Its so relaxing satisfying to watch professionals work at their craft. Great job.

I love watching these videos, hopefully in the future I would've learned enough to do some concrete work at a future home.
I'm sure you will
I know what you mean, I actually did use some of his tips when doing some small concrete repairs with my son.
yes you can learn A LOT from watching this channel and other youtube. (even tho old timers will say you can't learn from youtube, u can, haha)
But just remember this, concrete is like no other trade you cannot just pull out your nails and move a stud to a different place when u make a mistake. You can't take a break and there are no do overs.
Be sure to have A LOT of hands on practice before you take on any "finished" projects!!
"Hi, by watching this video you have agreed to our terms and conditions written in section 2 paragraph 22.
According to our rules after watching our video you are only supposed to hire us to do your concrete from now on. Thank you."
Hire a professional. You only get ONE shot at it. You screw it up and its that way for 100 years unless you jack hammer it out.
I really enjoy the narration on your videos. Feels like I am taking a class. Really love how the stairs came out.
Awesome, thank you!
Thank you David, adding music at 6:38 was just right and added to the enjoyment of watching the work!
TY
The fact that you show and explain these videos, for me, really shows your integrity.
A fine example of letting the work speak for itself.
Much Respect, Many Thanks Mr. Odell and the team.
A picture is worth a 1000 words.
I'm glad to see you guys pulling your steel UP.
I like to use chairs
But I've seen other RUclips concrete men who aren't pulling their steel off the dirt, or Styrofoam
They do nice work but leaving the steel on the bottom of the pour defeats having steel
Nice work sir, keep pulling your steel
Sure
TY
Came for the 50% horsehair brush. Was not disappointed. Great job.
It works magic
Stroke of magic
The stairs look exquisite
TY
I dig these videos. Wish I would have known you earlier, 4 years ago, I would have had you do my entire outside house!
Me too
TY
First I like, then I enjoy watching.
TY
Steps look real good. Nice work fella's!
TY
Your team makes it look easy, but it’s hard work for me.👍
It's hard for everyone
Love the way you explained everything that was going on. Cool video :)
TY
YW
Fantastic work well done men...
TY
I love that pole trowel. It cuts the work by about 66%. I even broom behind it, depending on the situation.
Yes it can be done
@@OdellCompleteConcrete that’s how u do it in Australia stick trowel, or trowel machine, knee board only when have to.
those steps look incredible.
I concur
TY
Your Vid's have more Content than some TV Shows, good Work 👍👌😎
TY
An admirable job fellas. 👌🏾
ty
Great job💪💪👌👌
Wow good job guys
TY
I love your work subscribed and watching from the UK, keep up the good work..
I will
TY
I think that would have looked really good with a sand wash finish.
Still can be with a sand blaster
Nice work!
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice stair pour, but that top level riser hole had me bugging out he never floated it out..
The broom will cover it
Awesome video 😁.
Thanks for the visit
Another master class!
TY
You guys are really amazing...what you do, voila!
TY
2:35, two-manning a 6-foot rod, cracking me up
The easy way
I always wondered how they did those lines in concrete.
Now you know
I am starting to fall in love with concrete. I think all people before getting married should get married to a life-size statue made of concrete and see how long the marriage last, before marrying a human.
Sounds like forever
🤨
Awesome Dave
TY
That looks awesome.
good looking 3000 -
TY
Keep it up, a job well done 👍
TY
pretty work thankyou and stay bless n keep it moving bra
Sounds good
You too
No honeycombs,no stucco 0.0those steps are a true beauty great job👍 .Your muds grade A too!!!
Thanks 👍
You have a ribeye out of chuck
Every time I see a concrete video I get reminded of why i'm so glad I do electrical.
I hear that
Yeah man , a lot of people arent built for it
@@antstrickland9905
For sure
It's brutal
@@OdellCompleteConcrete its MEN like us that keep the world spinning , good brother
It is because you have to be a man in order to deal with concrete.
Damn, this is so professional. Great work! :D
ty
Beautiful work mate. What's your mix? Did you use a normal cement or a fast set one?
