    Lovely bike - perfect commuter. Saddle comfort is always a tricky one (one size does not fit all). Sole gripe is the cafe lock is on top of the seat stays which makes it easier to bust open with a hammer --- Putting it beneath the stays makes for a tougher swing. Those are some seriously good fenders.

    • @ElectricBikeReview

      That is an excellent insight, Rod! Thanks... I have definitely seen cafe locks below the stays before, and now I know why ;)

    Its a really good looking bike but like most euro bikes its a little over priced for what it can do unless you live in Europe. The full suspension model looked gorgeous hope to see a review of that! Hopefully one day US sales will be large enough to warrant some America specific motors from Bosch that really take advantage of our 750watt limit then I would be more likely to throw down some cash!

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  4 года назад +1

  • @jcreed09
    @jcreed09 4 года назад +3

    $4.5K with no throttle, expensive and built for Europe. However, If you live in a city, suburb and your commute to work is short, Pedelec only is fine, it's way cheaper than a good used car, save money on gas, insurance, get exercise and good for Mother Earth.

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  4 года назад +1

      I see this as a more active bike... it has a great ergonomic setup, can go long distance with the efficient motor and large battery, and has lots of carrying capacity and options with that rack. The fenders are super sturdy and the lights are excellent, especially the headlight. No throttle, that's true, but that makes it Class 1 which can go on more trails and mountain bike areas if you want to take the scenic route :D

  • @marcb1289

    There seems to be a mismatch between the given price and the tested bike: the bike is a 2020 Xroad 5 (I nearly bought one with open frame) which had a price around 3700 Euros in France, but the given price is for 2021 Xroad 7 (4500 Euros in France) which switches colors with Xroad 5 (which becomes red). The 2021 Xroad 5 now cost 200 Euros more (3900 Euros), but has better motor (CX); and there is no more full open frame for this model.

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  4 года назад +1

      Hmm, that's interesting! Thanks for the details Marc. It's tricky for me to get the exact pricing and specs on some of these ebikes because they are sold in Europe, US, and Canada but the official website doesn't list prices in all denominations. It seems like there are also slight differences in components sometimes. In any case, I try to cover what I saw as accurately as possible :)

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  4 года назад

      Yeah, it's a bit heavy... but I understand why. Their fenders and racks are really great. This is a premium SUV commuter type of ebike in my opinion. Just like an SUV, it's off-road capable, but the style and branding feel more luxury for use in an urban setting. That's my take at least. I do really like Moustache as a company :)

  • @leojonkers3181
    @leojonkers3181 4 года назад +3

    Moustache sells reasonable priced bikes as well. The Moustache Samedi 28.1 2020 cost in Europe 2368 dollar, 400 watt battery in the middle. Bosch Active Line. That is what I call a reasonable price for an e-bike with a Bosch middle motor.

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  4 года назад +5

      I actually wished that I had spent more on my first ebike (it was $2k and much heavier and low-performance than I wanted). I guess it depends on ride style and frequency. I ride everyday and want a bike that's light, fast, and responsive :D

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  4 года назад +1

      Yeah, you could definitely go that long... but it really comes down to which assist level is chosen and how much effort you expend as a rider. Tire pressure, your body weight + cargo, the terrain, and even wind all play a role. It's one of those lame answers... "it depends" but yes, I think this battery can go upwards of 100 miles per charge in the lower levels of assist with occasional boost up to Turbo ;)

    Value? For almost $5,000.00? I would expect all these things plus another motor in the front and another battery of maybe greater capacity. I won't finish watching this. They probably don't sell a frame for a 5' person.

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  4 года назад +3

      Hi James! I put "premium" in the title because I feel that's how it is priced. If you want the big battery, custom frame, nice fenders, rack, and lights... that costs money, but it could actually be a good value if you want reliability. They do sell this ebike in four sizes, and have a mid-step version! For $1k less, they have an Xroad 2 with the same frame and similar accessories, but smaller battery, lower-end drivetrain, and cheaper lights :)

  • @eGazTheFirstAustralian

    Question; what happened to the 6' 2" guy? Also, you often point out issues with things then you praise the same very item. For instance, you complain about the seat, then in the same breath you praise it. The same with almost all your reviews. Gotta wonder if your complaints should be well considered or if your praises are just to appease the loaner.

    • @ElectricBikeReview

      Hi Gene! I do this because everyone has a different body. I strongly dislike this saddle, but it isn't a cheap part, and I suspect that some people have a better fit with it. My goal is to be objective and impartial... but I still sprinkle in some of my partiality because I like to do that, it's why I share my height and weight and preferences, my backstory etc. I'm trying to give both sides of a perspective when being critical so people are more informed :)

    This is a nice bike.... but the price..... I may be wrong but I think you'll see fewer views on videos where you -rightfully- post the (steep) price in the title. It's just difficult to see the value in a bike like this. At this price point, the engineering and ergonomics should be off the hook. I started the video... but quickly skipped to the motor overview and Ride test. Then went to the website and I wasn't really wowed. It looks like they use lots of off-the-shelf parts. I have commented on it before..... e-bikes are going to have a difficult time going mainstream with expensive boutique bikes like this.

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  4 года назад

      I think you're correct... my goal is to cover a broad cross section of interesting products, regardless of view count. Moustache did a great job with this line of bikes, and I chose to cover one of the premium models but also cover the Xroad 2 for $1k less. It's nice to have options! Are there any bikes or brand you'd like to see me cover?

    You want a battery handle but you also want less weight.

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  4 года назад +1

      Yep, and the PowerPack 500 vs. PowerTube 500 did exactly that. I'm guessing that if we could get a PowerPack 625, it would also be much lighter than the PowerTube 625 because of the casing design. I do like the clean look of PowerTube batteries, they just weigh so much more... Some companies have handles or straps (Trek and Riese & Müller respectively). I know Bosch can do a great job, so I try to communicate what I see as trade offs or misses in the hopes that they strive for more in the future.

    • @Bootrosgali
      @Bootrosgali 4 года назад +1

      @ElectricBikeReview  4 года назад

      @@Bootrosgali Yeah, the PowerPack 500 weighs about 5.7lbs and the PowerTube weighs about 6.4lbs completely naked. Many companies add covers, which further increases the weight... • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  4 года назад +1

      Yeah, the frame is pretty custom. They did a great job with strenght, and I suppose it costs a lot to have four sizes and two colors. They used the high-capacity battery, performance motor, and upgraded drivetrain (which all add to the cost). The fenders and rack are customized, and very nice. I'm sure they also paid more for that fork. You can get the same frame with lower end specs and the PowerPack 500 for $1k less, so this is really just the premium model in the Xroad series :)

      Well, I point out how to optimize the suspension here and praise the fork (because I genuinely think it's great) but definitely prefer a full suspension version... that's why I mention the option and showed the screenshot. The only reason I'd personally get a hardtail is to save money. For light trails and road use, a hardtail works great. Did you notice the part around 26:52 where I was riding over the grassy section? I actually had a lot more to say and commented on the discomfort of one particularly deep rut... but then I cut it because the video was 37 minutes long and I felt like some of it was a little redundant.
