I HAD TO PURCHASE THIS CLASSIC CAR FROM AUCTION!

- Welcome back all,
In this weeks video I've got a bit of a secret to share with you all, as I purchased this car over 2 months ago! So here is my 1990 Mk3 Ford fiesta that only had just one owner up until 2022. The fiesta itself is in extremely good condition and has stacks of paperwork that back up and warrant the milage of just 54,000! As soon as I viewed this Mk3 at Letchworth Motor auctions, I knew I had to buy it! Considering the Mk3 Fiesta started life in Cheshunt, it's such a local car to me and I feel I really do own a piece of local ford heritage.
The fiesta doesn't come without its few faults, with the main one being the leaky sunroof. Also the car has no hub caps, which make it look incredibly ugly and I'm gagging to put a matching ford set of hub caps on the car! The fiesta was clearly tarted up for sale and there is white polish residue left all over the trims which will need to be removed.
I don't know what to do with the Mk3 Fiesta now I've purchased it, so it'll be going into dry storage over the winter months and we can have a think about the plans. Please do let me know what you think I should do with the classic fiesta!

Why buy a Mk3 Fiesta?? Why not? especially a low mile, well maintained one........ be mad not to buy it, especially at that price.
Answer me this, what "modern" car could you buy for less than 2 grand that will hold it's resale value???
Thank you! Exactly the thoughts that were running through my mind when buying this 😁
Mate I’m so envious, you have an old head on young shoulders. You know what to do with it, sort out the wrinkles = car show events. With the history of original documentation etc I think your parents did you proud by bidding a little over your original budget. Surprised with fees it didn’t push the total price to over 2k. Car is immaculate bodywise so rare for that age. Good luck whatever journey you decide to go on with the fiesta Mitch 👍From an ex Ford Mk 2,3,4 and 5 Cortina owner all the best and looking forward to seeing what road you take. 👌
Thank you pal! I’m very happy with the purchase and as you’ve said it would be hard to find one this clean again 👍🏻
@@Mk2Mitch have you flogged the Mark 2?
Love it Mitch. The first car I owned was a 96 mk3,1.1,white, 5 door fiesta. It was a fantastic little car.Only ever had to change a front light bulb on it.Still have a soft for them since then.Wish you all the best with that one!!
What a solid car. be a great base for an XR / RS rep. Or simply keep it as it is and enjoy the 1.0 HCS 😁 My first car back in 2003 was one of these on an L reg so it was an early 3.5. That sparked my love for Ford’s so the Mk3 Fiesta will always be a special car to me!
It's awesome ! I would suggest you to look very carefully behind the wheel arch wher there is the fuel cap and the bumper, it's a common spot for rust and yours seems to be intact hope it will keep being that way. You need to tighten up the front right spot lamp because it is wobly and that would be sad to loose on the road !!! Maybe an ajustement for the valves because they are lourd but appart from that congrats !
My mum used to have the exact model H165 CPX from new, sadly it had to be scrapped back in 2008 due to rot.
It didn't have the "luxurious" rear wiper though, she paid extra for a radio (no cassette) with 1 speaker. The original wheel trims are cream coloured lol.
Brings back so many memories and inspiration.
My first car was a 1994 Fiesta Si 16v, i still have it neglected in the garage since 2011. I should really sort the brakes and heater core out and get her back on the road!
Mk 3 fiesta.
My first ever car.
Great little thing that was.
Wish I knew more about mechanics back then.
Great video mate! It is so hard balancing getting enjoyment from driving it yourself to maintaining value with the low miles and condition. 🤷🏻♂️🤪
It's an awesome find 😊 Just found your channel, and loving it ☺️☺️
Glad your enjoying the channel! Lots more videos like this to come 😁
Takes me back to when we used to buy lots of these ex-motability Fiestas after they were returned to Ford main dealers. Some of them had been adapted for disabled drivers with hand controls, which made driving them back “interesting”.
My sister bought one of those from a local used car place, no adaptions, it was a frascati (nice green) had like 18k miles on it… at 10 years old. Still smelled new. 1.3hcs with the single point injection was actually pretty nippy as well.
Some cool memories you’ve shared! Hand controls must’ve been fun… 🤣
@@Jonathan_Doe_ 18k with 7 clutches 🤣🤣🤔
Ahh Mitch, you are so happy, keep all the cars you have mate. Fix em up how you want them and drive them when it makes sense. You have a good eye for a bargain and these cars will only go up, so its better than money in the stupid bank mate.
