"They're all dead. Ha ha ha, oh my."
This is what Dwarf Fortress does to people.
"Losing is fun!"
I don't get what the big deal was with the Titanic
All they had to do was lock some doors and everything would've been fine!
That's exactly what I was saying!
You mean the doors the survivors were ripping out everywhere so they could float to safety? (50/50 chance, really, but hey...)
@@rogercounts I'd like to be able to see my catgirl at home. So imma be reckless when in an emergency
@@lederp1182 weird cat fetish?
@@fuckusingfullname Pretty much. I like the ears and tails.
LOL - he was ripping bricks out to save his ass but then, like a scolded child, had to put the bricks back once the water got too close, just sad pout-pout face dwarf slowly putting the bricks back
Rofling- just picturing him standing there while the water rises. Pouting.
Hasn't seen elves in a while, kills them less than a minute into seeing them
Well it's not MY fault they don't like wooden items!
Of course. The elves had it coming.
good, about time someone dealt with those knife-eared bastards.
Elves, a little better than goblins
Teebles ask Tolkien. He pretty much started it (even tho the movies tried to white wash that shit) and then, well, every fucking fantasy setting is basically Tolkien-lite anyway.
I am currently Sky forting, the entire city is 10 levels above the plains supported by 5 11x11 pillars with central shafts to the mines and trapped ramps that go around it from the ground to the city level. A water fort sounds like a good idea for my next attempt.
Holy shit, huh? That sounds fairly goddamn amazing. Good luck, bruh!
As a follow up, we were overrun by 200+ goblins and trolls. No one pulled lockdown lever in time. Good news is one of the last dwarves pulled the Omega lever and collapsed the supports holding up the pillars to the city. The carnage was beautiful.
Oh my...
@@tthung8668 The game is actually free, although you could support the developers by donating money through their website, and you can also download the newest version of Dwarf Fortress in the developers website too, which is www.bay12games.com/dwarves/ but I, and probably almost everyone, will recommend new players to download a sort of beginners starter pack call Lazy Newb Pack, which is also free, and use the Dwarf Fortress wiki to understand the game mechanics, though there are some good tutorial videos that explain the mechanics as well. and also don't forget that *Losing is Fun* (in the literal sense).
You should remember that Dwarf Fortress is difficult to learn for new players, but be persistent, and you will find out that this game is truly unique and amazing.
And regarding about Dwarf Fortress physics, well...its too complex for me to totally explain it, but summarize, a lot of things can go wrong if you don't pay close attention to it.
on a video that could be summarized as the dwarven city of Rapture, you stated that you made the dwarven city of Columbia.
(in the event that the person reading didn't know, these are from the Bioshock series)
I just love how he just casually says "Oh, that insane child died. Oh, well, guess we'll have to dump his carcass"
Loved the episode and the idea about. Also love how you do the art and it helps us visulise the world and the buldings.
Glad you liked it, buddy! I enjoy helping you guys imagine this crazy world :)
if you want to make an ocean fort it works with pumps, you can pump faster than the water fills back in
you need a coastal megawindfarm to power it but I've done it,and with oceanforts you have the luxury of using green glass (not to mention the abundance of sand)
it takes a lot of patience to build stack after stack of pump levels but it's worth it once the fort proper is in place and hella fun if you make it to the bottom of th sea to tunnel down past any aquifers
That's how a real dwarf avoids aquifers
What? make a cork? pump through the aquifer? Settle in an area without it?
nono
We go to the ocean,we build a testimoney to the dwarven ability to defy nature and we tunnel through the seabed to reach that magma.
That sounds like an amazing idea, Deg! I was wondering if it was possible. Hrmm- you may have just planted a seed.
Took the liberty of googling "Anthony 'Bruce' Palozie". If what I found refers to the same person in your video, I hope he rests in peace. I don't know if you were his relative or friend, but, either way, i extend my condolences. Since you yourself brought me a lot of joy, it's the least I can do.
