The problem is that the Axe FX 3 samples aren't properly level matched to the AX8 / AFX 2 clips. The Axe 3 samples are approx. 1dB louder, and they're panned slightly to the right compared to the samples from the other units. When all three modelers are properly level matched, there's practically no discernible difference between them. If you doubt this, simply lower the Axe FX 3 clips by 1dB and pan them ever so slightly to the left, then A/B them in your DAW.
that's not correct, they are slightly different still. AXE III jcm800 flubs more, has more lowmids. for example. not better or worse, but not identical either.
@Gytis Stankevičius That was true in 2018; however, there have been numerous firmware updates to the modeling since then, and the differences today are definitely non-trivial.
@Gytis Stankevičius Well, no, as someone who owned an Axe-Fx II XL+, I can tell you the differences are no longer insignificant. Are they night and day? No, but they're not trivial.
@@ColdFrixion I am noticing the 3 is sounding more and more organic compared to the 2 XL +. I got my 2 not long before the 3 came out and I am still not disappointed because the 2 is astounding and the 3 was in it's infancy for a bit and at first I don't think it sounded even as good as the 2 in some areas but I know how fractal is always making improvements and updating the algorithms and the 3 is a beast now in tone when dialed in right. Had the AX8, then moved to the AXE III, which was absolutely overkill for my needs. I sold that, and now have the Axe II, which soundwise sound just as good to my ears (on the last Ares update), and does everything I need in the home for 800bucks used as opposed to 3100USD (in the EU) for the III :O
Ouch. I don't think I could live with myself selling my axe Fx 3 lol. It would be like trading in a the perfect woman for just a woman lol. Ok that was a terrible comparison and I don't own the 3 yet but I do have plenty of patches that max out the 2's cpu and I could use the extra routing options. I have heard a well dialed in 3 adn it blows the 2 away in my opinion as well. For me it's about the sound and about how it sounds to me when I play. If I am inspired by my sound I play more and I write more. That inspiration means creativity and I will upgrade sooner or later. The thing is if I can hold off a bit longer the 3 XL or XL+ will be out and with even more horsepower. The problem is all that waiting time I will never get back and I could be enjoying a 3 right now. Oh the agony of it all lol.
Great video. Thanks for sharing it mate. As Kemper and Axe Fx II owner I would stick with my II. III looks and sounds great but I feel like Axe Fx II can do anything that III does.
Great Video Camilo. The truth is all three are so close as to not be discernible to the average listener, the player probably benefits the most from the feel as someone already mentioned but again very subtle here. The Axe III on my computer monitors does sound a just a little more rounded on the clean presets and slightly more open on the overdriven tones. The AX8 is such a powerful tool and is a complete game changer for me. I downloaded your Mark IIC+ preset off of the Axe exchange last night and it set up well for what I do as a great starting point for live playing. Thanks for the hard work and great videos and very tasty playing!
Proud owner of AX8. I won’t upgrade to Axe FX III. In my opinion AX8 still has got tons of setting options. If you already master all of them then you are a black belt sound engineer where your only pain point Is CPU. Nice video btw.
I didnt realize the AX8 is the same general sound source as the II, I knew my AX8 sounded more than good enough for me. But that is nice to know, whatever explains the $1000 increase for a II over an an AX8 is definitely things I dont use.
AX8 & AX2 are 98% identical. AX3 has more tonal character, push, and depth. It's like maybe a 15% difference than the other two units. All of them are awesome, but if you have an AX8 or AX2 you don't need to rush out and get an AX3. If you don't have a Fractal and just need one for studio right now and can afford it, get the AX3. I just got the AX8 a few months ago, and love it. It simplifies things. Instead of carrying around heavy tube amps, or tap dancing pedal boards, I got one compact box that does it all and solves performance needs. I can right away plug into any backline, and with a Matrix power amp, I'm set for anything.
Kieren Moore - Yeah, that too. I also liked some ax8/2 sounds better. It depends on what you like. But you can hear a little bit of "extra" in the ax3. Not much, but it's there.
