      @@kruggsmash it was a real pleasure to watch you navigate the game completely blind. I found it more entertaining than let's plays by experienced players. It helped me relive the wonder of starting CoQ for the first time. You Praetorian character happened to be perfect for that sort of roleplay. They're basically like a vault dweller from Fallout. He probably did think it was weird to be offered water as currency.
      Here's an important tip that I haven't seen anywhere else in the comments: press w and a direction to walk in that direction until you bump into something or spot a hazard. Holding a direction to walk is a good way to accidentally kill yourself. (Maybe you were already doing this, but if not it's a good habit to get into.)

    By the way, here's a tip. Each starter village has a repeating number of quests you can do. If you do enough of them, the main questline will be unlocked! So it's worth hanging out in your starter areas for a while.

    • @HattedGamer01
      @HattedGamer01 8 месяцев назад +69

      This isn't entirely accurate, village quests aren't repeatable. Each randomly generated starter village has two procedurally generated quests, one of which rewards you with a choice between 3 random rewards, and the other quest rewards you with a recoiler and leads you to the main questline. If you start in joppa, the main quest always starts with Argyve in the bottom left corner of the village.

    I think Qud works really well for Krugg's style, being very based on prose that is meant to allow you to visually intepret things, similarly to what he's done with DF for so long. I also like the rough-edged art style in this episode too, it looks nice while being very distinctive from Krugg's other series. I'd love to see Qud be something he comes back to every now-and-again, like he's done with DF mods.

    Seeing you do CoQ is a dream come true and as someone with 500+ hrs in the game it's so refreshingly fun seeing you explore the early game very carefully. Love the drawings so far, Aecius running away from the snapjaws was especially great.
    Don't want to spoil anything for you as you are going in blind but here's some helpful buttons that should help a bit with navigation:
    - You might have figured it out already but "numpad -" let's you go out to the worldmap (if you're outside on the ground) and "numpad +" let's you enter a tile (or Parasang as it's called in-game) from the worldmap. They are also used to navigate to stairs leading up or down when you're in a dungeon.
    - If you press "Backspace" you should see a list of all friendly entities in the zone. Really helpful when trying to find a quest-giver in a village since the npc's move around a lot on their Parasang.
    - "Numpad 7" and "Numpad 9" lets you switch between the different menus (Skills, Character, Journal, Inventory, Equipment etc.)
    - Pressing left (or "Numpad 4" on the equipment screen will unequip whatever item you have selected, saves you from opening the item-menu everytime.
    - CoQ has a great hotkey-system, press A to open the Ability-menu, setting these up is not needed in the beginning but as you get more skills it's highly recommended.

  • @eamondo2

    Krugg,
    Pro-tip for your inevitable character recreation. The starter village is an excellent place to get some freebie skills, if you water deal with the residents you can get sufficient rep. such that you can "buy" a free skill from them.
    Sometimes, if you get lucky you can acquire a companion that way. Though you've got to be rather careful, water-deals are taken real seriously and companions gained that way especially so. If they die, it's assumed to be your fault somehow, and you take a massive rep hit.
    Also, numpad is your friend! The "+" and "-" keys go up/down floors, and when you're on the surface they bring up the overworld map.

      @kruggsmash  8 месяцев назад +1

      Noooo Aecius won't diiie. This is the one character that will get through the game 1000%. guarantee it. I love him, you see.
      But yes, thanks for the tips. I will have to have a look into them. I had NO idea what that water ritual was even doing when I talked to that flower warden thing lol.

      @@kruggsmash The water ritual is a way to make friends and enemies; learn secrets; and gain skills from certain people like village leaders! You trade your reputation like a currency using the water ritual as the primary way.
      It's like the Qud equivalent of having coffee except mushrooms might go to war with you if you have too many cups with the wrong people; that's why it tells you who loves or hates which individual.

    Major control tips without spoilers:
    - CTRL + Space will let you interact with nearby terrain or items, which lets you pick stuff up without standing on top of it.
    - CTRL + a direction will allow you to attack in a given direction. This will let you attack enemies without worrying about accidentally moving or target terrain/objects if you want.
    - Holding down ALT will erase most terrain from the screen and display interactable objects and characters. Characters will be colored based on whether they are hostile or not when you do this, so it's great to quickly gain your bearings in densely-populated screens.

Then went back to CoQ and they had added alot of content and quality of life stuff and then I really started to understand it, had countless characters. Right now Iam playing a cannibalistic birdman with four arms who mainly uses guns and axes, level 20, have fought countless enemies, found countless cool and useful items but haven't even seen half of it. Absolute genius game, and the artstyle is exactly in the right spot, where it's somewhat stylish and creates and atmosphere, while leaving plenty of room to inspire your own imagination.
