Misha at the Nurburgring recently tested a convertible C8 and essentially said it was the best out of the box sports car he ever driven on the Nurburging. High praise, especially since before driving the car, he thought it was overhyped, but stated he was wrong, he was impressed.
@@JackMott the way the C8’s chassis was designed as a backbone design means there is really no structural difference between the convertible and coupe …..especially since the coupe is actually not a coupe but rather a targa roof

Corvettes are really growing on me. The C8 is a homerun for sure. It is even more impressive for keeping naturally aspirated. If you can make an engine make big power without forced induction, it is far more impressive to me than just slapping turbos on it. That makes it way cheaper too which is also a huge win.

I agree with a lot of your statements, However, in the USA, it's probably the sports car to have, but not on a global stage, necessarily. The price in Europe is significantly higher than in the US. So its competitive advantage shrinks. Regarding what car was tested; as others here, due to the timing of this video I was expecting the Z06 which was opened up for testers a few weeks back, around the same time the new GT3 RS was launched.
True, the cost benefit is only available in the US, just as the lower spec versions. European regulations also reduce the power and sound, the sub 3 second claim for example was often not reached in European tests, which is one reason why it didn't gained the same hype as in the US.
Yes but anndddd it speaks to how great the car is that the base vehicle is so exquisite. I own German cars and a Lexus and I’m telling you I’m itching for a base homologation like this. People, the fastest versions of sports cars are amazing AND have you ever driven a base 911 ? It’s amazing because you get to understand what underpins every version above it! Stripped back you get to feel chassis and body control and weight distribution with out anything altering the perception of the cars character, yes the super fast versions are great, AND I encourage anyone to drive base versions of sports cars, you’re gonna be surprised at how much fun you have. Just a different vantage point is all, definitely hope he does the z06 asap as well.
That`s how you have to judge "globally" based on its price in its domestic market. Too many things to consider outside its domestic market in terms of import taxes and demand. Just like a Corvette in Europe a Porsche coming into the US is going to come with added cost as well. A new GT3 in the US is going to set me back between $250,000 to $400,000 A base 911 $160,000+... A Z06 in most markets in Western Europe is going to come in around $130,000 which is still slightly less then a base 911 in those same markets.
@@trainerrob1622 But it's not just taxes that make the difference, in the US you can get it in LT1, 2 and 3, in Europe so far only in LT3. That alone raises the costs dramatically which puts it above 718 Cayman's and nearly equal to 992s. As mentioned the performance is not the same as in the US with 481HP and a 0-100Kph in 3.5 sec's. So you will be considering if it's worth 90-100+ k Euros, or if a well speced Cayman ia the better or faster choice?
All good points Gadgety. The EU tacks on $40K to the price of the base Stingray ($63K). At $100,000 dollars in price the Europeans have many more choices.
It’s great car and wonderful review. However checking prices on Autotrader they go for £120-130,000 with one dealer in Surrey. Those two factors will kill it. You have the Alpine way cheaper and the new Lotus Emira, plus all your Porsches and the Mustang which you can buy and service at any Ford dealer.
ah yeah but if Zora the "father" of the corvette would have gotten his way we would have had a mid-engine Corvette a long long time ago. but sadly GM/Chevy wouldn't let him. Stellar video guys .

As always great review Rory. I've some problem with your conclusion concerning price because with all taxes It will costs fortune in Europe.
Bring Him, Catchpole and Cammisa, we may get the perfect new Top gear World and the production of this show and hagerty
Hagerty already got Cammisa and Catchpole, we can only hope 🙏
What road was this filmed on?? I live nearby in San Francisco, and own a C8, I’d love to drive along that road if I knew where it was!
Nicely done as usual! I too was expecting the Z06. Looking forward to that review. Colorado switchbacks are great. Just sayin...
Every since I saw the 1979 corvette stingray I’ve loved the car.
Ford guy here, I really prefer the C6 in terms of rawness and aesthetics (yes the C6 looks better than the C8) but I do love the modernism of the C8.
50K I’d buy one in a heartbeat but by the time Clive Sutton gets it to you it’s 100K and then it’s got better competition.
I'd buy this in a heart beat if they weren't being sold for double the price they should otherwise be here in Australia..
Good luck buying one of these for MSRP. Try double and with a 2 year waiting list.....
Insane quality, and value for money, great review Rory!
