The thing about Homelander and Anthony Starr’s performance, is that Homelander was only nuanced in seasons one through three because of his human need for love and acceptance. Season one was with Stillwell, season two was with Stormfront and Stan, and Season 3 has Stan wiping his hands of Homelander and the last holdouts of people he thought he could get to love him, Maeve and Starlight, also wiping his hands of him. By the end of season 3/ gen v season 1, he’s shed any pretense of being human. I’d wager his end comes, if not in Season 4, then Gen V Season 2. I’m prepared for less “loaded gun ready to go off” Homelander and more “second coming of he-who-shan’t-be-named” Homelander.
Oh my god, this show was incredible, i was so impressed. The traliers did not do this show justice. This show is just so many levels ahead of the marvel shows.
This episode really reminded me of the storyline Riot at Xavier’s from Grant Morrison new x-men and Cate reminded me so much of Esme Cuckoo and a bit of Emma frost with her powers. Loved this season so much!
I still think Homelander has nuance. At the end of season 3, he has everything he wanted: his son, the love of people, and deep down he knows now that he has a father in the form on soldier boy. In a way, this is the equivalent of Homelander in the comics breaking loose and doing whatever he wants but because the show is so much more sophisticated, it shows that now he is able to do whatever he wants from a PR perspective. He has total control. He wants to be revered like a god and there are people who do. He has a cult of personality. Kinda like a certain individual in real life. The terrifying factor is that Homelander is legitimately a ticking bomb and he is the most powerful in the room at all times so that levels up the stakes. I thought his cameo was the best part of the finale and it goes to show how the two shows are in a colliding path that will end in one of the greatest finales in television. I’d do the boys season 4, gen V s2 and honestly a movie finale to cap off both storylines at once. The crumbs are there for the destruction of supes. It’s just a matter of when at this point.
Homelander does indeed have nuance, I believe he truly cares for Ryan and isn't *as* evil as someone like Stormfront, but he is NOT morally grey whatsoever. He raped Becca, killed probably thousands of people at this point. Let hundreds of innocents die and has stated that he would literally genocide entire cities and states if Starlight released the Flight 37 video. Just because he isn't twirling a moustache and cares for his son, doesn't mean he isn't pure evil. I'm sure Hitler cared for his family members too, doesn't make him any less evil and certainly doesn't make him morally grey.
One of the previously announced characters for season 4 was Sister Sage played by Susan Hayward. Wouldn’t be surprised if she is Marie’s sister and one of the new members of the 7. Very excited for season 4!
Thank you so much Grace for having these breakdowns ready so I can watch immediately following the episode. I see you and appreciate all the hard work you do for us!💗
The only path for homelander to remain relevant is him becoming depowered in some way and becoming ordinary which i believe would be a fate worse then death for him and could lead to actual character development or just kill him off at the end of S4.
I think he’s been getting good character development. Every season he gets more deranged and it’s harder to sympathize with him. It’s obvious they are heading towards the original plot point of the supe revolution from the comics. With him promoting Cate and Sam; two supes who share similar supremacy ideas as Homelander.
With the melted camera on ep1 and how Marie's power developed, I thought the big twist was going to be camera footage showing goldenboy didn't 😵 himself and that Marie used her powers to make him explode.
Wow what a great ending. Gen V turned out to be really good. Way better than Loki season 2 which so far is really underwhelming. So excited for the boys season 4!!
Emma Frost is my favorite X-Men character and I'm loving how similar Cate's character is. Considering Cate can already hear thoughts, she could have the potential to use her compulsion telepathically.
So I realize I don't have to correct you and I don't mean to come off as snarky by doing it butt lack of emotion actually makes a person a sociopath as opposed to a psychopath..... that being said what a brilliant observation Grace
I think Marie might be indestructible and can rapidly heal herself and others with her bloody powers. The invisible dude was whooping her butt but it didn’t affect her.
@@ms.bubs4fun506 true because translucent was very strong and they had to blow him up from the inside thats when i knew marie was getting stronger when she took those hits and didnt bleed but too take homelanders lasers is freaking insane im surprised he didnt kill her on the spot because she could be a threat if she grows with her abilities unless he doesnt know much about her or is super arrogant
Marie is literally life and death, controlling blood meansshe can either give you life or take it. People take for granted how powerful she truly is, and we haven't seen all her powers yet.
also the social media manager with the micro explosives was undercover as an agent the woods x it makes sense that Vought would essentially have sleeper agents for security purposes to be able to report on and help neutralize supes all across campus
Boys season 4 has to explain why the board turned on Marie after saving their lives. Did Homelander simply say the people trying to kill you are now the hero. I liked the ending and hope the answers are revealed.