Thank you mate! I had to buy this little gem 😎
Good for you, lovey car.
Thank you!
Can't believe you got a 33 year old car with mot for that kind of money well done 👍
Thank you! When you put it like that it sounds even better 😁
I'm feeling old, I'm 40 and can remember these being brand new in the late 80s early 90s... thankfully I was very young back then!!
I had bought for me a M reg 1300 Fiesta for £895 (another story). Once home discovered the alternator was not charging.. Discovered a loose cable with no where to attach it to. The lucar male was missing. Fortunately managed to attach another in a very fiddly place with alternator in situ and once connected sorted. Ran very well with PAS and kept it for 2 years. Sold it for the same price. Cash back to the original purchaser. Great little car but not as good as my previously owned Renault 5 GTS. That little beast was A1 for many years.
Hub caps.. Now that's old school term for wheel trims.. I still say wing mirrors 😊 great channel dude..
Never too many!!!! Fiestas are just the best!!!
I can only agree with that statement!!!😆
Love the Chanel bud. Old school fords and a VW T4 😍 my type of stuff! Wicked 💪🏼
Glad your enjoying the channel mate 😁
Another great video such a nice mk3 fiesta proper base spec but that's what's nice about it
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video 😁
One of the most beautiful generations of Fiesta!
Nice car,,,, I remember my farther in law buying one "Ford's new baby" as it was advertised Mk 1 Fiesta in a dark brown, think it was a Y reg not sure but was mid 70s. It was one of the first Fiestas about around where they lived in Delamere. He bought it from Knutsford Motors in Northwich. 👍👍👍👍👍
This car is incredible, cant believe how clean and rust free it is, subbed
Thank you, I’m glad you liked the video! 😎
Nice condition, good find..nice that's it's still got dealer number plates and key ring too..i had same year,a police car came out of the station in a hurry and smacked into my rear quarter and spun me round🙄(and blamed me and was looking round it checking my tyres etc😡) managed to keep it after being paid out on insurance.
That engine bay is so clean👍
Thank you! I’m very happy with the condition 😎
Just found this channel I will definitely watch again
Thank you! Glad your enjoying the channel 😎
Highly likeable stuff
so nice car you get - l had XR2 in black . when l was living in London .after then l had got a Escort 2000. l am aFORD fan.good hope you keep it forever and happy driving.my name is Ken leung - now living in H.K. thanks.
Now this is what I like to see! Have to get both mk3’s together soon🤝
Oh yes 😁
Get it ready for next summer shows, definitely worth keeping 👌
I agree mate, just needs a good detail and a couple of bits sorting! 👍🏻
Wow that s a clean mk3, I never had one that rust free when they were 5 years old back in the day
Great buy 👌
Cheers John! 👍🏻
Great find! ;)
Thank you!
Absolute bargain there! I had a mk3 years ago, M reg 5 door (unfortunately) it was a special edition, turquoise blue met, twin airbags, glovebox with lid, and plush velour seats, I loved it, but the front and rear aprons under the bumpers rusted badly! Lovely familiar tappety engine to boot lol. You've got a good one there, once its tidied up it'll look like new!
I'm chuffed to see your latest acquisition fella. First thing to do, find a scrap escort or something with a 1600 CVH and 5speed box. Lift it all into the fiesta and wrap up the original tackle and stick under the bench. Laughing.. keep up the great content fella. ✌️👍🇬🇧
Hi love your new car keep up with the good video s 😊
Thank you, I’m glad you like the videos! 😎
Nice car used to spray loads of them when I worked in a bodyshop
Nice buy.... good lad💪🏼💪🏼
Cheers fella! 👍🏻
5:28. Best impression I've ever heard 😂
I like the think I’ve mastered that impression, heard the noise many times before 🤣
Great video👍🏻
Thank you mate! 👌🏻
Great car, well done.
Thank you!
Nice buy Mitch another one saved
Cheers mate!
Love it .
Looks a decent nice example and original good all round car
Nice wee car,you got a bargain there, enjoy putting the work in✌️😎✌️
Thank you! I’m very happy with the purchase, I think it’s a real time capsule 😎
You have landed lucky with this wee car well done mitch
Cheers mate!
Nice one mitch!! 😊 👍
Cheers mate!