Not sure you can quantify 15% or any discernible value by this demo. I think the comparison proves that there i very little audible difference between the 3 units. Iv'e had an AxeFX II for 9 years and an Axe8. The Axe III to me is just more horse power and I/O options. just my .02. Anyhow nice video all the same
Nig6tWalker well. I've listened to the samples with my yamaha H8 monitors and with my headphones Sennheiser HD 600 and the difference, if there's one is barely noticeable, I would never hear it in an ABX blind test. and I bet someone can hear it. in that scenario :)) I think the difference is not in sound but in options for the AXE FX III
Yep. I second that. I was playing mine all day yesterday - just loving it. I got on the list for the Axe III the day after it was announced. Honestly, I'm not impressed with any of the demos enough to pull the trigger when my name comes up. The AX8 - especially in the mix - is outstanding. On an interesting side note - I put a Kingsley Jester before my AX8 - and the tubes in it take away almost 100% of any digital artifacts - an effective trick.
What a difference a month makes: After watching Camilo's Axe FX III Marshall Models demo, I bought an Axe III. Don't get me wrong - the AX8 is an incredible unit and you can't go wrong owning one. But the Axe III is absolutely at a whole other level. It is by far the best rig I've ever owned. The quality of the effects, the feel, the seemingly limitless CPU space. When I bought the AIII, I was going to play it and the AX8 for a few weeks to get a thorough comparison. The first night, I played with the AIII for about three hours - I listed the AX8 the next day. A few days later when the buyer of the AX8 came over to check it out, I got it set up ahead of time - and it sounded great …. but nowhere near the AIII. It'd be like comparing a Corvette to a McLaren. If you have a Corvette, you have a very very cool vehicle. But if you own a McLaren ……. Bottom line: This is as good as it gets. People who see the price tag and scoff.....or people who see the Fractal owners as elitists....or people who just want to talk smack in general - are missing the point big time. My AIII sounded great out of the box - but after last night's firmware update … even better. For what it's worth ….
As someone who's XL+ arrived on the same day that the axe III was announced (Like really, the same hour lol), I should be salty, but I'm not really. The presets of my favourite musicians are designed for the axe fx II, and it causes unwanted changes to the sound when firmware is upgraded. It all depends on what you want to use it for, your budget, and practicality etc. The axe III does sound more dynamic, a bigger dynamic range and potentially lower noise floor. I don't see this making any noticeable difference for myself when every time I produce something I compress it in one way or another, bringing the dynamic range back down. But for anyone who wants to record raw solo guitar with nothing else and no post-production, or those who record more classic music that has little compression and more direct raw tones, the axe III will definitely benefit them.
In your case, the only thing you could be salty about is the fact that had you ordered your II after the III was launched, you would've gotten it cheaper! ;)
awesome video Camilo. I have the axefx 2xl+ and absolutely love it. it does way more than I need and sounds totally awesome in my opinion. no desire to upgrade. again great video and thank you for doing it for us.
I would consider the Axe FX II since it has 2 amp block and 2 reverb blocks. That would be all I need to get the gapless switching I am used to with my Headrush. I have the AX8 and it sounds amazing but slightly limited in setting up the presets how I would want for playing live. For the studio gapless switching isn't an issue since I am recording one part at a time.
In a mix, you probably would not tell the difference, definitely not in isolation, so the punters would never tell and the latest incarnation won’t sell more albums either. Comes down to personal choice! Great videos Camilo, thanks.
AX8 = Ax FX II: neither is good or bad, better or worse. They both sound very similar and very nice. Axe FX III: what I'm hearing thru my monitor is more character, color, complexity, fuller, rounder... It's all personal opinion. An extension of how you want to express your music. After selling all my gear back some 10 years ago (but stopped playing 16-17yrs ago) I'm just now getting back into it, so I'm really studying gear again. I don't want a collection of gear as I have lost my Gear Acquisition Syndrome that so many people have. It's amazing to see how far gear has come along.
First of all awesome comparison! To my ears AX8 sounds exactly the same as AXE FX 2 for the most part. However AXE FX 3 definitely sounds more open and brighter, but does it really matter for the price of 1000 more Euro, I can't decide right now.
Nice dude! So glad you made this video. I need to listen on my studio monitors to get a better reference but I do notice I slight difference in the axefx3. Nice work!
If I weren't paying attention, I couldn't tell "oh now it's ax-8, and now it's axe-fx II". Axe-fx III though distinctively has a bigger sound, in particular in the low end where it's more well rounded and full. But we're talking about top notch amp sim for all three units and in a mix it'd be very hard to tell which one is which. The big difference here is in the processing power, which affects the quality of CPU intensive effects like reverb and dual amp / dual cab signal chains. All that said, I have an AX-8 and I can barely scratch the surface of it's sonic capabilities: Fractal Audio for the win!
