Great video and review as usual Paul. They look so beautiful in that all black. Also that pouch is quite fancy too. Also the entire cable along with the connectors is black too, so good 😄. Also the bassy sound is something I might enjoy. 🙂
I actually have this set already. TonyTex did a review a earlier, I took one look at the FR graph and took a chance on it. It reminds me very much of my Penon Fan2. For the price the Dufu is hard to beat, for this style of tuning done well. A great review and a keeper set for me for sure.
Interesting. I never heard a Penon but now that you say that, I can see it. At least looking at the graph, looks a bit more V-fun over the Fan 2, some people will dig that.
@@sdm789 the FuDu is a little more V shaped and fun sounding. I actually prefer it for day in and day out use. That being said, I’m sure the drivers in the Fan2 are higher quality and the overall bill quality is higher with the included case and such. I don’t think the Fan2 is worth three times price imho.
Great review.👍 Is this a good upgrade to the TRN ST5? Or maybe jumping in price range to Yume Ultra or Kara territory instead? BTW, I like that you mention if the iems work best at lower or higher volumes. It's very helpful.
Almost falls in the different category than better. I think its better but yeah, don't chase too many sub $100usd sets, you will spend more than just jumping up to Yume or something else that comes along.
How does this compare to the Tripowin x HBB Kailua and Blon x Zeos JoJo? I’m looking for an upgrade to my blon bl-03 and want something that gives me the similar body of bass and relaxed signature of the Bl-03 with a bit of an upgrade of technical performance.
nice review, one of the few who appreciated the features anyway, most of the reviewers almost rejected it for lack of technicalities, which fudu doesn't want to do, and it was created for a more pleasant and relaxed purpose! have you by any chance had the opportunity to compare it with kiwi quartet?😊🤘
Sorry, I never heard Quartet. You are 100% correct though, in this style, its a great set. Maybe that style is not your thing, but no need to crap on it because you prefer leaned out tech sets. For some reason I click with Tangzu's ideas and hope they stick with what they like.
Yeah that is about right, Fudu is skewed heavier and lower which is basically the opposite change from OG Wu to Heyday. I never heard the original Wu but I'd guess it is much closer to Fudu. I'd guess all 3, Wu, ChangLe, and now Fudu reflect that same genre bias or Tangzu house prefrence
and given that somewhat warm leaning house sound of tangzu, the upcoming tribid might be a bit different flavor to what i've seem in the market. nice one paul, ty as always.
Hey Paul, probably asked a variant of this question in a different video. So apologies 😅 But just re-watching this coz i've had time to listen to my recently arrived Sonus. I really loved it actually! Just a great and worthy step up from my 7hz Zero and Wan'er. But this has also made me realise that I really do want to give a more relaxing and comforting tuning a go. Coz even if the Sonus really is quite balanced and not necessarily shouty or too bright, there are still times when I just want something a little warmer. I have a Z300 coming for this purpose. But, i was wondering if the FuDu would be a worthwhile addition to my rotation, or does it become redundant with my Z300? I'm also still tempted by the Zero Red, but I feel like my current sets cover a similar sound already. Thanks as always Paul!
Yes, but wait for the Z300. The warmth part of the Sonus bass shelf is low which was great for clarity and allowed that relaxed treble, but missing that actual warmth that you get in Fudu. I'd still wait for 11-11 sales, should be quite a few sets coming out in a short period of time also. Also watch Hidizs MP145 if I didn't mention that before, one of the warmer planar sets.
@@PaulWasabii thank you for all this info! Just got the Z300 last night and used it the whole day at work today. Liked it a ton! And a nice change of pace from my usual more neutral and brighter sets. It did make me realise that, so far at least, the Sonus type of tuning really is my most preferred one. But also that I am happy I got the Z300 for when I need to actually use my brain at work and just enjoy music without it being distracting. Side note, I think what surprised me the most about the Z300 is that the treble is still present. I guess I expected a much darker sound? But a welcome surprise! And yes, I will definitely hold off on the Fudu for now. I still wanna get it in the future, but at a much lower price. I've been drooling for the MP145 since I saw reviews! I was 100% certain I was getting myself an S12 this Christmas as my first planar. The MP145 is now making me second guess myself 😅
@KmtS9 I’m the opposite of your preference, I’ve both the Sonus and the Z300, I prefer the latter. I’m actually eyeing the Kailua, Quartet, and Simgot EM6L as my next upgrade. Just haven’t decided on which just yet.
