  • I often have lighting issues in the Maker Cave when I want to record a video, but rather than spend over $75.00 for a small LCD light panel I decided to make one from an old computer monitor I found at a local thrift shop for $5.00, and some LED light strips I had left over from another project.
Materials Use to Make This Project:
    - An old LCD monitor
    - A discarded power cord (12V output)
    - Bright white LED light strip
    - Wire and solder
    - Shrink wrap or electrical tape

You could have improved it by removing the polarizing film(s) from the LCD panel and put it back on. That would give you a smooth glass surface. With the film(s) removed, the LCD is transparent.

What do you use the finished panel for?

Mostly I've used it to add extra light to backlight things I'm taking photos or videos of. Because my workspace is in the basement it can get pretty dark depending on the time of day and season.