Great job dude. Really interesting hearing the difference. What about a comparison video tweaking the best possible tone out of your Axe-Fx II versus Axe-Fx III? Just because the Axe-Fx III could sound way better ;)
The AX8 and the Axe FX 2 sound pretty much if not exactly the same but the 3 really shines here. Nothing wrong with the 2 and it's still the second best thing on the market. I will likely wait till the 4 comes out before upgrading but you have to understand the support and longevity of the Fractal products. There is nothing else like it either. Fractal gave the Axe FX 2 a major algorithm update in late 2019 by porting the algorithms form the 3 over to it. They made the 2 sound much closer to the 3 and they had already stopped selling and supporting the Axe fx 2 when they did this. They have sold less 3's because of that update I am sure but they also earned customers for life.
It sounds like more $ =more headroom in the modeling, I would be interested in a comparison of the effects, since the improved processing power should allow more simultaneous effects.
It does and some of the new effects are just not possible in the axe fx 2. Fractal tried to make some of them work to port over to the 2 owners but the 2 just couldn't do it. I think it was the tri chorus that Cliff tried so hard to get to work for us Axe fx 2 owners but had to give it up.
Best. In order... axe 3, AX8, axe 2 to my ears. All are very similar but the axe 3 has a bit more depth and dimensionality. As many others have said, if you have an axe 2 or AX8, there's not much reason to upgrade, unless you like all the new features. I just upgraded from an Ultra to the 3 and I'm loving it. Had my ultra for 8 years, and it still sounds awesome, but the 3 kills it. I tried a helix, junk IMHO. tried a Kemper, it just didn't do it for me, but not bad... Fractal for life!
I thought the Axe FX II sounded best to be honest. The AX8, which I own, slightly harsher. The Axe FX III, a little sterile. Still, not as much difference as some people are making it out to be. Perhaps playing then live feels more different than it actually sounds.
The AXE FX 3 is still in it's infancy and the 2 has been gone over with a fine tooth comb for 10 years and it has been updated and tweaked to perfection pretty much. Teh 3 has room to grow and way more capabilities as well as it can reproduce any sound the 2 can make exactly. I have heard the 3 shine when dialed in well and it does sound even more organic than the 2. I would not be surprised if some things have not been exaggerated just to give it a newer sound than the 2 so people don't thing there is really no difference at this point. When the 3 first dropped people said the first firmware did not sound as good as the 2's but that soon changed and they actually sounded identical for a while but the 3 is now pulling ahead and will keep on going. It's not enough difference in sound for a lot of people to care I know. For myself my tone when I play means everything. If my tone is more inspiring to me I will be more creative and I will play more.
The Ii sounds better than the AX-8 on a couple of patches and the III very slightly better than the II However they are all in the same ballpark and in the mix it's doubtful anyone would tell the difference in a blind test. Maybe when the II software evolves a lot beyond the Quantum base code the differences will increase but there is probably a law of diminishing returns with modelling code even with way more processing power! The effects should definitely be able to improve a lot with extra processing and memory. For now it seems like f all difference though!
A blind test would definitely be needed but it sure seems like the Axe III has a hair more punch and super low end than the others. The low end could be due to slight differences in the cab IRs but the punch is interesting. Maybe due to the different converters maybe? However, the true reasons to purchase the III for me would be the seemless switching ("channels") and the added routing options. Just so much more flexibility with Re-Amping while simultaneously monitoring, all in the box. Of course you also get a bigger box with is bad for gigs but that's the price.
I guess you have to watch the bass more on the Axe FX III? Apart from that, the III does seem to sound a bit more "present", or "real" than the others? I did not know about your channel. Subscribed!
I can hear a difference with the III for sure...but not with the AX8/II. In fact the Ax8 sounded a little better in a few of those clips than the II (through my monitors). For somebody shopping the Sub $1000 market currently...What is the best deal? Used Ax/fx 1,Ax8 or something like a Line 6 product? Will be using a real cab and mesa 2:90 for now.
Im sue you can get an Axe FX 2 used for that price. If not, an AX8. You would get more mileage out of the Axe FX 2. I’ve tried the Line 6 stuff but it’s not quite there yet, in my opinion. Good sounds, but not sure it responds like the fractal stuff dynamically.
