I have a doctorate degree in flute performance. Most of the folks that know me call me the flute doctor out of kindness and respect because of that fact. David
In the intros to Dr Klee's video lessons he's shown performing with an ensemble. What is the tune they're playing? Is that video available in its entirety? It's absolutely great!
Try Nestor Torres. Also the Jethro Tull band (Ian Anderson is the name of their flutist). Also check out my video with my song "City at Night". Hope this helps! David
@@fluteputter This is an ancient comment so you probably won't read this, but I am here today precisely to look up this technique after listening to the Jethro Tull track, Teacher, in which Ian Anderson uses this style. Thanks for explaining it and performing it so well.
Ok David, sorry for my intervention. The difference between "I'm Doctor XY" and "My name is Doctor XY" is quite large... I think ... It was the first instinct that made me write on your page. I'm a history teacher and i find unappropriate to present myself in front of my children as " My name is Professor Sorin Onose". And I have some friends who are doctors in History and they dont use that title in front of theirs students AS THEIR NAMES. (they even dont mention that) Otherwise, i found your videos very, very interesting and i will learn from them , thank you very much, David.
For funk try starting some licks on the e or the a rather than the down beats....bah Dah dah isn't very funky...also think in abit more about clave rhythm want to be skipping the second beat....let the snare smack....always be thinking in 16th notes not 8th notes
Thanks SO much for your valued feedback! I DO appreciate it! Glad you're enjoying the videos. David
Jeremy Steig, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Ian Anderson.......among others, have mastered this.....Thanks Doc...
Great way to take a classical sound and make it fit in a different genre!
I've been DYING to learn how to play in that buzzy style. THANK you!
AWESOME! GLAD it helps! David
I cannot believe someone is concerned with what your name is. Lovely instructional videos. Thank you, Richie
Thanks for the tips. Definitely going start adding this into my solos to add a different colour
Glad it helped!!! Keep fluting!! David

I really want to know this too, I want to see the full version
OH MAN i love this vid. another cool thing to try is to simultaneously roll and jump an octave!
You are absolutely correct on the octave-roll-jump! Thanks!! David
how do you overblow and you get to that buzzy sound? isnt that gonna produce just the first harmonic?
Thank you so kindly! I just like to show that flutists can play jazz also!! Thanks again! David
Hey Dr Klee can you recommend some good flute players who play in a funk style?
Thanks Kess
