Thank you for your video! Question - So you don’t have to worry about the original sewn signatures falling apart, because you are leaving a few millimeters of the removed pages? My concern was that if I removed too many pages it might hurt the overall integrity of the book. The one I have is much older. From the 50s. Thank you.
Hello, great video! Especially the bit about leaving some of the cut page to help reinforce. I'm wondering if there might be a way to combine this with the expandable cover? I have a huge hard cover atlas (about 13x18 in) I want to use. It's 491 pages and right now 2 inches thick at the spine. I would love to make it into something expandable but not sure if leaving the signatures in will work? Thanks for any help!
@@rootpursuit Thank you, okay okay... if i remove the front and back covers, leaving the spine and signatures in tact (minus the pages i take out) and then reattach the covers with added fabric -maybe even a canvas weight fabric since the book is so large- that could work. Then i could also add pages back in if i wanted, using linen tape or something! Thanks again! :)
Thank you for this video. My RD books only had glued in pages so I needed guidance regarding gutting the book enough to make a journal.
Fantastic!
Thank you! I love RD but hadn't tried because of the sewn in signatures. Very helpful tutorial!
Thank you and happy crafting!

I have a number of these I have made and they have no problems with falling apart.

Perhaps you could remove the spine and signatures - add the expandable fabric - then reattach! It’s an interesting experiment!

Love it
Thank you!
This seems like such a strange way to make a journal..... so much extra work.
Why Readers Digest specifically?
They are inexpensive and generally readily available, plus they have a sturdy and attractive spine.
I have reader digest old book if you interested comment down below
Oh my goodness that is so kind. I do have a big stack of them already! I appreciate you thinking of me though! You are great! Happy crafting!!