The AXE III sounds a bit louder/present/brighter? Besides that all of them sound the same, its matter of what you can afford honestly, or which features you need.
On the last lick the axe III sounded clearer but that's about it, the rest sounded pretty much the same. I guess there will be differences as the firmware updates start to separate them as they did with the ultra and ax II
Feeling much better about my AX2 now.. Some subtle differences with the 3, but as you mentioned you didn’t get into the additional parameters, I’m still curious.
Thanks for this comparison vid Camilo! AxIII is a couple of dB louder. A known placebo for “better”. Still good none the less. I came here to justify buying the FM3 over my AX8. At this point, sound is not much different. The AX8, for me has better accessibility through all the footswitches so it’s still the winner of the floor units for me.
Thank you!! I honestly tried my best to match the volumes using a VU meter in ProTools. Sorry about that! After a few days with the FM3 Ill say it has some really cool UI controls when scrolling through views and layouts! They make 3 switches go a looooooong way
Camilo Velandia Saul good man! I’m curious to see how the FM3 fares over the next few seasons. No doubt its a Top piece of kit! Looking forward to your review when you have got it down to use live.
I'm a bit late on this video, but is never too late... As session musicians (touring, gigging,..). Do you recommend an AX8 ou AXE FX-2 ? I seen the FM-3 and AX3 but not really in my budget to be fair. Let me know what do you think please. CHeers
I use the Axe FX 3 for session and AX8 for live shows. If you need to play it live with presets, get the AX8. If you just want to make sounds during sessions, the Axe FX is great
Having you buy all that Fractal gear should make Cliff smile . . . nice playing . . . very little difference in all 3 bits of gear. But if you got the cash . . . its the Next Shiny Object.
The iii has more cab reflections or the mic distance thing is more accurate. There’s a subtle reverb to all the iii sounds. Which is something I have to dial in on the helix by using two cabs and putting a short room reverb with Predelay on one cab and using the room reflections a tiny bit on the other. Man. This is making me wanna switch to axe
I guess the Axe FX III has options that are useful to like further finetune a large hall gig. Sound is awesome on both units. Both because ax8 is an fx 2.
I just ordered the AXE3 should be here in a few days (I'm a former AXE2 owner). In this sample I'd say all 3 units sound very close. All sound great. I'd maybe say the AXE3 and AXE2 sound the closest to each other.
Thanks for making this video. The AX8 and Axe FX II are identical in sound. But the III sounds better, but not that much better. The question is, if you already own an AX8 or Axe FX II, does the extra cost justify the 5 to 10% improvement in sound? This video was published in April 18, since then, the version 10 firmware for AX8 has made a great improvement in sound from version 9.
I have the AFII and it's way beyond adequate for my needs. That doesn't mean I won't get an AFIII if I should get a bargain at the right time. But it's not something I just have to go out and get right away.
I couldn't hear much difference, that is not to say the Axe fx III doesn't feel better when playing one in the flesh. Can't wait to try one, shame they're not readily available in the UK!
Bro! Honestly, for 6 years I recorded with the Axe 2. Studio quality sounds. The Axe 3 is an upgrade in many ways, but no producers ever complained about the Axe 2. If thats what your budget it, I can guarantee you that there is NOTHING better for that budget. The Kemper and the OX are amazing but theyre not as complete if you are looking for a unit that does EVERYTHING.
People are missing something here. Do they sound identical? Yes? But what happens when the new software overpower the old software and the old units can't be updated anymore?
Subtle differences, nothing some individual tweaking cant do to achieve the same. So tone wise, this video aint no game changer for me. For the benefit, perhaps playing an actual III may help one experience the improved feel, response, nuances etc. Yes, III's the latest in technology, more DSP and hence more capabilities. If thats what one needs, then its the right one. For the average gigging/home recording muso, its more placebo than anything else! Great video and playing!!
Very interesting video, thanks Camilo. I noticed a couple of things. At 5.08 the AX8 sounds more clicky or more midrangy and both the FX II and III sound as if there is more of a musicality or tonal change in them or maybe this is a slight change in tonal settings ? It is my understanding that the AX8 is the same as the FXII in terms of algorithms etc. so I don’t know if it could be a different guitar take? Camilo, are the guitar takes all the same or did you play it three different times? If they are the same take played through each unit then there is a distinct difference here. I have the AX8 and I’m happy to note that the differences are extremely subtle. Discerning these differences will not even be noticed by 98% of the world IMO. Oh and I have noticed the FXIII sound louder. This will make it sound better almost always regardless of any other factor.
