Hey real quick about the outlet. The GFCI most likely was not faulty. Often times the gasket on those outside covers is worn OR was not properly sealed. Also make sure you tape above the outlet directing water away from the top of the cover.
If the water gets behind the cover it will sit on the hot/neutral studs on the outlet that are only about 1/2” apart and Arc! That’s the problem, it will not trip the GFI because the fault is before the internal electronics and, because it is only a partial short, in many instances it will not trip the breaker. It will just keep arcing at super hot temps until something bad happens. If only a little water made it inside, may quickly evaporate and stop. If it is a lot of water, then you will eventually have flames. The scariest is if the wiring is not in conduit, if it is a plastic box and Romex, we may be repairing more than an outlet 😮
Or, you can find the best service in your area and call them. Meet up with them. Explain your desire to learn from the best. Ask if you can work with them. In my neck of the woods, people are MORE than willing to help, they will pay you, even though you refuse, and they will feed you business afterwards. You don't have to pay the guys that sold you overpriced equipment, to learn how to use it! Just my thoughts, and what I've done. It's worked out great. Love the channel!