@Mk2Mitch no worries mate love the work you and Lauren are doing on the t4 aswell as the escort 🙂👍
Absolutely stunning I am a little jealous I love it keep it and the van try and find yourself a garage or little unit to rent to keep them in if at all possible obviously I don't know what your circumstances are but I certainly do know that it would be so nice to keep all of your cars because they are all lovely examples I absolutely wish you all the best mate 👍🏻🚘
Cheers mate! I’m in desperate need of a unit but I’ve got some storage for now 🤞🏻
Watched those being built at Dagenham along with Sierras on a school trip.
Along with the plugs you'll find fresh HT leads, distributor cap an rotor arm will likely make all the difference.
The VV carbs usually had auto chokes and the replacement weber kits a manual choke.
That has been connected up presumably?
Hat's off to mum and dad for doing the business 👍
They done well! 😁
A great find; it looks like it has been well cared for. Just find the correct trims and it’s perfect. I’m not sure if the spotlights are original; the Bonus was quite a low spec, hence the 1L / 4spd engine. My first car was a 3dr Radiant Red like this but a 1.1L with a 5spd box G354XLT. The only difference outside was it has some grey rub strips down the sides.
Cheers pal! Sounds like you nearly had a identical fiesta to mine 👍🏻
@@Mk2MitchYes, I think the interior was the same trim as yours too. I never found some original trims sadly. The front and rear valances suffered from rust so I sprayed them grey to match the bumpers (like the mk3.5). I had an issue with it running on 3 cylinders and then I part-ex’d it for a mk4 3dr Radiant Red in lowly Encore spec.
I like to see the base models saved and kept original not tarted up to look like something they're not .
Exactly my thinking, won’t be modifying this one!
Ooh born salesman surely someone with the right money will help you decide lol great video m8 you deserve good money genuine guy and a decent car 👍👍
Cheers mate! The car will be staying for now but if someone offers me decent money I may be tempted to flip it!
Nice one Mitch looks like a nice little car 👍 I bought a brand new one of these back in the day lol and I actually looked at a 1.1 L automatic last weekend that was very tidy with only 38k on it but sadly he wanted far to much Money for it 3.5k so I walked away as to me personally that’s to much but each to his own but I’m still looking something will turn up …nice one fella 👌
Thank you pal! Yes I agree 3.5k is overpriced, I’d have to value this at £2,250-£2,500 I’d say 👍🏻
I found a Mazda 121 and was stunned, basically a fiesta rebadged as a Mazda, even had the ford 2001radio cassette,I was standing that long I drew the attention of the owner,we had a good chuckle about it🤣🤣
That’s very cool! Don’t see many of those Mazdas, must be rare now.
Love early mk3. 😎
Lovely car Mitch. Time warp condition, mileage etc. My mate had a red two door back in the day, G reg I think. I seem to recall the top end of the engine was a bit noisy (typical cross flow engine?) and also his engine used to weep oil onto the c/way. I seem to remember the metal for the sumps was imported from Spain and was a bit porous? I might be wrong with that, but it did stick in my nut. The bodywork condition is just fantastic. What a find and what a purchase. Best wishes to you and your family Mitch. John-EK.
yup,the oil pan/sumps rotted out, the sump plug would twist & split the sump, very common to see them bodged up with exhaust paste.
Thank you for the tips and advice John, I’ll give the underside a good looking over when I next get the fiesta out!
Looks like a clean example (the jack is facing the wrong way tho 😁😁) If havnt already I have mk3 videos on my channel of my car if your bored.
To start the car btw I have a procedure that works every time - choke out/ignition on, pump accelerator twice slowly, then hold half way down and start, let off when it fires - hope this helps.
I believe the bonus was a poverty spec with no rear parcel shelf and glove box so the spots may be an added extra from new
No quite… I believe 2 x pumps and no gas for cold start.. then warm start 1/4 to 1/2 pedal on till starts… sounds like you were flooding it! Great buy though all the same… I’m looking for stuff like that myself on new year 👍👍👍
@@dave320ssorry forgot to put for cold starts. Maybe I have been 🤔 I’ll try just x2 and key next time I start it see if starts better 👍🏻
That’s some brilliant information, I’ll check your channel out! Thank you mate 😁
My first car was an L reg Fiesta like this. Same colour with white pepper pot wheels. I tore the corner of the bumper off on a gate post and used mecano and duct tape to put it back together 😂. Think I paid about £300 for it and lasted a good few years. I also had a blue one with an xr2 body kit on which I sold for £100 more than I bought it. Always loved fords and still drive one - mk4 focus . Great vid, subbed
Thank you for subscribing to the channel! Great story, back when they were only worth a few hundred! 🤣
Good condition. Well done parents. Royston downs used well and the bi-pass 😂
You know it! 😎
Tidy find, Red can be funny what with sun bleaching.
