as self-proclaimed TED-Ed video connoisseur, I believe this may be the best video overall. The soundtrack, visuals, art and storytelling; everything is next level.
I remember a time, when an entire mini-town in my state got deceased due to the arsenic levels in their wells, that they drank directly from ! That's probably 30 years back.
Thank TED-Ed for providing such an insightful and detailed exploration of arsenic's dark history; it highlights the fascinating interplay between science, power, and human ingenuity across centuries.
Very good channel. You can learn a lot from it. Interesting films from which you can learn a lot and find out a lot of interesting things. And everything is presented in an accessible, understandable way.
Interestingly enough, I worked at a university ecology lab with the preserved bird specimens, which were treated with Arsenic as a way to keep pests away apparently. I had to wear a face mask and gloves to handle the birds.
@iamgreatalwaysgreat8209 It's a line from "He Had It Comin'", one of the songs in the musical "Chicago". It's sung by a bunch of women in jail for murder.
Per gli italiani che sono interessati, noi abbiamo fatto un intero episodio sui prodotti che contenevano il "verde all'arsenico", e non erano pochi durante il 1800 :D
What a coincidence that this video was uploaded the day after I finished reading all of the Hercule Poirot novels by Agatha Christie, in which arsenic poison is commonly used as murder weapon 😂
one night i was scrolling through my phone, feeling like i’d never figure out why some people just seem so magnetic. then i came across this book, Magnetic Aura by Takeshi Mizuki, and something about it caught my attention. reading it was like turning on a light in a dark room. it’s not about pretending to be someone you’re not; it’s about unlocking the energy you already have. trust me, this book is worth every page
I think only for some poisons but not others. Like obviously ones that build up in the blood over time are a bad idea (like heavy metals) or ones that would work too quickly for any antibodies to attack it (like cyanide). However, things like snake venom it seems like it is possible, although you'd never be immune just that it wouldn't be as bad.
i remember feeling like i was always the one fading into the background while others stood out effortlessly. it was frustrating and made me doubt myself a lot. then i came across this book, Magnetic Aura by Takeshi Mizuki, and it showed me things i’d never even considered. it’s not just a self-help book; it’s like a guide to understanding your own energy and using it to connect with people. if you’ve ever felt like you’re not seen, this book might change everything.
i remember this one time i felt like no matter what i did, people just didn’t notice me. i tried everything-confidence boosters, social tips, you name it-but nothing seemed to work. then i found this book, Magnetic Aura by Takeshi Mizuki, and it completely shifted how i saw myself. it’s not just about being noticed; it’s about understanding the energy you project. honestly, this book made all the difference for me. if you’ve ever felt invisible, you need to read it.
Arsenic: the OG influencer-it was killing it in fashion, home decor, and, well... people
For real
ah yes.. death of influence and style
It was slaying- literally
Original Gangster indeed
Does this allow it to claim the crown as most deadliest element?

This one, Higgs Boson one, and Mao’s Mangoes have to be my top 3
The sound team outdid themselves on this one
Did their big one with this 😂❤

Opening quote is wild. RIP Emile
Yeah, it's absolutely brutal
Being this early and watching the likes and views go up in time with the dramatic music really is something...

Which state and when
what town
"we need a killer soundtrack for this video" is what the composer heard, but not exactly what they meant 😂
Can we talk about how absolutely mind breaking this music is?
Agreed.

I love TED-ED, never miss a notif ;p
I always remember Mithridates VI "the poison King" when it's about poison.
I don't think microdosing can meaningfully increase your tolerance of arsenic. You'd just get cancer.
Love watching a vid about poison while eating lunch at work
First! I learn so much from your videos ❤
From ALL of the true crime TV shows & movies that involve a poisoning in some shape or form, arsenic makes an appearance.
Gorgeous animation work!!
The music for me, quite potent!
Interestingly enough, I worked at a university ecology lab with the preserved bird specimens, which were treated with Arsenic as a way to keep pests away apparently. I had to wear a face mask and gloves to handle the birds.
You know, I still think Silicon is my favourite element
Brazil?
If a poison expires does it become more poisonous or less poisonous??
less, expires implies that it is beyond the use-date, given that poison is used to poison, it would deteriorate in effect over time.
Loved the animation and music.
I wonder what mundane substances will be treated as dangerous 100 years down the line.
The timing is wild (A whole family got poisoned with Arsenic in Brasil)
This is very phenomenal 🩵💙
We love you ted-ed
Now I wanna watch Arsenic and Old Lace, even though it's a Halloween movie 😖
You can watch stuff at any time of the year
A true classic
This is delightful
This is stunning
This is fantastic
Napolean's exile house on St. Helena was decorated with Scheele's Green, which may have contributed to his death.
I recall he passed from stomach cancer...?
It was more radiation based than poison so stomach cancer still makes sense.
This is enchanting
This is wonderful
This is incredible
Interesting to learn about
I just read the history of Poison by Ben Hubbard so this was nice to see. A lot of the cases in this video were in the book
This is magical
This is radiant
Creature Feature when making 'The Art of Poisoning': Write that down! Write that down!

Best thing to watch before sleeping knowing my walls aren't arsenic positive
Want to hire an invisible assassin, hire arsenic.

One of the most profound activist from my country was poisoned by this one, truly terrifying

This is perfect
Proud to say that its been 10 minutes that this has been posted
Omg arsenic doesn’t sound like a word anymore
semantic satuation
Im early to a ted video
Interesting video but since I am a Swede, I am dissapointed by the bad pronounciation of Scheele. The last e isn't silent.....
Here in Brazil, an entire family was poisoned by arsenic on the last week 😮 It seems that Ted-ED has been following the Brazilian news

I was gonna ask the same thing.