He was my dad. He had passed away two days before this video came out.
Thanks for your kind words, buddy. You can thank him for the videos. I wouldn't be making them if he hadn't raised me the way he did.
Rest in peace. My deepest sorry. I don't know how were you able to continue making this video, but I really appreciate it. Continue the the great work!
I really don't see how you only have 2k subs. You deserve so much more. Literally one of the most original and entertaining content creators I've ever watched. I watch your videos in my feed before creators with millions of subs. There is time, effort, and love in your videos. Don't change Krugg!
Bah, to hell with subscriber numbers. You guys are all great! You can be sure, that I will NEVER change, lol. Far too stubborn for that shit.
@@kruggsmash 32k hype
He's 35k subs now, but I still think he deserves far more than he already has. We love ya Krugg, you beautiful bearded bastard!
Currently 40k!
Up and up!
@@JamesFlahiff You wrote this a week ago?
I found his channel a long time ago, but haven't been actively watching his videos so i haven't seen how his numbers are skyrocketing, but dang he's soon 50k. One more quality channel has been noticed by the youtube algorithm, i hope this keeps on and he gets a play button soon =)
Queue titan who goes underwater and smashes the doors to bits, flooding the fortress :D
Damn good to hear from you today, Krugg. Hope it's all working out.
Also, and somewhat interestingly, miner teams make excellent ad-hoc militias since using picks as weapons also uses the "miner" skill. In fact, with proper armor miners can be super effective since picks are some of the best armor-piercers in the game.
Vlakvark Unfortunately there's some problems with getting civilians to use their job tools in the military, I think you have to manually reassign their weapons to make it work.
Long Schlong Johnson Yes, you do. But a UI headache is worth seeing a bunch of blue-collar dorfs stomp all over armored enemies.
Vlakvark Indeed, indeed. When my miners busted into the caverns and two of them fell to the cavern floor from the ceiling, one of them brutally defended her wounded comrade from some troglodytes that came by to pick a fight, using her pickaxe to cut them down. I love watching my civilians heroically survive stuff they really shouldn't.
Hrmm, that's a very interesting thing, huh? I suppose i'll have to look into that at some point, huh?
Long Schlong Johnson Talk about PICKING a fight! Hehe!
A pleasant surprise! It's gotten to the point where I've been rewatching Delersholid to keep from being taken by fey moods from Kruggsmash withdrawals. You rock man
I got you, fam.
I vote on a volcano fort next. With the proper sacrificial alter of course XD.
Oh, you can't forget the altar! Good idea, Immo!
The Immortal Ryukan lava-falls. Great lava-falls
you already have the animation for it :)
The Immortal Ryukan i
This comment has aged very well given the existence of scorchfountain.
here's an idea: a hall of heros. You build a small fort, and then a series of adventurers. You train up the adventurers via exploration and questing. Then, after you gather up a bunch of powerful heros, you unretire one, and take the rest with you on an anti-goblin crusade.
My dwarves at my current fort have dark umber skin, chocolate hair, and golden eyes. They tend to have long hair and the males seem to wear pony tails. It is interesting to think that there are different ethnicities for each world.
Yeah, isn't that amazing? It adds so much to the world i'd say.
I can’t wait to see your ocean rig platform fort, I’m trying to do it myself and I can just say I’m having so much !!FUN!!
I often make underwater forts.
The way I do it is dig out the river when it is frozen as ice, then creating a 3 tile wide ramp down and building a bridge over the hole to block it off. You can usually do this quickly enough immediately when you start if you're in a biome that has frozen water for a bit during spring.
You'll be stuck underwater in there after the water melts, so you gotta be careful to get it done quick and move everything down asap.
When the next winter rolls around and everything freezes again, you can finish your work. Dig out 4 drawbridges in a square shape around the entrance then create some drains that you can open and close with a lever.
