  • Just look at that low angle camera shot from behind Dave Bergman.
Any bit of media that puts Tiger Stadium's left field count-board out there for homage and appreciation is most certainly welcome. And with the Tigger's forever-shortstop turning the trick, evading a heat-seeking Rick Cerone, a baserunner who was way, way, WAY out of the basepath and beyond reasonable reach of second, man, it's all such a pretty scene.
Now, true Tigers fans of the era may feel a little pang that the guy feedin' Trammell wasn't Sweet Lou. But if you're a Jays fan of a similar vintage, Jim Walewander at second is a memory of a time when it seemed that Sparky and his Tigers had all the answers. When your team gets tripped up in the last two series of the season, when that deed is done through contributions made by minor league dudes like Walewander and Lusador, well, it's just damn hard to let that sh!t go. Walewander dishin' to the shortstop, who then relayed to a longtime bench player covering first (a fella who was enjoying a great season at the dish in '88), is as 1980s as cassette tapes, giant-assed satellite dishes, Sonny Crockett pastels, and the fading-in/fading-out of an AM radio signal.
    Oh, it pretty af.
Love this era of the game.
These 480p uploads take the old baseball fan in me to places I hadn't thought about in thirty-plus years.

'88... A wonderful year in many ways.