To me it’s to cover their asses. If they didn’t turn on Marie, she would have probably told the world about what vought was doing in the school. Cate and sam I feel are less likely and can be more easily manipulated not to. That’s my best guess
14:50 grace, shetty mentioned in ep7 the school is a front to study supes. THATS HIS COVER. he probably recognised that girl w/ electric powers from being inside the woods at one point, maybe he was one of the people performing experiments himself
When Marie popped Rufus's ummm, hoohah, i should've known she had Neuman's powers. And i know that wasnt in the finale but that was such an amazing reveal
The Boys was never pure escapism. Everything about The Boys is based on reality. Homelander was always about Supe superiority. After getting away with killing a civilian, of course it would changed him to become more extreme. This Homelander makes perfect sense. I understand the problem with it.
I did wonder if Godokin had a Supe with healing powers on the campus? If Rufus got 'repaired' it would explain why he was so relaxed about what had happened to him - though surely that person could also heal Polarity. A healer could also fix Cate's missing arm in series 2/Series 4.
I’ve been really looking forward towards your review and breakdown of Gen V since the first episode and it’s finally here. I really appreciate it Grace 🤗 Your the BEST ❤️♥️💜
Honestly, from what know Cate's powers aren't permanent, because Luke eventually, Sam supressing his emotions aren't doing to make him at better. I think deep down he still does love Emma, the betrayed, once the push has a run its course to doing to destroy him. Honestly, I kinda Sam to get captured by the Boys so they could help him, because ironic, Cate, the only living person that saw Sam better anyone else and people who don't know are somehow always than Cate herself.
Her sister!!! ohhh, It makes sense, months ago they teased a black female superhero as a new member of The Seven, and it wasn't Jaz Sinclair, so Grace is onto something
I wonder if Sister Sage from the boys season 4 could be Marie’s sister. Why would her parents only pump one of their daughters for Gen v? Hope to see how the story progresses
Marie was definitely my favorite. She’s really easy to root for and did such a fantastic job playing the part. I’m looking forward to seeing her in future episodes. As far as Homelander, always evil. I’m looking forward to his demise.
I LOVED GEN V. It’s funny since the beginning I always thought cate could be defeated if someone were to just rip off her hands… and now look what happened 😂
Wooooo wheee that was good, but I did feel like everything felt rushed toward the end. Shetty's death seemed like there was something missing, to the point I wasn't sure if she was dead. While it may seem like the woods supes are the "bad guys", they were tortured and confined and then basically told it was all to develop a weapon to kill all the supes, I'm not surprised they went on a murder spree rampage against humans. I didn't like Homelander's cameo as I like him better when he publicly acts like a good guy. Really excited for season 2 and the return of The Boys.
I enjoy them both. At 61 years young I’ve been raised with comic books and the dream of live shows were in its early attempts terribly sad. Now I’m getting the sups I’ve always wanted.
This was a banger of an episode and an epic, fantastic finale! 🔥 I was however also disappointed that Sam turned so sharply and easily against Emma, I would’ve like have seen him be more conflicted about being so staunchly against her rather than what we saw. I also didn’t like how they didn’t build up Andre’s dad’s illness or his, it just seemed to come out of nowhere and how is this not a side effect any other characters are experiencing? I kept thinking, if compound V has side effects this bad from using it, do they really need a virus? Lol Homelander landing and then going right at Marie really threw me off too, I was not expecting that AT ALL! LOL! All in all it really was an unforgettable finale and I don’t know how they are going to top this next season!
I have a theory for Marie's sister. Earlier this year or last year, there was a set photo and/or video showing that The Boys Season 4 would have new supes joining the Seven. One of them was firecracker, an african american supe. My theory is what if she was Marie's sister who joined either permanently or just for a while.