Wonder what's the time you took the form off the stairs? About 2 hrs? Temperature about 10 degree? Many thanks.
Two hours. The temp was 70 degrees. Mix design 3250 psi straight cement
beautiful to watch professionals work concrete -- pure art. Thank you for a great video. Someday I will increase my DIY skill level.
Thank you very much!
some finishers leave the finish part out of concrete thats old school nice job
TY
krasna praca
TY
Great pour but the hole in the top riser on the steps makes me want to jump out of my skin
I was thinking the same thing. The finisher kept working over it and didn't fill it in.
@@larrykeenan598 proly will barely notice it once it cures though.
You need to add some "50% HORSEHAIR, 50% NYLON" t-shirts in your store
Good one
Lol you lost your tool in the concrete there bud @2:24 😂😂😂
he picked it up
👏👏
Do you prefer the plastic/fiber glass knee sliders over the steel ones? I’ve only ever used the steel ones but often wonder if the other ones are more comfortable? Easier to move in? I notice they’re wider, does that help to dig in less?
Yes I think the fiberglass ones are better
@@OdellCompleteConcrete thank you! I’m gonna have to get some now
Could radius steps been an option there? Seems they would of flowed nice in that corner. Is a railing needed?
Yes a railing would be nice
The steps appear shallow
Is there a standard and is their reason for going below the standard?
14"
nice
TY
I think it would be nice to shout out your employees from time to time. They seem like hard workers and know why they are doing.
Yes they do know what they're doing. When I see consistency in there effort I will shout it out.
@@OdellCompleteConcrete as a business owner myself I long for the “consistent” effort from my employees.
Imagine if your air pods fall in the cement? I've seen people drop theirs into a puddle.
They may be gone
how long do you wanna wait until you remove your forms on the slab ?
2 to 4 hours depending on conditions
Very nice! Is it okay to lay concrete in the Winter (Atlanta, GA)? We want to expand out patio...
Yes if it doesn't flood or freeze
Great video, really like how the stairs came out!
Me too
TY
Easy money...
OSS
Do you ever consider purchasing a volumetric mixer truck?
Yes
your voice look like president TRUMP, best president in the world
I think we will be able to verify that without a doubt in the next 4 years.
What length do you use for spacing this specific concrete's joints? Also I'm assuming this is PCC?
8'
Why do a trowel and float become "funny" when a pole is attached, but an edger becomes a "walking" edger when a pole is attached? Serious minds want to know! 😁
Good point
I don't know
An edger can be rigidly fixed to an extension handle, making it a walking edger. You physically have to move the handle up and down when pulling and pushing to consolidate the aggregate. Rockers aren’t used because it messes up the surface plane when you twist the handle of it in wet concrete. When its hard enough you just slide where poles cant reach anyhow. Funny trowel or float will be able to articulate on the (X) axis in the forward and backwards direction. Crazy trowels can articulate on the X and Y, i don’t think a crazy float would work well due to the concrete being more workable, it would just get stuck and dig a hole trying to get it out. Crazy trowel is like a honey badger, hard to handle and doesn’t give a 👍 the concrete must be fairly hard and i believe they were designed for those crazy areas where the grade breaks can be difficult to trowel by hand, like a skatepark.
“Crazy trowel” has one more axis to rotate on compared to a funny trowel.
Interesting
@Dave Odell, you should do a video on dos and don'ts. For example when you should use dowels, expansion foam, rebar, fiber mesh and any other insider info that you can think of. Thanks for the great content as always.
Great idea
Are those stairs not uniform? They look like the risers are different heights
I noticed that also.
Fish eye camera
If that was my place i would of put radius steps there, and you wouldn't need a railing.
The bottom riser is higher because it goes down into the bottom pour. When the bottom pour is done, all the risers will be of equal height.
I always thought concrete stairs must be hollow. I guess not. If you have a super high set of stairs it must take a lot of concrete.
You can fill with other materials
@@OdellCompleteConcrete I'm sure that would save money
Nicely done, how long do you leave the wood to the steps before taking it off..
1 hour to two depending on the weather
Your narration is so relaxing, I nerded out watching this, this was cool, thank you.
