- We’re very excited about this bike. It’s a very slick city commuter ebike. The Moustache Friday FS has been fully updated to include a new frame and now utilizes the Bosch Generation 4 CX Motor. I think this is a great bike for people who want to get around the city quickly while looking good and being comfortable.

I just took delivery from Propel a matching pair of Moustache Samedi 27 XRoad FS5 for my wife and I, which is basically the same ebike except it has a 625 battery and more aggressive dual-purpose tires. There’s miles of off-road trails in my area of Eastern Long Island, NY and that’s where my bikes really shine.
The build-quality and integrated finish is second to none. Moustache makes a world-class ebike.
Thanks Andy! World-class bikes for world-class people. I hope you’re staying safe and sane. Looking forward to catching up in person this summer.
..."for my wife and ME, ..." You wouldn't say "for I", right? So, when you include another person, it doesn't change the proper use of the object of the preposition. Sorry, pet peeve of mine.
I bought the Friday FS Ltd last year after test-riding a few other ebikes.(The Trek Supercommuter was on my list but the FS is vastly superior) The bike is incredibly comfortable and gives the rider a real feeling of confidence - it is absolutely rock-solid to ride and goes over ruts, potholes with impunity. Hill-climbing, strong headwinds - the Moustache is undaunted by anything! Yes, it's expensive and to my mind is somewhere between a regular bike and a moped - in the UK we are limited to 15mph but the build of this bike is capable of much faster speeds - but despite this I am still very happy with it. I love the upright riding position and it really puts your view above the traffic. Downsides? I'm 6'1'' and 190lbs - I find it hard to get much over 17mph on the flat without really going for it but that's probably just my fitness! Also, ground clearance when banking round corners is limited - make sure the near-side pedal is at 12 o' clock when doing so. Despite what the reviewer says, it is heavy - I wouldn't want to be lifting it upstairs for any distance. Overall, go and test-ride one - the Moustache encourages you to 'sit back' and just enjoy the ride - you might find it hard to go for anything less comfortable!
Max Brod are you losing speed because of less efficiency from the full suspension? Do you not have this problem with other bikes? Curious because I won’t be able to test this bike in person. On my current bike I just switch to a higher gear on flats (more effort but also taking advantage of momentum) and I easily get to 20 mph.
Check your tyre pressures!
Thanks Chris for this pretty nice review. Well filmed and very interesting informations about this great Moustache Bike.

Quick park would be great for carrying the bike on a tray type bike rack like a Kuat. Just turn the bars to the side with the wheels locked in the tray and it's easy to carry two bikes.
Great point! I’ve owned a Kuat rack for years and have actually used this stem during transport before.
With a name like Moustache, it's safe to presume they must be dead serious about their bikes 😉 Great review
I’m looking forward to your review of the 2020 Moustache Trail bike
Hey Julie! Good to see you on here! I will try to do one when I can, but it’s a little crazy these days. I hope you stay tuned :)
@@Propelbikes Sounds good! Stay safe out there!
Looking for "off-roadier" with a solid rack, maybe add a basket, but still usable as a cummuter, like the fenders. Possible to go a bit fatter on the tires, maybe going down to 26"? would add a bit of torque for heavy hill climbing too
You're looking for a Moustache Samedi 27 Xroad ;)
Nice FS Bike! I wish it came in a HS version (28mph) with the 625wh power tube! What's the max weight rating? Can you guys do a dongle unlock on the CX motor?
I think you’re not alone here. The CX motor is really nice for cruising around and touring though. We don’t do dongles unfortunately.
@@Propelbikes Thank you. Does the manufacturer state a max weight for the bike, given the FS?
The max weight is 275lbs for the rider.
Reise Muller & Haibike had offspring. Would like to see it in dirt trim. Fat tires and no fenders
Check out the Trail version. It’s pretty awesome! propelbikes.com/product/moustache-samedi-27-trail-8-2020/
Propel Electric Bikes can you discuss what factors to consider in choosing between the Moustache Friday FS or trail version and the R&M Delite?
I can mention some of them here but it might be easier to have a call to discuss. The Friday has fenders, rack and lights so it’s more street oriented. Similar to most Delite’s aside from the Mountain version. The Delite has more options for drivetrains and motors though. You can get it in a High Speed version and you also have an option to get a belt drive with the Rohloff or Enviolo (Vario) hub.
It surprises me that e-bikes lack any built-in security measures. At the least, there should be an option to lock the motor. Ideally there would be both a transmission and disc brake auto-lock anytime the bike is powered off. E-bikes are only useful when you can ride and park them somewhere useful without worrying about the bike being picked apart.
Some hub motors have this feature. They simply increase the regen to the max. Can't drive like this. For mid motors this would be more difficult to build.
I heard that Bosch systems have this kind of security when you take out the display with you like the kiox display, so if someone tried to steal your bike, they would be unable to make use of the bosch system because the original display is not there but i agree we could use some security in the non electric parts like the brakes and literally make the bike 100% unusable
Hi, I understand that there is a speed version in gloss black coming soon. Will it be priced the same as this one? Slightly higher?
It’s not likely that it will come to the US this year. Maybe next year. We’ll know more around September or so.
It looks like the built in battery is more of a hassle to remove and re-insert than the exterior ones, plus it is heavier and more expensive. Is this a case of form over function, or does it have any advantages?
Nice review! I’m 6’1 and 32 inch inseam ...would i go for xl frame size for this model?
Thanks! Large would be the recommended size for you. I have one in stock if you’re interested
Hi , would you be able and willing to do a comparison review of the Moustache Friday 27 FS7 and the Moustache Samedi 27 FS XRoad7?. Thank you
Wish this could feature the heavier duty rack as my food shopping gets very heavy!
I'm sure you can change the rack
So you always need the key to insert the battery back in the frame? My Gen1 Bosch Powerpack only need a key to release, not to put back, which like more.
Only on the powertube
how do you compare this versus the Samedi Xroads FS - seems so similar
Very similar except the Xroad has an air fork on the 7 and the Friday is Coil. Otherwise they are very similar. Just different tires and such.
Chris do you review Stromer bikes?
I haven’t yet, but probably will eventually. Do
you have a favorite?
@@Propelbikes It would be nice to hear your take on the ST1 or ST3 as these are the most common ones. Albeit in Germany you don't see them very often. There is also the question of spare parts in case something breaks. Stromer is as proprietary as it comes. :-)
how do i buy this bike? i am based out of Texas