What was so different? I thought that the Axe Fx III was a little bit higher in volume. So almost like a mastering on a song. When you hear something louder you think that it sounds better. But the differens that you might hear is going to be lost when you you record it in a song any way. But the Axe Fx III still have got some really cool feature but I wouldn't buy it if it was just for the sound. The AX8 and The Axe Fx II still sounds amazing...
I'm so glad there is always someone to tell me where I went wrong on the internet. Sorry - you're absolutely right - of course I couldn't hear any difference, it was just volume. Everyone carry on - I have been corrected.
There's a difference, but it's not night and day. It's more of an EQ thing than anything else, and how the amp block interacts with the cab. Same amp model, but a different/tweaked algorithm. In some cases, I actually prefer the AX2/AX8 algorithms. It's just a different character. The AX3 models sound a little more like they are "in a room", or you are in a room with them.
I'm glad I could help. But I wanted to know what you thought was the big differens. You of all people must know that you can't be wrong on the internet ;-). People will notice that :-)
Psyckadeli TV okay, I don't want to be rude, but I was being sarcastic. I know what I'm hearing and it's not just volume. I love my AX8 and axe fx II, so don't worry, I'm not buying I to a hype train. I feel that I know what I'm talking about here and I hear a distinct difference with the Axe III that isn't just volume related. Doesn't mean I'm going to rush out and buy one and sell my other units. I just wanted to let Camilo know that I appreciated his videos and can hear the difference between the units. Let's all move along now.
listening through my jbl lsr305's.. the ax8 and the axe fx II sound identical.. the axe fx III definetly has more depth.. they all sound great.. the axe fx III just has that little bit extra.. I'd like to see a hi gain video demonstration pushing all the units.. lets see them compared and unleashed.. it may not be a fair comparison but they're different price points anyways.. great video by the way..
they sound very similar however the axe fx 3 has more depth and bass in the presets and a little more gain imo. u could slightly tweak the ax8 and the axe fx 2 a little more and im sure they would sound near identical.
Seemed like the AXE FX III was a bit more ballsy in some of the clips... but really in a mix I don't think it's going to stand out much over the others.
Great video, Camilo! All of them are awesome and share the same pedigree, but the III is clearly more dynamic than the others. You can hear that uncontrolled bottom end on III that sounds compressed on Ax8 and II. Still, they are all great. I have a Axe II and it's a keeper.
Not at all. I use it direct. The power amp is in case you want to use it with a real speaker cab, because some people like to feel the push of air of a real speaker.
All 3 sound good with the AX8 running in 3rd place by a small margin, the AXE II having just a slight bit more forward mid/upper mids and the AXE III having better note discernment through my monitors. I actually like the sound of the AXE II with gain better, but I imagine the AXE III could be made to sound like the AXE II with a minor EQ adjustment. That said, I don't know if the AXE II could achieve the AXE III clarity. I'm contemplating selling my Mesa Mark V and Ext. Cab for one of these, but I'm still on the fence about making that move.
The problem with this test is that the takes are different. You should really reamp one phrase across all devices and it will be glaringly obvious. Do this with fm3 and it will go viral
Guys! I'm glad you're all digging the videos. Remember, I am simply comparing flat presets on all three units. IMHO, this isn't THE reason to decide if the Axe FX 3 is worth it. I'm not trying to sell you anyone anything. I don't work for Fractal Audio. But I do think it is a FACT, for example, that the Plexi factory preset on the Axe FX III sounds better than the one on the Axe FX II. My guess is that all the new parameters that are in the Axe III come into play to make the sound more realistic. For the presets in this demo, I didn't tweak the new preamp or power amp parameters, or the new Input and Output EQ. If it was about which unit can be tweaked to mold the best possible tone, I'm sure the III would win. Also keep in mind that other things like the reverb block have been improved, as well as new delay blocks, the new "channels" feature (which I frickin love!!), etc, etc. The amp & cab block are nearly the most important in your fractal's tone, but there are other determining factors that should be taken into consideration, in my opinion. That being said, your AX8, FX8, and Axe FX 2 will always be world class units!!