Loving how I genuinely feared all 4 real heroes actually died there at the end. A testament to what this franchise sets up for viewers! The downside: realizing how much more excited I was about this episode (and the franchise's future) than I was about Loki's and the MCU. Also, the acting was top notch. Marie and Cate being the Xavier/Magneto parallel was brilliant, and the fact that Marie was already in a pretty gray area to begin with is so cool. Can't wait to see what happens next 🤩
The Boys and Gen V have collective destroyed Marvel and DC, not with action but cohesive storytelling. Marie going full Hama Bloodbender in the field was everything. It was totally last air bender when Hama showed Katara there was water everywhere, by swiping all the water from the field of grass and flowers. But Marie did it with dead bodies. Glorious. I loved Homelander showing up to be a Villain! Glorious. They gave me what I've been wanting from X-Men for years. Maturity and real stakes. I was terrified when Cate took away Sam's emotions, I swore he was going to kill her for a second. Gen V outdid the The Boys for me with there first season. Cate and Sam breaking out the students from The Woods was so beautiful. This was X-Men The Last Stand reimagined. ❤❤❤
Gen V did the seemingly impossible. Made a great show with a diverse cast that didnt seemed forced and vomit inducing. Kudos to them. Representation shouldnt be at the expense of great story and well developed characters. Marvel needs to just hire everyone associated with this.
This was a great season really enjoyed the show overall. I think Jordan was one of my favorite characters because you got to see the growth that they had from the first time we meet them until the end. As far as Homeland I like what Homeland brings because he is the embodiment of the hypocrisy because he holds people to different standards than himself I mean how many soups has he murdered he's killed a few for like no reason including black noir. yet he tries to hold others like a train and now Marie to the standard you don't kill your own. As far as people rooting for HOME lander I don't think that's a big deal because I look at it like Loki we all root for Loki on his show in Loki straight up murdered a bunch of people.
I thought maybe Marie would pull the Gen V or the virus out of someone's blood. That would have been amazing. I still loved it and glad the 4 didn't die.
she probably can but she spent most of the season using the silly whips instead of learning how to use her abilities she just upgraded to the explosion thing like neuman
@@Stabity while that is nice i dont want the angry people getting mad because a woman is getting too strong so hopefully they just let ryan beat his own father and not her and she could beat victoria
@@Igivegdparent I would rather see the Gen V crew do their own thing and stay away from the boys cast. I think story developments should crossover and maybe a cameo here and there would work but mixing the two doesn't seem like it would work to me.
Everything you said about HL was spot on. To lose that nuance will make him just another Stormfront/psycho without depth. But HL helping Ryan when he was overwhelmed, protecting him etc, his inability to go full support of Stormfront, likely the only person who came close to matching his nutsness. His embarrassment when caught drinking cows milk…haha. He had a human side, not just a monster side. And if that goes, I think they essentially lose the character since he’s been developed that way over the course of the past two seasons. I’m not familiar with the comics though. Maybe in those there was no real nuance to him. I hope there will be in S4
i could potentially see a future, long after Homelander, Butcher and the others are gone, and after Marie and the others have grown up, where Marie's sister and Homelander's son re-estabilish a new rivalry/relationship that stems from their previous attachments.
Anybody else think that Cate is a parody of Grace? Sounds kinda crazy, but A. They look eerily similar (same exact haircut), and B. The media=mind control from a parody perspective makes sense. Also grace is a huge X-Men fan. Idk mostly I saw how similar they looked.
Homelander was always an evil person who was did good things when convenient or absolutely required for his mental health/image. He had a bad life and was treated like a product than person but he was always flawed. There are times where he’s genuine with ryan, and noir in his own way. We can sympathize with him because we’ve seen him be human, seen his mask fall, and seen him at his lowest(like us, he’s not perfect) but he is not grey let’s be clear. He’s a savage manchild and a bully, that’s his character at the end of the day. and when he realizes he can fully be that and not lose support that’s why he is the way he is now, especially after the ending of season 3.
I think Marie’s sister will think she is still a monster for “attacking the university”. Annabeth will probably be a Vought or Homelander puppet. 🤷🏾♀️
I'm about to start the episode, and I gotta say, I don't understand why the main group is so upset that Cate killed Indira. She was very clearly a horrible person, who's been actively horrible to them personally too. And they know Cate's been manipulated by her for years! You'd think they'd be understanding and not upset 😐 Edit: Just finished the ep. I feel like there should be one episode, unless they literally continue with their story entirely in the next The Boys season (which I doubt, they'll probably just focus on Marie). I didn't expect Marie to blow up Cate's arm lol. I'm also surprised Homelander didn't kill Cate instantly (or anyone). He doesn't care about these characters, so I thought he'd just kill Cate and capture Marie (and only Marie).