Thanks again fella.
Yes I’ve got a eye on the paintwork, will get it all waxed and sealed! Thank you 😁
Keep it mate soon you’ll be the same as all us other car nuts and in to double figures lol love your latest purchase 👍
Cheers mate, it will be staying for now! 😎
It's amazing 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thank you!
What a find ! Keep it and rename channel MK2/3 Mitch 🤣🤣
Can’t beat a Fiesta, you got it for a good price, especially in that condition!
Cheers mate!
Good buy that especially having your parents bid on it !! That needs a set of centre caps or covers to keep it in the poverty spec it came as...
Oh yes, keeping it pov spec with some new hub caps!
Bang tidy good luck.
Thank you!
Looks decent, and pretty rust free. Nice one, probably dampness setting in a bit.
Thank you! Yeah the car doesn’t like the cold, glad it’s dry stored for now 👍🏻
I really like mk3’s, they are very underrated
quite well built those fiestas Mk3
I agree!
Had a 1.1 on a m plate back in the day. During the cold weather it would start but then stop about 100 yards up the road and wouldn't restart. Had to leave it a couple of hours and clean the spark plugs before it would start again.
Sounds very similar to the issues I was having! 👍🏻
Good find buddy, make sure you gap those spark plugs, sounds tappety so they are worth checking and do a quick compression test, all in all, looks a solid buy
Cheers mate! I did check the spark plugs and gaps were the same. I will be doing the tappets soon 👍🏻
Keep it original and make it mint. Nice project
Thank you! I plan to keep it original 👍🏻
You remind me of myself at your age I couldn’t stop buying cars I drove my parents mad 😂. Mine was was a mix of Fords and VWs too I still have 2 vans and 2 cars to this day not all drivable of course 🤣 I guess it’s an addiction we have mate
Hey Mitch I think that you should keep that Ford Fiesta Mk3 and you should let Lauren drive it too all the classic car shows around where you live I would like too see Lauren driving it.
That’s a good idea mate, I might just do that 👍🏻
Mk3 fiesta nice car😊
Thank you! 😁
Hello Sir , My dad had a MK3 1994 5 door 1.6 Si back in the day and we all loved it . If I was you now I would stick a 5 speed gearbox in and the it would be more useable .
That’s a great idea, I wonder if the swap is straight forward? 🤔
Blinding mate i worked on the fiesta line at dagenham when they were being built. the air filter housing is held on with four long screw bolts down into the carburettor underneath. that and some clips. a favourite on them if only used for short distances is for the breather tube to block. got to be worth 2k plus every day now. i had a H reg 1.1 five door in white. crack on
Hi mate, really interesting to hear you worked on the building line! I’ll check that breather tube, thank you 👍🏻
You my friend have a problem lol all the best to you lol looks like a lovely motor to be fair
Haha I know mate 🤣
Great motors, I wouldn't mind one myself. I'd like the mk3 SI but theyre rare now and can go for big money
Very rare cars now! Still go for reasonable prices though, you may be surprised 👍🏻
@@Mk2Mitch I keep looking dude, I still fancy your mk2 lol
I think you should make the fiesta a nice subtle resto mod and give it to Lauren👍😉
That’s a good shout mate! 😎
There is a great option here but it depends if you get to attached but you could sell both cars van and 2 door and trade up to something you always wanted !!!
Not a bad shout! I think I’m due a re-shuffle soon! 👍🏻
Great video, really enjoyable. Now, I love old Ford's, but I'm going to play devil's advocate so forgive me. I own a 1998 Nissan Micra K11 1.3 Si with only 35k miles (it was my Dad's who passed away in 2021) it develops 75bhp, 5 speed manual has a sunroof, is one of the most comfortable cars I've driven & would cost less than that Fiesta.
Now, just for the driving capability the Nissan is by far the better car, thoughts, opinions and hate I'm ready for it? 😊
Used to own a 1993 LX, all mod cons electric front windows, pearlescent paint, tinted glass, radio cassette. Central locking. My father in Law gave it to me, stainless exhaust and fully wax oiled from new. It was really low mileage, sadly got stolen and written off, loved that car.
That sounds like a lovely car! Such a shame it got nicked :(
@Mk2Mitch it was mint, not a spot of rust and very low mileage.
Like a kid in a sweet shop 😂
I know mate, need to control myself 🤣
Looks like a nice car!
