When you said: "The Queen lives next door, so it's super safe." I immediately imagined her being some sort of crime fighting vigilante. With a cape and sceptre, obviously.
Dickens supposedly had a deaf cat that would somehow put out his candle when it was time for bed. He was a workoholic and tended to forget to sleep when working on something. His cat would say 'nope, bed time mister!'
Well I totally didn’t read that as ‘dead’ cat at all…here I was thinking the ghost of his cat was still keeping him company long into the afterlife. Also the first image in my head a very disturbing taxidermy cat with a tail made into a handle like the cat itself became his candle holder… 🫥
Although I don’t live close to London, it’s really fun watching these videos and seeing you being so passionate about it. One day I’ll go and then I’ll look through all the cool places!
I live close to an outdoor living museum called beamish which is up north close to Durham and Newcastle. It’s a really gorgeous place and really makes you feel lol you are in the time period each part is portraying. There’s a 1900’s pit village and 40’s farm, 50’s farm, Victorian town with a few terrace houses (some of whose remind me a lot of some of the houses friends and family grew up in on my local village a few miles away) shops, including confectionary, mechanics, pub, bank, bakery and many others, most of which you can actually buy things from and there’s a park. The Victorian village also has a carnival that’s used in the summer and a train that takes you to the new (and still being built) 50’s town. There’s also the 1820’s pockelry old hall which is basically an old very high up farm with servants quarters which would once be run by quite a well off family then there’s the landscape around it and the 1820’s pockelry waggon way. All the different sections can be either walked to or you can cath the busses and trams to each section which are all from the different time periods. One of the things that makes it most like actually being in those times is that all the staff dress in accurate clothing for each sections time period and actually do the jobs and show you how each shop would have run like making the sweets in the confectionery shop. It’s one of my favourite places to visit. All of the buildings and area are either based on real places even down for eh actually original tiles being recreated like I’m the fish and chip shop in the 50’s town or the actual buildings were bought and moved to beamish and rebuilt in exactly the same way so everything is totally authentic 😁
@@LilyoftheLake14 the north is an incredibly beautiful place in general with loads of history if that’s what you’re interested in 🙂 of course all of the UK has lots of hydrogen but the england/Scottish boarder has the highest density of castles, keeps, towers and bastles in the whole of the UK because of the fighting between England and Scotland. I live in kielder which is only 2 miles from the boarder and just in a 30 mile radius there’s more castles than I can count on my hands. Some are still pretty intact and some are ruins and bastles are so common around here a lot of older farm houses people live in now have a wall or two which were from the original bastle 🙂 also we have Hadrian’s wall about 30 miles from kielder with lots of forts to visit 😁
Highgate Cemetery in London is a must. Very atmospheric and lots of historical figures buried there. There are loads of old kirkyards (churchyards) in Edinburgh; Greyfriars, Calton Hill and Dean being just three that I appreciated. Just yesterday, I visited Brookwood Cemetery in Surrey. It's probably the largest in the UK, has countless graves and burial grounds of different faith groups and families, and also has a huge military section that's interesting and very moving. You could spend all day in Brookwood easily.
