How cruely ironic that the creatures literally called "Living Failures" are the ones to finally achieve connection with the cosmos itself.
TRUE
And nobody was around to see it
While that is somewhat a good thing, they’re called failures because they weren’t able to get into contact with the great ones
@@harpi8887 i like to think that in the end they were able to comunicate with the cosmos, even if in the nightmare ( when they raise their arms and open the portal to the cosmos praying for help)

+1 Insight.
They're the boss I died to the most in my first regular run, counting the entire base game and DLC. Second were the Shadows of Yarnham
@@sazechs_451 I saw a bunch of people having trouble with them. They weren't THAT bad. If you weren't paying attention, yeah, they'd wreck your shit, but, the multiple enemy boss fights are all about pacing yourself and taking 1 target down at a time. Pick 1 and worry about cutting him off from his help. Did that with Living Failures, the shadows, the demons in the ringed city.
I always looking at the Living Failure's reaching towards the heavens as them begging for help from forces unknown, then music kicks in when their prayers are answered.
“The Great Ones that inhabit the nightmare are sympathetic in spirit, and often answer when called upon.” -moon glyph
Then their big flower stops the forces from ever hitting you
That's literally what they are doing
Trying one last time to get a sign from higher beings in the cosmos and finally getting answered after all their other attempts failed
@@Lopeped-Cring It's really sad when you think about. But at least for that boss fight they received some beautiful celestial assistance. I like watching people fight Living Failures on BL4 runs (the equivalent to SL1 runs in Dark Souls games) because then they don't get to kill them too fast. It sucks when you're watching a youtuber fight Living Failures and they kill them before they can fully appreciate the second phase part of this soundtrack.
Absolutely love the implication that the Living Failures finally succeeded at achieving attunement with the Great Ones (when they send down the meteors) right before their second death in the Nightmare, but it does raise the question as to why they weren't able to do it before they were killed off the first time.
Performance anxiety
My assumption has always been that their lives have never been threatened in that way before. They may have died but they were never slaughtered. So I always assumed it was their fear that drove them into it
I honestly think that they did succesfully ascens, and so no one could communicate with them. So when asked to commune with the great ones they wouldn’t. They just do it whenever they feel like it.
That picture is really cool and fitting as well.
The sky is starry with a chance of meteors.

Me and the bois praying for rain on summer
Myazaki and his team are the kind of people who can design a boos fight with the power to rain celestial meteors upon the earth, summon balls of arcane power to shoot at you, and upon portals to pocket dimensions full of pure energy to blast you with, all while having one of the beast themes in the game. And despite all this, these creatures are still considered failures, I consider this a lesson of how high the standards have been set for Fromsoftware's bosses, and they still deliver.
Also, this is irrellevant, but for a long time, I misread the boss' health bar as "Liver failure"

They prayed, not for salvation but, that their lady, the one who had done her best to care and comfort them, would not be disappointed by their actions again, that they may prove themselves capable just this once, and in that moment of voices crying out in unison for one goal, the cosmos would respond in turn to their cries."

A question I've always had was why are the living failures considered "failures" even though they are way more capable than the celestial emissery wich is supposed to be their "complete form"?

@@Kayther33 yeah but there has to be an actual explanation right?
@@katan844Yes, they're FAR stronger than Celestial Emissaries, however they're failures not because they can't fight, but because they can't talk to the Old Ones (basically what they were made for originally)
@@trashagent9304 damn i see, thanks ;))
they're too human. sure they have the best of both emissary (lasers and cosmic connection) and human (Strength and tankiness) but that wasn't the goal. the goal was true ascension, not this deluded half-measure.

Dude. Holy hell. You have NO IDEA how thankful I am you made this. This one track is likely my favourite from the game, and the climax is, well, climax inducing. Thank you.
You're welcome. Next I'm thinking of tweaking Midir's second phase's OST. There's a bit of the chorus I can't get enough of.
I remeber hearing this in one of the trailers before it came out, then it wasnt in the base game and i was like "fuck i guess they didnt use it." then i got to this boss day 1 of the dlc and creamed myself. Especially because as soon as the chorus came they all started their AOE and it looked like they were the ones chanting. It was amazing.
The first time hearing this, the sky going dark, I couldn't help but run around in a panic instead of attacking.

A chorus of disperate, wailing voices. Hailing the universe that they failed to measure towards. They are flailing aberrations, keenly aware that they are failures.
Desperation, misery, and yet they still worship the existence that made them the abominations they are. Devotion so deep even their damnation to being monsters can't shake it.

My favorite thing about this song is something a reactor pointed out which is that while many of the Bloodborne's OSTs have sad chords, this one has happy chords. The difference between these cosmic beings and some abominations from the sewers is very noticeable in the soundtracks.

Extra blood echoes for visceral kills has a timed effect so that it works on foes with long death animations.
Stack that rune in all your slots.
Get living failures to low health. Visceral kill one, then visceral kill another within 7 seconds, beating the boss, and the runes will multiply the boss's blood echoes once, then multiply it again. 77 million echoes.

Ave! Ave, stellar!
I like to think they are called Living Failures is because they don't look like the Great Ones. The Great Ones all seem to take on the shape of an aquatic lifeform, like Kos and Ebrietas. The Celestial Emissaries are the ones that were seen as successful because they look like a cephalopod. Maybe some things in lore can be seen as surface level instead of the deep end.
The fact that Living is in the name suggests; they knew the protentional that these had with a connection to the Great Ones, but seeing as how they deem them as failures, it's safe to say it was surface level pettiness. Do you really want to base your whole religion to deformed sacks of meat, when you could make reliefs of the Amgydalas and Celestial Emissaries. Humans are always perfectionists.