Once you're finished, your entire fortress is always under a flower river, or ice, and any time you need to get to the surface you either tunnel up through the ice or you flip the level to raise the drawbridges, which blocks the flow of water, then flip the switch to drain the water and boom. You just created a legend of zelda style dungeon entrance where the water drains out of one specific area right where the door is. Then when you're done being exposed to the surface, you just close the drain and lower the drawbridges and all the water from the river rushes in again.
I think I watched your videos in a day where I was depressed. Thank you.
I got folks like you in mind when I make these, buddy. Good to get a little escape from time to time, right? Hope you're doing well, y'bearded bastard.
>only a small amount of the fortress was destroyed
Truly a testament to the might of Armok
We win!
If less than 50% of the work-force doesn't die or get horribly disfigured, the project isn't worthy of Armok EDIT: and obviously everybody in the fortress counts as "workforce"
Glad to see I'm not the only one with the dwarves murdering each other in the streets. I had had a werelizard outbreak in one of my forts, and after we got them all contained and sealed behind walls, Three Brothers began running around and stabbing people to death whenever they were alone
Yeah, shit. That was pretty weird huh?
"I'm going out for some fresh air."
"NO! NOT THAT DOOR!"
18:22 Ha ha, foreshadowing!
Also, I'm glad I didn't get the window seat in your fortress!
I wonder if anyone ever made a Dwarf Fortress table top RPG. That would be fun to play. A bit like Kobolds Ate My Baby...
I think it could be easily enough adaptable to your favorite fantasy rpg. Generate the world, have your players be the founders of this new colony. Probably fast forward through a lot of the menial stuff, and have them deal with the crises that pop up.
@@ActionCow69 It could, but I don't think your basic D&D game could do it justice. Since D&D is about killing monsters and DF is about managing a city. I don't know of any RPGs about base-building and crisis management, but I can imagine it. Dwarf Fortress might make a pretty good board game. Like a Catan-esque game with random events sprinkled in. "On a failed Dig action, draw a card. Oh no! You drew an Aquifer! Spend 5 stress to roll again or forfeit 2 Dorfs."
anthony62490 I do know that Pathfinder has rules for this stuff in the "Ultimate Campaign" book. Rules for building kingdoms, mass combat rules, how to build rooms/structures, manage teams of npcs, downtime events, running organizations, technological advancements, etc. I've never used them myself so idk how good they are, but they're something. And could be fleshed out/expanded as a group sees fit. "Ultimate Wilderness" also has more in depth rules for exploration, salvaging things from the wild, etc.
I once tried my hand at DF some years ago, couldn't really muster the effort to get beyond building a basic fort, but it's lovely to see you play, making the story of your game so accessible even to us non-players.
Isn't it a pain to learn? Well, certainly glad you enjoy the videos, dude. Really means a lot to me actually :))
It absolutely is ;). I'm currently using your video's as my study breaks, each time I finish a chapter (or two in case they are smaller chapters) I treat myself to the next episode, the last one I watched was "Steelclutches Part-4: Ageless War 8 - Gomathzon Rising" I'm massively enjoying that series, and also the love and care that went into it.
It was a great circus to behold, although I assume you knew well before you opened it up what would happen and did it anyway for the hell of it :p.
Wow, your art style has really changed over the years
Thank you for your videos, Kruggsmash. You make very funny videos, and they inspire me do things in dwarf fortress I wouldn't otherwise do. Like, for instance, playing as the last of dwarfkind, or an underwater fortress. You rock!
Man, your work gets more and more impressive with each episode. You've grown *so much* skill-wise in such a short time - incredible stuff. =)
You think so? Well, thanks, Lord Scholar! It certainly helps to never be happy with your own abilities!
“An elven caravan has arrived.”
“Quick! Hide the lumber!”
Wow you killed this werechameleon, i had a lot of issues with killing one. They have ranged tongue attack. I ended up with 10 infected dwarfs.