I get what youre saying grace but homelander was shown for like 20 seconds i think youre getting ahead of yourself saying he has no nuance. I do see him going complete villain meaning no pretending to care about people and his image to the public because he knows now there are people that will still support him no matter what
13:59 They did, remember in the season two finale of the boys, butcher placed a bunch of those speakers playing that whistle in the forest to lure homelander away from Ryan
I have another theory about how Homelander might die..the virus that Victoria Newman stole could be used to kill him..I have a feeling Grace Mallory has someone keeping tabs on Victoria...I like ur theory on Maries sister being one of the seven..i mean she definitely has powers..that could be interesting..I just hope we see these main characters from Gen V pop up in Boys Season 4...they were so likable.....
I'm so excited to see more of Marie's powers. Since she can control blood, does that make her a bigger threat to Homelander? I also hope we get to see more of Marie and Jordan. I loved their scenes together and their dynamic. Side note: I looked it up and there will be a black woman joining the Seven in season 4 and her name is Sister Sage. Could she be Marie's sister?
I don't see any reason why Marie can't blow up Homelander's head off from across the room. I think her powers are stronger because she can manipulate blood which all supes have, including Homelander.
What a showdown! Now that's how you do it Marvel. I actually thought we were going to see a battle with Homelander when he showed up that I literally held my breath...That was intense 😅
I think that Homelander was only held back by his fear that he wouldn't be loved. Then he slipped and found out that people would love him anyway.
Agreed. I don't see the nuance that Grace sees. Like at all.
and iirc in the comics he follows a path relatively similar where he is a bit tame at first and then go all out

Agreed, her sister is probably a supe as well.
Oh, I like that BETTER than killing him, stripping him of his powers.
When I saw Homelander entering the last episode of Gen V my first thought was: time to kill him off.
With the melted camera on ep1 and how Marie's power developed, I thought the big twist was going to be camera footage showing goldenboy didn't 😵 himself and that Marie used her powers to make him explode.
But wasn't Golden Boy on fire when he exploded? Plus I don't think Marie's powers were developed yet.
Wow what a great ending. Gen V turned out to be really good. Way better than Loki season 2 which so far is really underwhelming. So excited for the boys season 4!!
Agreed, I’ve been way more excited for GEN V than Loki
Interesting
Loki s2 is fantastic lmao, and one of the best directed mcu projects
@@ThomasMeesits really not its average.
they used the sonic blast in season 2 of the boys. thats how butcher and becka were able to get ryan away from homelander.
Emma Frost is my favorite X-Men character and I'm loving how similar Cate's character is. Considering Cate can already hear thoughts, she could have the potential to use her compulsion telepathically.
Disney should take a page from The Boys writers who know how to create complex woman characters.
I think Marie Moreau will save butcher by removing the V24 from his blood
Oh snap!!!! That's a brilliant theory.
So I realize I don't have to correct you and I don't mean to come off as snarky by doing it butt lack of emotion actually makes a person a sociopath as opposed to a psychopath..... that being said what a brilliant observation Grace
Excellent finale love that homelander saw marie and the do gooders as an enemy. Though how in the hell is she still alive?
I think Marie might be indestructible and can rapidly heal herself and others with her bloody powers. The invisible dude was whooping her butt but it didn’t affect her.
@@ms.bubs4fun506 true because translucent was very strong and they had to blow him up from the inside
thats when i knew marie was getting stronger when she took those hits and didnt bleed
but too take homelanders lasers is freaking insane
im surprised he didnt kill her on the spot because she could be a threat if she grows with her abilities unless he doesnt know much about her or is super arrogant
Voight only cares about PR. They probably didn’t want Homelander and the public to know about the Woods.
To me it’s to cover their asses. If they didn’t turn on Marie, she would have probably told the world about what vought was doing in the school. Cate and sam I feel are less likely and can be more easily manipulated not to.
That’s my best guess
@@emmanueluthis is a good point, I’d like to know how they’d keep the school quiet. Mostly every teen supe had witnessed what happened.
Gen V was so good. I can't wait for season 2. I was on the edge of my seat until the last second.
The Boys was never pure escapism. Everything about The Boys is based on reality.
Homelander was always about Supe superiority. After getting away with killing a civilian, of course it would changed him to become more extreme. This Homelander makes perfect sense. I understand the problem with it.
That was as Voght an ending as we could have ever possibly gotten 😅
I never thought Homelander had nuance. Since season 1, I’ve seen him as a psychopath.
THE POST CREDIT SCENE. IT'S BEEN AGES SINCE I'VE BEEN THIS EXCITED FOR THE FUTUREVOF A SUPERHERO STORY. AMAZING. THEY ARE THE "NEW MARVEL"
I just looked at the poster for Gen V and I noticed something. Look at Cate. Her arm is literally cut off. Talk about foreshadowing
I really appreciate it Grace 🤗
Your the BEST ❤️♥️💜
And didn’t Marie’s powers kick in late? So they could of given up on her and tried the other daughter.
