IMO, it's pretty much a lock he'll be the next host for the show. Ken even co-read the audio version of Alex's recently released autobiography - the two had become close friends.

I think Alex would approve. They were good friends, and Ken even narrates the audiobook version of Alex's book about his life. Give the man the job already, assuming he wants it, I think he's the best fit.

I don't know how true this is, but from what I've heard, Ken has been a part of the behind the scenes for quite some time as the team wanted Ken to be the replacement for Alex for when Alex's time came. James would obviously be a great back up. However, you can't make a great contestant to a memorable host without training. I think the Jeopardy! team should get a hold of James as a possible back up.
James Holtzhauer? Nah, the guy's on-screen personality is fairly bland. A big part of reading clues is intonation, and where to stop/start/emphasize. I can't hear James's voice doing that very well. His voice also doesn't command a stage.

But your logic is severely and fundamentally flawed if you use that data to jump the the false conclusion that “so he should be the host. He’s earned it.” Being a game show champion and being a game show host are two COMPLETELY different and completely unrelated things. Alex Trebek possessed a seemingly timeless poise and nearly universally beloved charm. Truly a rare trait. Who else in the American celebrity universe can this be said of in 2020? Not many. He was an absolutely masterful MC. Some might say, the GOAT even. Would he be the GOAT as a contestant on such a show? Maybe. Probably not. The same is true in the inverse for Jennings. I admit it. Personally, I just don’t like him. His demeanor is off putting and there’s a sense of phoniness which I find wholly unpalatable. I’m not saying he’s a bad person, but what qualifications does he have to fill in such a hallowed television role? None. Being the host of a show like this has nothing to do with being a former contestant or a champion to any of that. It has to do with being able to strike a delicate balance of poise, funniness, whit, and charm. To me, Jennings ain’t got it. Again, if he sticks around for a few months or whatever, fine. But if he becomes **the** Jeopardy! host indefinitely, I think you’re going to see a severe dip in ratings. I know no one can ever “replace” Alex. But whoever hosts this show henceforth in a permanent capacity should be someone who possesses at least more of the qualities needed to be a decent host.

Ken already works on the show, I say he's one of maybe 2 logical options to host, the other being James Holzhauer. There may be some sexier names out there, but Ken seems like the guy.
I still want LeVar. Growing up with Reading Rainbow, his voice is soothing in such a way that Alex was. I understand that Ken is a legend, I just don’t believe that he has the voice or the subtle charms required of a host. I mean I won’t be mad but for a role of host, I feel LeVar will excel at this.
There are many people who would make good hosts but no one, other than Alex, is as synonymous with Jeopardy as Ken Jennings. Lavar would also be great but he's in his 60's, a little old to start the job. Ken is definitely my first choice to take over permanently.
