 75 mph winds, and dropped 13 inches of snow in short order. Local temperatures plunged, and we fell back into winter for about ten days. Once the snow finally melted, the croci were still there, happily smiling under their protective cover. Minor pronunciation point: unlike the "g" in "campaign," the "g" in "significant" is NOT silent.
As another commenter pointed out, richmond, virginia has no water right now. The water systems here were impacted by snowstorms. many people in the city have no water, and some of the surrounding counties have boil water advisories. Many of the people under these advisories are low income. Schools can’t reopen, people cant shower, wash dishes or do laundry and packs of bottled water are being handed out to residents. restaurants cant operate because they don’t have running water and businesses don’t have working bathrooms because people cant flush toilets or wash their hands. I don’t see anyone talking about this right now. Thousands also don’t have power. We only got a few inches of snow and sprinkling of freezing rain.
