  • Start of something beautiful is one of my favorite songs of all time.
    The mixture of Groove, Melancholia and progressive elements is something really special to me. The shifts in time signatures are so fluid that I didn't even recognize them hearing this song as a teenager years back.
    This is just the instrumental section and the outro - I initially did this for Instagram, but since I decided to also upload some "smaller" clips here now and then I also want to share it with you.
    Have fun and ask questions, if you have some!
    In this recording I use:
    Tama Starclassic Bubinga Drums
    Tama Star Reserve #6 Snare
    Meinl Byzance, Pure Alloy Custom, and Classics Custom Cymbals
    Meinl Standard 5B Sticks
    Follow me on Instagram: simonschroederdrums
    I'm officially endorsed by Tama (Drums) and Meinl (Cymbals and Sticks)
    This is a Drum Cover of the song "Start Of Something Beautiful"' from the LP "Deadwing" (released 2005) by Porcupine Tree and is the copyrighted property of its owner(s).

    Good to see that somebody else enjoys the beauty of this part. Its maybe easy but it fits extremly good in the Song even it is always the same beat, it drives it forward. Genius.

    The next level of smooth! Truly amazing Porcupine Tree song, probably one of my absolute favourites as well. The groove flows so well that it doesn’t necessarily feel like it’s in odd time. You play this stuff extremely well, Simon! 👍

    Amazing! Where did you get the drumless version?

    • @SimonSchroederDrums
      @SimonSchroederDrums  Год назад

      Thanks!! This is not a drumless track - I just used a stereo EQ to lower the original drums in the mix. But you can still hear the original drums if you listen very closely. Cheers!

    Amazing! Love the sound of everything and your playing as well. the Hihat sounds incredible, what model is it?

      Thanks a lot man! Here I´m playing a 15" Byzance Dual Hi Hat - I also love the sound. It is very easy on the ears and dark sounding. But when you want you can get it to sound very aggressive too - I´m also using it with a Metal-Band on tour right now.

    Great job Simon! My favourite PT song. How are you recording? It sounds perfect. Are you going through any mic preamps or straight to interface? What interface do you use? Thanks! Wishing you well.

    • @SimonSchroederDrums
      @SimonSchroederDrums  2 года назад +1

      Thanks a lot David! I'm going directly to the Interface - I'm using an Audient ASP 880 and Audix D Microphones.
      I'm glad you like the sound! Cheers :)

    Playing openhanded, aren't you tempted to lower your hihat just to make it even more comfortable for your left hand? That's what I imagine I would do 😅 Amazing playing dude!

    • @SimonSchroederDrums
      @SimonSchroederDrums  2 года назад +1

      Thanks a lot! I had the Hi Hat lower a few years ago - I lifted it a bit because I wanted to have less Hi Hat on my Snare Mic and because I like to play certain patterns with the right on the hi hat.. so this position is the right balance for me. Cheers!!