Camilo Velandia hey man just would like to know how you have them set up is through a cab or what and if through a comuter what speakers are you useing
Camilo Velandia Hi Camilo! Could you do a comparison between the Axe Fx2 and Fx3 in terms of general Fx, reverbs and delays and how the Fx3 is more powerful than the Fx2 regarding the fx power? Thanks
I thought the AX8 & Axe FX II sounded pretty much identical, I was listening through one Bose blue tooth earbud so not ideal but I did think the Axe FX III sounded much better.
Axe Fx III is worth every penny, 4 times the power of Ax8, usb Audio and already a better firmware (ares sounds better than quantum!) it’s the better value for the money of all Fractal stuff without any doubt, and will hold resale value for years. Ax8 is just waiting for update in 2/3 years with Ares.
There is definatley a difference,, though quite small to my ears!. And its not making me go WOW!!.. I'll stick with my AX8. Everyday i use it, the more i love it. :D
Besides the volume differences between left and right, there's absolutely no way you can hear any difference in a mix. Go with the cheapest or easiest to use.
The problem is that the Axe FX 3 samples aren't properly level matched to the AX8 / AFX 2 clips. The Axe 3 samples are approx. 1dB louder, and they're panned slightly to the right compared to the samples from the other units. I think the big takeaway for me is that you really don’t miss out on anything by getting the AX8. Thanks!!
Really appreciate all these videos! This was a great comparison and done well!
Great video. Thanks for sharing it mate. As Kemper and Axe Fx II owner I would stick with my II. III looks and sounds great but I feel like Axe Fx II can do anything that III does.

What tosh. AX8 sounded better on several settings, to me 9and I'm sure to some others).
It just depends what sounds you like ...
Anyhow nice video all the same
You just answer all my questions.. will go for an Ax8
It would be funny if all of these sounds were from the same Boss Me-50 and he just used a picture for reference.
Would be the best April fools joke
Not a chance. Fractal is light years ahead above all modellers
The III does seem to sound more open and defined. Still waiting for the magic ticket. Thanks for posting
great, I'll keep my Ax8 with zero regrets :)))
yeah me too,to my ears the 3 devices sound the same.

In your case, the only thing you could be salty about is the fact that had you ordered your II after the III was launched, you would've gotten it cheaper! ;)
I bought my ax8 after this video, I'm super happy
I still use my AX8 live!
awesome video Camilo.
Not much of different. I'm sure we all will fail the blind test.
Axe FX III GUI is much more beautiful though IMHO.
In a mix, you probably would not tell the difference, definitely not in isolation, so the punters would never tell and the latest incarnation won’t sell more albums either. Comes down to personal choice! Great videos Camilo, thanks.
Great job, all 3 sounds pretty similir with the Axe FXIII sounding a little more realistic in this comparison
What a great video. Thanks. I decided buy 3.
Totally agree.
Thanks for video mate! A3 sounds slightly more open and with more transients, but I'm curious how it compares in the mix.
Superb comparison demo!!
This is my impression as well.
FX 3 has a polished sound but the AX8 sounds real and gritty
A blind test would definitely be needed but it sure seems like the Axe III has a hair more punch and super low end than the others. The low end could be due to slight differences in the cab IRs but the punch is interesting. Maybe due to the different converters maybe? However, the true reasons to purchase the III for me would be the seemless switching ("channels") and the added routing options. Just so much more flexibility with Re-Amping while simultaneously monitoring, all in the box. Of course you also get a bigger box with is bad for gigs but that's the price.
Great video! It would be awesome if you were to post the presets you used here.
I also want to hear how the different Axe Fx's compare to the plain non-fx AXE on your desk. Which one attracts more chicks?
The more effects, and the more notes, the less chicks.... So probably the non FX Axe
does the ax8 and axefx 2 differ in the quality of reverb and delay sounds? especially for ambient use
Not that I can hear, but the only issue there is CPU. AX8 Is more limited as you add more effects.
I have to say the ax8 is the best deal....its sounds just like 2 but alot cheaper!!...
The best deal is to get the Axe Fx II and the AX8. I really love my set up...
Joe Paul coz the kemper is all about profiling amps and less about modulation effects.
Cheers! You just saved me a few quid haha! I was about to buy the AXE FX III. Think I'll skip. AXE 8 or FX II sounds great!
