Hey Calder! I love your videos and the format how you present them and I feel I've been learning a lot from you already - thank you so much for your work and teachings! :) I was wondering if you could share some tips about singing in a similar style as The Cure's Robert Smith. I'm getting better at finding my mix, reaching higher notes singing a lot with a few of my favourite singers, but I always struggle with RS' Voice and can't reach high notes the same way, when I'm singing other bands songs containing the same pitches. Maybe it's still a problem with my larynx, but I always sound way too thin and can't reach the pitches anyway when trying many Cure songs. Admittedly, Open and Doing the Unstuck aren't very easy songs to begin with.
Ok yeah maybe I can have a look at this. The issues you speak of are as old as time and all the sake as most other singers trying to work it out. So take some strength from that. Feel free to send me a message or remind me of this request. I do intend to do some videos looking at clips of singers and stuff .
I wish could be that free in that kind of register. Do you think it's possible for a big lump with a heavy baritone (and a head voice that sounds like it belongs to a different person than the lower register) to ever get that easy with these notes?
Yes !! Believe me, it’s not an easy journey but it is possible . Have to learn when and how to let go and start blending , mixing , usually lower down than you think. Trust this process, get fine tuned to the sensations when you sing. So much of it will seem normal until you realise it’s actually trapping and straining the voice . I’ve been through it all, had an operation, battered it after recovery. I’m here to say you can learn how to use it way better. Hopefully without destroying it in the process like me!
@@singingmatterscalder thanks Calder, I appreciate the encouragement. I have the last of a block of lessons with someone local to get through (they’re more classical / show themed as I live on the tiny island of Jersey and there aren’t many options), but when I finish up with her I’m going to book a block with you 🙏🏻
This is great! Please do more of these, hardly any one breaks lines/vowels of actual songs down like this on RUclips.
I love this video. Beautiful ❤️. I’m going to learn this song and apply what you are teaching us. Love your voice
Thank you for sharing!
You should definitely upload covers! It would be a good hook. Many vocal teachers don't do it.
Awesome, makes perfect sense as always. Looking forward to my first lesson to try to put theory into practice 👍🏻
Fantastic!
brilliant. and we are always our own worst critic, aren’t we? thank you for the fantastic video!
Man..
For the first time ever I hit that high note without flipping into falsetto
Very tenuous creaky chest, but undeniably chest
Thanks
This is amazing I’m so pleased to hear it
Loved the creaky door video. Big help.
But, my worry is sounding too nasally/tinny, borderline country twang.
nice video man, nice tutorial! Can you do a tutorial on how to sing night train by GNR?

@@rickjones641 well that sounds great and I look forward to hearing from you !
Nice
My band picked that song, just to annoy me I think.
Impossible for me to sing those verse. Too high.