@@cliffordchan. Totally get where you're coming from! I actually really love the Z300. My go-to for working, as well as when i'm wanting to relax. I consider my Sonus as my active listening set. Though i can also use them when working but at lower volumes. There's just an open-ness and separation to the sound of the Sonus that makes me gravitate towards it for my music. But i do think more people will generally appreciate the Z300 tuning, and i don't blame them! Hell, that's why i'm considering the Fudu, or as you are, the EM6L. I don't think you can go wrong with the Quartet or EM6L! Will probably depend on which treble presentation you prefer.
@@cliffordchan. I’m a little late to the party here 🤣. I have the Z300 and, for my ears, they get pretty uncomfortable. The tuning is definitely bass heavy and easy to listen to, but there’s not much in terms of detail retrieval. I got he FuDu for Christmas, and I can promise that the detail retrieval is much better and there’s less thumpy bass than the Z300. The FuDu is just a delight for both comfort of listening and wearing to me.
It is interesting as Fudu comes off a bit thicker due to the upper mid level. That point at which female vocals work on Olina or Oxygen or most Harman style, are a notch down on Fudu. Some people are super sensitive to that. Kinda why I say Fudu is more fun. I think Olina is still the mid point between Fudu and EA500/EM6L which bumped the upper mids. Fudu would be at the lower upper mids and that shifts the sound lower, more bass emphasis and away from those female vocals. Same on the volume, Fudu at lower volume sounds like even less upper mids which is going to throw people off. Same on the upper treble, a bit more bass presence makes it harder to get into air when there isn't a higher upper treble level. All these things magically come together on Olina.
I have something smooth and bassy in the Tri HBB Kai. I was wondering how this one compares to that set? They are supposedly both relaxing and bassy. Is Fudu richer or slightly improved in any way?
In the same style, tweaked a bit, but going to be a sidegrade unless you want a bit more treble extension. I'd EQ Kai if you want that rather than chasing a new set.
hey paul, graph wise this tangzu fudu verse 1 is very similar to the KZ-ZVX except a bit at upper mids and treble which may be insignificant, so what do you think I save a couple bugs and go with the KZ-ZVX ? please 🙏 kindly respond, thank you.
Quick answer is no, ZVX is quite a bit brighter as there is energy around 8K, that isn't just coupler resonance. Some people would prefer a brighter Fudu as it comes off warm and not the most extended. But I wouldn't say the two are the same as ZVX was before KZ had better treble tuning methods
Hi, i would like to but the Tangzu Fudu or the Kiwi Ears Quarter but.... I can also by the Penon Audio Fan 2 for €100. Is the Penon a bit better compared to those 2?
I had the Quartet and have Fan 2 now. Fan 2 is way better. You need to get a good fit though, very important on Fan 2. Very long nozzle, so I needed to go down a size in eartips to get a deep fit. Haven't heard Fudu yet but it looks very interesting. Doesn't seem to have any issues with the fit, maybe safer buy than Fan 2.
I think the quartet is more fun than the fan2 and has more treble excitement. Also it’s a lot more comfortable (spinfit w1 tips). Fan 2 is a balls deep fit like an etymotic, so you’ll need good deep fitting tips like spinfit cp360, tri clarion or divinus velvets.
Yes, for people who are attracted to warmer, midbassy sound, absolutely. Simgot works the upper range, but Fudu and Blon BL03 will be very engaging to people who like that thicker, warmer sound.
I'd say Tangzu's priority was smooth warm sound first and that. most of the time, runs counter to those technicals. If you are a treble technical type, then you hear those more in EW200 as its boosted, Fudu is relaxed. If your priority is techs, Fudu is not the choice, its for people who prioritize that warm, smooth, not bass lite or bright sound.
I think the hardest part of Zero:Red is both ends, the bass and treble levels. It tries to really focus on the mids and people can figure out from the graph that the bass level is brought down, but the treble level is as well and that wasn't expected. For bass driven music or preferences, that is what Fudu is good at, full warm mids. Red is more like cleaner, just enough warmth, more focused on upper mids and females.
Sonus vs Fudu is just preferences, Fudu is warm and smooth, full bass. Sonus is cleaner, leaner, more technical sound. Which is better is a matter of which you like.
@@PaulWasabiithanks - do you mean “technical” as a stylistic (relative perceived) difference or that the Sonus has better quality technicalities (performance on res, imaging, staging etc.)?