Why has Moustache decided to go with the traditional chain instead of a carbon belt chain or a valio system?
Not too many companies do this. But the bike works well for what it is. A sporty bike to get around and explore with. Maybe they will do this in the future, but it’s not so easy to make a full suspension bike with a belt. Riese & Müller is one of the few that took on that engineering feat.
The belt has one advantage only to a chain which is low maintance.
Other than that the belt has nothing but disadvantages.
First of all the efficiency of a belt is lower than a chain.
Second the frame of the bike has to be constructed so it can be opened on one sinde in orfer to change the belt. This makes the frame a little less stiff on that part.
But thirdly it requires either an enviolo or rohloff gearbox which are relatively expensive. The cheaper Shimano Nexus 7 or 8 speed don't work with higher power motors. They just work with entry level or low level motors in terms of torque (50 Nm maximum) because otherwise they would break down quickly. In addition to that those Nexus gearboxes freeze below a certain temperature and don't shift anymore. Also their lowest gear is not low enough for hills.
Rohloff has none of those problems and is the only gearbox that can handle big motors other than enviolo. But it costs 1000 bucks just for the gearbox.
@propelelectricbikes will the 2020 XRoad 5 FS be available soon?
We were supposed to see them in a few weeks but we might not be seeing them until May now because the Moustache factory is currently shut down. If you email us we can get you a better estimate with updates.
That’s a nice looking jacket you’re wearing. What brand is it?
Thanks! It was a collaboration between Hurley and Carhartt. I'm not sure if it's made anymore.
Is is available in UK? £?
So the U.S. wont be getting the Speed version of this?
Not at this time. Maybe next year
That’s what I’m looking for, however, I would like to have a throttle please.
Not sure if you tried a Bosch motor, but I bet you won’t miss a throttle.
Its pedal assist guy, no throttle needed. Gives assistance based on what you put in.
Funny, samedi is saturday, but that pronunciation, that wasn't it :)
SAHM-dee is how it's pronounced. He said Sah-MED-ay
Is this model the fastest of the range?
Will Moustache evolve to a gates belt one of these days?
Unlikely, because first of all belts are less efficient than chains and second with higher power motors you would need a rohloff gearbox in order to handle the power of those powerful engines like the bosch cx and this would make the bike at least 1000 bucks more expensive just for the transmission alone.
5300 Dollar is just a deal breaker...
I totally respect that. Fortunately there are many more options out there. I also hope as the industry scales the prices will lower.
WHY ! put a racing SEAT ON IT!!!?????? Needs a nice big comfy seat and why not just make it as a Scooter without the need for pedaling and gears but only a throttle!!! As I can't tolerate cycling anymore the pedaling motion I not like at all ! Reason why I have a motorbike