I don’t think sister sage is related to Marie. I think they hired her to spite Marie as she always wanted to be the first black woman in the Seven.
Funny enough Grace they did show us in S2 that sonic noise hurt Homelander and Ryan in the woods. I just realized it myself!
Marie was definitely my favorite. She’s really easy to root for and did such a fantastic job playing the part. I’m looking forward to seeing her in future episodes. As far as Homelander, always evil. I’m looking forward to his demise.
GoldenBoy is also popular, because he didn't get much of a chance to do anything wrong. He was just a cool bro that got killed off early.
I LOVED GEN V. It’s funny since the beginning I always thought cate could be defeated if someone were to just rip off her hands… and now look what happened 😂
The Boys without Homelander and Butcher will meet the same fate as MCU after Tony and Cap
Tbh I never saw homelander as a gray area character. I always thought he was awful with barely controlled destructive urges
Marie's sister could be Sister Sage, who is a new character next season of the boys, who is a black superhero.
LOVED it from beginning to end. Love Marie actually all the Gen V core sups are great. Love you're excitement in the review.
I enjoy them both. At 61 years young I’ve been raised with comic books and the dream of live shows were in its early attempts terribly sad. Now I’m getting the sups I’ve always wanted.
This was a banger of an episode and an epic, fantastic finale! 🔥
I was however also disappointed that Sam turned so sharply and easily against Emma, I would’ve like have seen him be more conflicted about being so staunchly against her rather than what we saw.
I also didn’t like how they didn’t build up Andre’s dad’s illness or his, it just seemed to come out of nowhere and how is this not a side effect any other characters are experiencing?
I kept thinking, if compound V has side effects this bad from using it, do they really need a virus? Lol
Homelander landing and then going right at Marie really threw me off too, I was not expecting that AT ALL!
Even though Cate is bad I love her and she’s my fave aside from Marie!
Marie & Jordan are sooooo popular online - TikTok is flooded with them
Loving how I genuinely feared all 4 real heroes actually died there at the end.
I’m just assuming the show will end with butcher and homelander killing each other
I binged the show in two days. It was great! Wish you would have done episodes breakdowns what a wild ride.
Gen V did the seemingly impossible. Made a great show with a diverse cast that didnt seemed forced and vomit inducing. Kudos to them. Representation shouldnt be at the expense of great story and well developed characters. Marvel needs to just hire everyone associated with this.
Guys. Let’s be honest with ourselves, the moment homelander is done , the entire franchise is done. You know it , I know it. We all know it. 😂
I still loved it and glad the 4 didn't die.
she probably can but she spent most of the season using the silly whips instead of learning how to use her abilities
she just upgraded to the explosion thing like neuman
@@Igivegdparent I'm looking forward to seeing where her character goes. She could be insanely powerful
@@Stabity while that is nice
i dont want the angry people getting mad because a woman is getting too strong so hopefully they just let ryan beat his own father and not her
and she could beat victoria
@@Igivegdparent I would rather see the Gen V crew do their own thing and stay away from the boys cast. I think story developments should crossover and maybe a cameo here and there would work but mixing the two doesn't seem like it would work to me.
@@Stabity i agree
I'd rather them stay seperate as well
Unless they need to come together for some huge threat like the virus spreading or something
Stormfront was a white supremacist and Homelander is a supe supremacist so there is a difference between them that they can work with.
I literally yelled out WTF so loud at the end. 😮
THE EPISODE WAS INSANE!
i could potentially see a future, long after Homelander, Butcher and the others are gone, and after Marie and the others have grown up, where Marie's sister and Homelander's son re-estabilish a new rivalry/relationship that stems from their previous attachments.
The possibilities are endless, this could go on for another 10 years. Especially since each season drops every 2 years....lol
You'd think they'd be understanding and not upset 😐
Edit: Just finished the ep.
Another reason why telekinesis is the best power to have lol.
Homelander, A-train and The Deep. Then firecracker and sister sage confirmed. Sam and Kate would make that seven...
The facility is so nice because they were the ones that actually saved them
I get what youre saying grace but homelander was shown for like 20 seconds i think youre getting ahead of yourself saying he has no nuance.
THE EPISODE WAS INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jeff was clearly working for Vought. He spoke on the phone to one of the people at the meeting
Is Stormfront dead? I thought she survived the blast from Homelanders son?