I just ordered the AXE3 should be here in a few days (I'm a former AXE2 owner). In this sample I'd say all 3 units sound very close. All sound great. I'd maybe say the AXE3 and AXE2 sound the closest to each other.
The Axe FX III is the unit of the future. Im so glad I got it. The AX8 and Axe FX II feel like toys next to it. No offense to anyone. Just how I feel.
The Axe III has a little more bottom end ( mid bottom)..Also, the Axe III sounds more HD ( High Definition)..
I only have 1500$ I was looking at Axe2s on the web.
Does the 2 still have a ton of realism/tonal options even though this thing came out?
Hi Camilo. Thnak you for this movie. Can you make once again this compare with Ares 1.03 in fractal axe fx II? cheers
People are missing something here. Do they sound identical? Yes? But what happens when the new software overpower the old software and the old units can't be updated anymore?
They all sound exactly the same. Just like they should because they are the same software.
Actually I doubt anyone could even tell in a mix.
Absolutely right... its more for the studio & bedroom audiophiles who would rather look at comparisons than enjoy playing their instruments
This will make it sound better almost always regardless of any other factor.
really really nice comparison
Thank you!!!
It´s time to get AX8, Thanks for your video.
Theyre releasing the FM3 which is supposed to be the replacement of the AX8 I believe
@@CamiloVelandia Yeah but, the FC-12 is like 1000$ lol....
Wow, that clarity and punch in the iii
Thanks for the video ! In relation to the other effects, does AX8 sound like FXII?
Its identical, but can use a little bit fewer effects at once.
Hi any thoughts if I run Ax8 direct in front of the amp?
Wow. I wasn't expecting this much difference. Fantastic Axe III vids mate.
All very similar on the clean side.
Crunch side AX8 and II identical and III more dynamic, bass, depth, is it a good thing hmm ...
they sound very similar however the axe fx 3 has more depth and bass in the presets and a little more gain imo. u could slightly tweak the ax8 and the axe fx 2 a little more and im sure they would sound near identical.
I like more the AX8. The sound has more body.
Camilo, it is necessary a power amp to use Axe Fx III ?
Why didnt you run the exact same recording through each?
AX8 as well as the AXE FX 3 sound more open and uncompressed!
Barely a difference between the three. Perhaps the AXE FX II and III are darker and a bit more beefy, but only a little bit.
I can't hear any difference
They sound different, but not necessarily progressively better ... and different across the board.
I preferred the AX8 sounds or several.
Sure everyone has an opinion but I'll just say that the AX8 is probably good enough for me still. Just wish the CPU ceiling was higher.
The problem with this test is that the takes are different. You should really reamp one phrase across all devices and it will be glaringly obvious. Do this with fm3 and it will go viral
ax8 is clearer than the fx2 by a slight bit.
fx3 is like ultra hd compared to the others.
I find some differences in the ac30 preset, I don’t know which is better😂
Thanks
Fact? No, there are only impressions and opinions. They sound different - that's about as factual as we can get ...
I thought the AX8 & Axe FX II sounded pretty much identical, I was listening through one Bose blue tooth earbud so not ideal but I did think the Axe FX III sounded much better.
dude what do you do for a living to afford all this gear!? I'm still undecided about the kemper and the axe fx. Good videos!
Bro! Full time musician! Touring, giggin, and doing sessions!
Nice job dude!!!
AX8 definitely seems like the brightest of the 3, Axe Fx 2 would be the darkest, and Axe Fx 3 definitely sounds smoother and more controlled.
hi what are those monitors?
I use the Adam A7X’s
Amigo, no puedes hacer algo en español de estos Axe
to me the axe fx ii sounded minutely thinner than the other two in the cleans..
Cab block?
Ax8 and fx3 sounds very similar. I’ll go with ax8 in my future purchasing
Rafael Matiazo
You cant buy it anymore.
Mārtiņš Gailītis yeah, it’s descontinued. I’ve been thinking about Fractal FM3
I went in thinking axeIII Has to be the best but to my ears AX8 stomped em
Yea the ax8 nd ax2 sound better then the new versions
Isn’t it kind of better that the ax8 comes all ready with footswitches and stuff
Besides the volume differences between left and right, there's absolutely no way you can hear any difference in a mix.
Go with the cheapest or easiest to use.