I had a red Mk3 20+ years ago. Think it may of been a 5 door though.
Thank you! That’s cool, there were so many produced but not many left now 👀
I had a MK3 Fiesta sport edition
I'm wondering what the launch prices of the Fiesta Popular Plus 1.1 are or I want to know the launch prices of the XR2 models. I follow you from Cyprus, I watch you with pleasure.
“I HAD TO”.... 😍👌🏻 that’s my excuse 😂😂😂😂👊🏻
I just had to 🤦🏻♂️🤣🤣
Keep it.
Detail the hell out of it underneath so it looks like it just rolled out the factory, add the original hub caps to make it 100% Original then use it for shows in the dry.
It would add more value plus good content for your channel, when your done with it after a couple of years you'd be plenty in pocket ££ and you def wouldnt loose money as only going up in value.
I know what you mean about "too many projects" - I have 4 (2x mk1 fiestas & 2 x mk3 escorts) so not judging lol😂
I like your idea mate that’s a bit of me! Make it mint and keep it original 👌🏻 That sounds like you’ve got the same old school ford bug as me 🤣
@Mk2Mitch bug yeah, not what my wife calls it tbh, but plenty old enough to not give a s#%t what anyone thinks anymore lol
stunning motor, i would say rag it but with that engine, nah, sort the bits out and summer shows for that little beauty!
Cheers mate! Exactly my thoughts, just sort the few bits out and enjoy the originality 👌🏻
a red 3dr, that is just screaming out to be a RS turbo copy...
i was wincing as you got the plugs out, they were notorious for snapping in the head
that needs an oil change, then a dam good thrashing to re-seat the valves, then do the tappets, but make sure you use the right method [on the rock i think]
my wife begged me to get a 5dr for her + the kids [in about '95] then three weeks later decided it was too small, well i never, it's only the same size as a three door fiesta inside... women...
yes, i bought her a 5dr escort, but i made her wait 3 months...
Yeah the the the browning on the ceramic men's is losing compression through the plug
I would check the valve clearances, sounds very tappety, looks a good honest car though
I’ve got a 1.1 lx with 6122 miles from new it’s a Wedgwood blue one
These used to be absolutely everywhere when I was growing up and they kind of just disappeared overnight. I have a 957cc Mk2 Fiesta and that size engine should never have been fitted to the MK3...
Nice one! I’ve got a Mk2 fiesta too but a 1.1 😁
SUPERB find.... I owned two MK3 Ford Fiesta's back in the day (Had four Ford Fiestas in total over the 34 Years I have been a car driver)
Good little car ..DIY servicing and is cheap to run... Why would you NOT want to buy it..
I am not sure which was the best ever Ford Fiesta.... It is close between the MK 2 and the MK 3.
The MK 3 Ford Fiesta is a good choice for a classic car... OK with just 44bhp and a 1.0 Litre engine, It is not going to win any drag races against a modern car ..But who cares?
I am 52 years old and have been a "Car person" since I passed my driving test in 1990.. when I was 18.
For a young guy..You have a smart head on you ... Please do NOT run this car on 95 octane E10 fuel .. Use 97/99 octane E5 fuel...
It is only a few pennies more per litre... It is ALL my Toyota Celica runs on... The car will thank you for it.
Thank you for this video.
EDIT... If you ever fancy a cheap car..The MK 7 Toyota Celica (1999-2005) is often overlooked...I highly recommend them. You can get good examples for around £4,000.
Servicing and previous service history are paramount important on them, however.
DOUBLE EDIT... Steer clear of Vauxhall Corsa VXR's ..They have ALL been thrashed to oblivion. You never see genuine examples come up for sale. and when they go wrong...They go WRONG!
Just like the Ford eco-boom engine. Sorry Ford eco- Boost engine.
If you feel under the front seats you will find 2 plastic type screws, undo these with a small screwdriver the bottom part of the seat will come off.......normally like a moneybox in the plastic base
Brilliant thank you for that, I’ll be repairing the seat cloth soon!
Can you have too many cars???
Love this car, well done getting it.
Leave the wheel trims off - looks better like it is 👌
Now that’s the million dollar question! 🤣 I’ll buy some trims and see what I prefer, or perhaps I’ll spray the steels silver?
Good find/buy there bud ,now get it cleaned underneath and waxoiled
Cheers mate! Oh yes, the Mk3 Fiesta will be getting some protection 👌🏻
Keep it nice car worth the money , use it for summer if you have storage . It can only go up in price.
My thoughts exactly! 👍🏻