Ha! Yeah it was (seemingly) very easy. I think I got lucky.
I love this, never quit. I have so much fun watching you.
Oh, I won't, Joey. I'm gonna keep doing this for fine folks like yourself, aight?
Nice. Thanks for posting after all
Loved how the andacondas icon kinda looked like a sideways snake face
Np, bruh. Thats the imagination in ya!
So exciting to see another video, Krugg! All the art on this one was just spectacular, I'm awed, this whole thing was just great. Thank you!
23:40 At least a dorf tried to build the wall, rather than the whole fort deciding to take some form of break at exactly that time.
"Kobold named... Syphilis."
Ah a Kruggsmash upload, Thats the stuff to wake up to. Nothing quite like it. Wait.... This be a new world?
Yep- only a one-off thing though. no worries- the main series will return, aight?
I bet if you let that fort run for a bit longer, one of the miners that drowned filling the lake would come back as a poltergeist and open one of those doors, killing everyone.
Omg I would hate that but I would love it so much. that would be amazing, huh?
I love your use of imagination. Bloody brilliant work with all your videos, a true gem in gaming.
I have no idea what I’m even looking at but I just come for the story and art work ahah
Holy crap, wasn't expecting a new upload! Hope you've been doing okay, I'm really digging the new art look and all the bro art.
Those are some moist miners
Interesting kind of let's play. I really appreciate this, especially when it comes to dwarf fortress. Good mix between explanation of your ideas and reactions to the game
Hey, thank ya kindly buddy :))
I was looking for a dwarf fortress content creator like you for ages, and this what you do sir is just pure fun. Now get back to work.
just discovering these videos now. its great to have all these experiences to give me ideas, and im sure once the steam version releases, theyll be helpful to many more people too
how can this be so good.... your story telling is a balm that you apply to a putrid wound and..... then all is good:0
Thank you so much for the video, Krugg! I have been binge watching the whole of the Steelclutches saga, catching up in a week or two after discovering your channel, and I must say, this first week without anything new from you was surprisingly hard for me. I have never seen such amazing quality in RUclips videos before, and you keep that up even in spite of some bad shit happening in your life right now - which I sincerely hope you get through soon!
The effort and incredible amount of time you obviously put into every single one of your vids is really inspiring!
You are a good one and the living proof of the old dwarven saying: "with stout labour comes sustenance" :)
Keep it up, friend!
Wow, that's a super sweet intro! I forgot this series had a different one! Nice to see you back!
Thanks, dude! Glad you watched :D
its crazy to see how much you'r art has progressed in such a short time. well done
This is such a great video, I love these short forts so much - I'm so glad you tried to do an underwater fort, I'm currently trying to think of something cool for a next short fort, perhaps like an arena you can trap invaders in and fight to the death gladiator style? You could even capture or embark some horrific monsters or just beasties
14:25 "hey there smoothskin"
Yay my favorite DF letsplayer is back! Glad to see you again :)
I love the art, Great series.
Keep your chin up.
Love your work
Keep it up.
"just a very 'miner' observation..." (since they're all miners)
11:51 that’s the most dwarf thing I have ever heard
Yeah another video! You are great Krugg. Every second of your content is a joy to watch!
Glad to hear, ya like it, Barney!
That feel when youre drunk get greeted as a bearded bastard and start weeping uncontrollably at your lack of facial hair
Glad you got a vid out dude
That makes two of us!
Holy crap, a goblin named Syphilis x)
Awesome video as usual Krugg, keep it up !
You have so much passion for this...
Just discovered this gem of series, somewhat late.. Underwater fortress. You are indeed insane, and that is a compliment. Absolutely brilliant work, Krugg, now throw it on the stockpile and continue hauling ;) Love your narration big time 🤓
The Batman-esque voice had me cracking up. Great stuff!
still rewatching this four years later
I'm far too intimidated to try learning this game myself, I just don't have the time. But listening to this was funny and great, and I enjoy the short fort format. Thanks for taking the time to make this!
