  • Cascading Crystal Kaleidoscope (CCK) is a classic climb (rated 5.8 PG13) at the Shawangunks (Gunks) cliffs in the state of New York. Over several years, my friend and I climbed this awesome route. During those climbs, I captured tons of video using my GoPro. This video compilation concentrates on the third pitch of CCK - certainly the most difficult and dramatic.

Wow, they renamed the climb and thats probably appropriate. It was around 1978-79 when my wife and I climbed the east coast through New England areas. So loved the limestone there. We were granite and sandstone folks. I consider CCK as one of the most classic fun climbs, for sure. But if you know the answer, I have long lost the guidebook, we belayed under the roof and did the roof direct. Actually it was not hard as I expected and many buckets but not much protection, but more than enough pucker factor.. Thank you for sharing it brings back so many fond memories. I still have som great 35mm slides of my wife seconding, classic photos. You did a great job filming.

Enjoyed that route before cams and sticky shoes when it was a 5.7. But that was over 45 years ago. Probably upgraded now. Still a nice piece of rock.

This is the pitch one of the best the gunks has to offer first time I did it was with Mark Robinson and Tom Mason and the fall of 1972. Have climbed it a number of times since we'll never get tired of it. And The View, if you ever get tired of The View go climb indoors

Nice job. I followed on that route once. One day I'll do it again!
