It isn’t a lifestyle watch for military. Garmin is valued for the durability and battery life for us. You see them all over military bases because we use them for our jobs.
One of my really good friends is a marine and he's been rocking the Fenix 6 since it came out. That thing gets beat up with his use but it's still holding strong. Good point. I remember reading a while back that people in the military were giving away their locations because their Garmin watches were connected to Strava and they were using it to track their training and workouts.
In lot’s of countrys in europe smartwatches like garmin are banned for military use. Enemy drones will find those watches even when the watch is in so called airplane or stealth mode.
1:20 the orange ones also got Sapphire and titanium:. If scratches are a concern, the orange wristband ones would be recommended as they got natural titanium color without black coating which still can chip off upon scratching, despite offering DLC. My orange fenix 5 plus with natural titanium color + Sapphire still looks very good despite the watch got scratched many times.
My Fenix 6 sapphire wuith carbon grey DLC has no one scratch after 3 YEARS and many many bumps, DLC protection is awesome. I'm afraid that new DLC treatment is less resistant than the F6 series... Titanium bezel keep scratches very easily, by the way
Sorry, don't mean to be negative but this is one of the most poorly researched videos I've seen on this watch 1. Don't mention the biggest features, diving and mic. 2. You got the price wrong for the 47mm Sapphire. It's $1099, not $1200. And 3. "What the other reviewers aren't mentioning." Everyone said what you said, just more accurate. And 4, I don't think many people are buying this as a lifestyle watch. 5. Also you don't mention anything about the pricing. It's quite a bit out of line and is going to discourage many from buying it. 6. You mention the Epix 7, which doesn't exist.
This was a quick first look on the same day I got it. I don't get prerelease items. I buy it myself and get it the same time as everyone else. I'm putting together a more robust first week update. After taxes and shipping I paid nearly $1200. There's lots of stuff I don't mention because I don't try to cover everything just what is interesting to me. There's lots of other videos on this watch out there that are 30 minutes long.
I'll talk about the mic next video. It's adequate. Not as good as the apple watch ultra but it gets the job done for phone calls. The only access I have to water is a pool so can't check out diving.
instead I think this review has given many details, it has shown the titanium model with DLC, it has talked about the appearance, and it has shown well how the always on behaves. Also in the notifications you can see the photos!! Finally.. thanks
What other reviewers also haven't shown yet is: all the possible watchfaces. Reddit has quite a few users asking for what watchfaces are on the 8 and they are missing the watchfaces from Fenix 7 or other watches.
Why didn't you get the "orange titanium/sapphire" option so to get the orange sensor guard. And then, buy a second black strap to replace the original orange strap. This would be your ideal, right?
I think the black looks more premium and appears more expensive. And I'm way too OCD lol. I didn't like that the metal bezel was a brighter color but the plastic case was almost black. To me that looks cheap. I was actually thinking about getting a different color band to help give the all black one some pop.
It gets dimmer in dark rooms and brighter in bright environments. It's a clever always on display. One thing I forgot to mention in the video is the overall panel gets much dimmer now compared to before. Sometimes at night I don't even have to turn off the always on display or enter do not disturb mode
Thanks. The products I cover aren't cheap. So I don't take this stuff lightly. It's sometimes a big commitment. I'll do a more in depth review on the Garmin in the future. One thing to keep in mind is it's not as fully featured in terms of a smart watch as an apple watch or galaxy watch. It's a fitness focused watch with some smart watch features.
Since the epix 2 I keep going back and forth. It's bright and sunny where I live and sometimes the OLED isn't bright enough. I like that the MIP looks more like a real watch face vs a screen. But the colors and the animations of the OLED is next level. The resolution is much higher too. I'm thinking about getting the MIP and comparing them.
@@consumertechwarehouse let us know about it!! It's my big doubt. Fenix 8 MIP is a better life batetry, but the screen is smaller (1,3" vs 1,4") and the watch is thicker +1,5mm!! Very bad. But my thoughs are about the always-on on amoled display during the night.. I don't want a watch that seems a toy! I always loved the MIP display...
Great video. I heard you mention the fenix and the Epix and wanted to know if you thought this screen was brighter by any chance? I found the Epix AMOLED screen to be dim.
@@consumertechwarehouse : Thank you for the quick reply. That's what I figured. At the very least they need to crank up the brightness. Not to the level of a Apple or Samsung watch, but at least brighter than it is already.
It's better for 2 reasons. Garmin allows all day heart rate monitoring. Apple turns it on sporadically throughout the day. And second, when I go for a run, the heart rate reacts to my intensity faster than the apple watch does and some of the bigger reviewers like desfit and DC Rainmaker compare it to a chest strap and it usually matches closer to the chest strap than all other smart watches Having said that, the apple watch isn't bad. It's great. I would say the apple watch is 90% and the Garmin is 95%.
There are many bugs in the Fenix8.. Screen brightness in low light conditions makes my Fenix 8 51 Amoled completely UNUSABLE!!! Also the watch lags even in the watch face menu.. it’s a horrible experience, never had these issues with my Fenix7X or my EPIXPRO 51!!
I've been in the security sector for 20 years now, and i had the fenix 7x pro sapphire solar but decided to go to the Garmin Instinct 2X solar tactical, It was the best decision ever. I wouldn't buy the fenix 8 not only because of the price but because it'll get wrecked.
I had high hopes for the Fenix 8. Garmin has let the hardware fall behind and despite better battery life than Apple, really missed the mark on this one.
Poor research. Assuming you are US based, black is NOT the only way to get sapphire with titanium. All the titanium watches include sapphire, and this includes the raw titanium watch with spark orange band.
I own a sapphire glass Garmin that got scratched . its glass it can get scratched . i own the fenix 8 corning gorilla glass and say its super durable and also very scratch resistant . not a deal breaker. most of all my mineral glass g shocks have no scratch at all. so corning gorilla glass is a step above that.
i had it - went back 2 days later .. absolute bag of crap .. i mean i put my apple watch i want it to start a run no problem - fennix 8 just sits there and for 1000 pounds well sorry no way .. im back to apple watch and have to say - garmin you aint got the apps you aint got the Voice assistant i would go back to the table if you wanna sell a grand watch
What other reviewers aren't saying? They say nothing about how strong is vibrate. Can you feel it strong? I need to feel it strong vibrate feel, in notifications and incoming calls. epix 7 was rubbish light vibrate. i return it in the shop.
I'm seeing these watches on a lot of people's wrists these days. And the steps tracking, sleep training and amazing battery life is what attracts me to it. I do a 5k run once or twice a week or at least and enjoy the v02 max, training readiness l, heat acclimation etc. but the main reason I go for this is the battery and sleep tracking.
@boblatkey7160 Absolutely, if you want a smart watch, get a smart watch. This is a fitness watch that tracks things apple users have never heard of. Can your smart watch track endurance, hill score, vo2 max, heart rate zones, and suggest workouts to increase your fitness.....

Wait does the Fenix 7 pro was plastic too on the side?
Why didn’t you get the solar mip option?
which is better size 47 or 51 for a comfortable lifestyle and daily uses?
What other reviewers also haven't shown yet is: all the possible watchfaces. Reddit has quite a few users asking for what watchfaces are on the 8 and they are missing the watchfaces from Fenix 7 or other watches.

Hello, how long vibration the clock, bye an incoming call?

The Apple Watch has the best wrist based heart rate the Garmins are notoriously poor and always require a chest strap for accuracy.