Ty
Wat iscthe spliting concrete too colled and if You could give me a link: the finush left ivwr is impecabile!!!...🤗
May i ask what is the purpose of the lines that are made in the concrete? is it for optic only or it has any other purpose too? I'm from Europe so this is interesting for me
Crack control
Could I use recycled concrete from the old stairs to fill in the area?
Yes, I have done that
@@OdellCompleteConcrete thank you for answering super fast
Very nice- thankyou- you guys make it look easy- I can tell you it’s not.
I concur
TY
I hate concrete but it looks good when freshly poured.
TY
So much better than others. you're the best in the west!
TY
I was a sub for 20 years and I gotta say, you run a tight crew!
Get it on
TY
What is the hourly rate dollar range should you pay a worker?
Minimum wage works
@@OdellCompleteConcrete The minimum wage for hourly employees in California is now $15.50.
I just moved to Newport Beach! As a journeyman I can say I’m qualified to tell you “looks pretty sweet!”
Awesome
@@OdellCompleteConcrete
and as guy that doesn’t know jack sh** that has lived in the same place almost my whole life I am not qualified to tell you “looks pretty sweet”
trying to figure out why they'd call it a 'funny trowel'?....people making funny faces in the concrete with it?
me too
Because its a hand trowel converted to accept a pole
@@OdellCompleteConcrete oh thanks for reply. great clarification 👍🏻👍🏻
for the steps, my Dad always taught me to bevel the riser form to allow to allow to finish the back, and the riser should be cut back by 1/4" from bottom of riser to top to prevent heel scraps. My Dad was a pro at concrete, I wish I knew how to do it now.....
That's quite dark mud. No integrated color?
Aussies call anything on the poles, 'stick', float, trowel, edger, etc... I'm not Aussie...
Haven't worked with any Aussies, but worked with people from all over this Country
Awesome work! I’ve been binge watching this channel since a video came across my page.
I noticed the rebar was not in the lower level as shown in the first videos part. I’m wondering how come?
I keep looking at the top step right that little hole
I didn't notice it
@@OdellCompleteConcrete You and your crew are the only ones who didn't notice it...LOL
Im saying in my head hit the spot as the video played. 😂
instead of beating in that 3/8 rebar why not just drill a 1/4" hole and use 2x 16 duplex nails?
That works, but my smallest bit was 3/8 that day
I see. yup I've had those days too haha. gotta do what you gotta do
No WOC this year I suppose ?
Correct, not until June
Nice work but I would not recommend edging against the expansion at the wall... The edge at the wall is a spot for rainwater to stand. The expansion is not lifetime or weatherproof.. here in the Midwest it would freeze and cause problems..
Tou may want to caulk it to prevent water infiltration
around 4:00 mark you say you don't need to do tapping. How do you do that?...I didn't catch it in the video. Do you simply tap the forms with a blunt object a couple of times?
Yes
What are the pro's and con's of putting some expansion material between the existing outside wall and the new stairs? I'm surprised you poured right up to the wall.
With no paper we actually stabilized the wall
Wow amazing. What is the ration of your mix, and is it recommended for an outdoor slab in a very tropical climate areas?
Everyone talks about Michelangelo and the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, but who did the floor is what I wanna know.
Good point
Me too
Nice
higher level of finishing .... it drives me crazy... always waiting for the next.. congrats

Despite all the good and great wotk done by the crew.. why u guys leftout the dirt under the stairs? and why their is no concrete spacer?
No need. When petfect
Easy float
yes

You should try attaching a go pro to the trowel, that would be cool. I hope I spelled trowel right, I don’t know anything about concrete, but I always watch these videos
Good idea
Great craftsmenship. I knopw from personal experience how hard it is to work with concrete.
What you called a funny tool, can also be called a swivel resurfacing extension tool.
awesome never heard of that one
perfect , i worker for many years in this industry but i never see so well finished , how much you charge for this job 7000 usd
4500
I love grass, not concrete. Concrete create too much heat in the summer but a great lawn....you can roll on it
Possibly
It would've been nice if you had shown the complete pour for the steps.
Yes
people say I dont like work.. I really do like watching though..
Makes sense