I think it would be really cool to revisit the underwater fort idea in the future (oh man, it would be so cool to do that alongside the long night mod, and you're really one of the few who could) - though anything you put out will be fantastic.
Based on the combat logs it looks like the expedition leader was throwing the logs at the recruit and eventually had enough when it destroyed his hand. I mean this video is years old but it's still fun to figure out why things happen lmao
That new intro had me going! Love the updates!
Thanks, dude! I actually only use this one on my "short forts" vids
Hey, it doesn't matter what dwarves make outta wood as long as they keep using wood just to spite the elves!
Another hilarious episode!
Thanks, Jim tech!
in an adventure mod game, i had accidentally thrown a kidney at my cheetah man spearman companion and he just killed me in before i could do anything...so characters can be pretty vengeful in df :D
8:34 HOW TF DID THAT HAPPEN?
I genuinely expected not to receive a video this week, but even if it's not the usual series I am happy we got something
Darn tootin' you're happy! Thanks for watchin', Dev!
this video is 10/10, pretty artistic and well edited videos, best regards from Costa Rica
This idea is really cool man, can't wait for more.
Glad you liked it, CJ!
Im a noob but when i "try" to play dwarf fortress, i picture shit like ur drawlings.Your fun to watch keep it up !
Finally... My fix....
Sorry, brotha :P
tropical swamp, adjacent to lake: no aquifer
my fort in the foothills of a major mountain range, no water within 10 z levels: saturated shale. Thanks toadie
No Gods or Kings, only Dwarves
The dead dwarf outside the window killed me. Err...phrasing.
Proud of being a part of your fanbase mate.
Proud to have you be a part of it Raffy!
Hey Krugg, another great video, thank you!
If you give some dwarves 2 ranks in swimming, they can trigger the flood for you and safely swim out. I think they need a ramp at the water's edge to climb out, though.
This was awesome mate!
New DF and your channel. So far this series is amazing. Well.done
love the opening!
Thanks, bruh :)
Great video I like how you've edited it together.
FWIW, I've only been playing a little while _because of you, you bastard!_ and I've found that prepared-meals pots are the easiest way to make money for me.
Another masterpiece DF video, toss it into the pile and keep doing what you enjoy! :D
Thanks, Aust! Back to work!
I really wanted to see the video end with him unlocking those doors and a sudden destruction.
Gosh, I loved the model. Short little forts are good for testing ideas like that =D
I was not ready for the "natural curves"
I've only watched three videos of this channel and I'm already so into your content it's so much more creative and gahh it's great to watch in free time (insta sub)
Very well done. Full of twists and turns and morbid laughs.
I hope your bad shit turns to good soon. Be well.
Ohh those morbid laughs! Yeah, i'm a sick bastard sometimes.
In the future it would be nice to throw goblins into the murky lake so that dwarves can see said goblins via glass. Perfect for dwarves who are praying in a temple or eating in a grand dining hall.
Thoughts for the future I guess.
Ha! Wouldn't THAT be amazing?! Just floating goblin skeletons all over the place? Aw man, that'd be so awesome!
great episode as always!
Thanks, dude!
Glad to see you're back! That said, always feel like you can take a break if, as you put it, "bad shit" comes up again.
Bah, hard work keep your mind off of shit, y'know? No worries about me, Donny- thanks though!
fantastic animations. time well spent says i.
Thanks, Andy!
You're awesome Kruggsy!
Dwarf Fortress simulates genetics, so a civilization will end up with similar features overtime.
Yay! Very good stuff, thanx!
Glad you liked it, buddy!
Not a single dislike. That's a hell of a quality proof!
krugg, you smashed it ;)
Thank You for this new Episode. Please do not overexert yourself, thank you Kruggy
Over-expert? Pah! Could never happen.
Glad you liked it, Sky!
This is so cool!!
