@@psy_99 true, but he also is aware of his weak body. Unlike flesh, machine and robotics don't become weaker. The glorious evolution is just a method of helping the poor and the weak ones from Zaun
That scene with Jayce and Mel getting intimate with each other really feels like cheating even though Jayce and Viktor aren't dating. Like I actually felt the betrayal while watching that scene 💀 But then again that's probably the feeling the creators were going for.
@@aizen.v5777 THAT'S what they were going for with that scene?? Yeah no; it felt much more like a love triangle with a hextech twist than any lofty philosophical dichotomy. I thought the feeling of sexual betrayal was intentional. Dang.
The choice of parallelism between the scene where Viktor falls apart and Jayce is very well chosen. A lot can be learned from it. They obviously did it on purpose to compare two completely different scenes to be shocking. We can think that Jayce has fully chosen to be a council rather than being a man of discovery, he is now a symbol more than anything else. The previous scenes with Jayce show that he chose to lie and be in politics rather than being fair, at odds with what he was before and Viktor's beliefs. He chose Mel over Viktor. We can say that Viktor is killing himself by working representing the people of the undercity. While Jayce is running smoothly representing the people of Piltover. The cup placed in Viktor's place before the speech, crushing him, is a good representation of what is happening. Everything is a game of the most "deserving". Viktor is almost always relegated as an assistant, is nothing else even though Jayce gives him a more important role in his eyes. Jayce also chose to "protect" Piltover rather than helping the people of the undercity which Hextech was supposed to serve. All this will reinforce the feeling of rejection for Viktor. I would have more things to say as a student in animation. But a lot of shots can say a LOT of things just in a simple character position, camera position etc.
That's what I initially thought but after finishing the show, I don't think what you said has happened... yet. Because Jayce still clearly puts Victor first, in everything including the cup scene. He did ask Victor to go on stage only to be rejected, and he probably was too stressed to question Viktor's true feelings. But the scene that really made me change my mind is ironically the love scene/Viktor failing scene which you used to prove your point. The fact that Jayce left Mel to meet Viktor in hospital knowing that Mel would be pissed off suggests that Jayce still values Viktor over everything, which shows alot about his character. In fact as of now, Jayce has made more contributions to Undercity than Viktor, because he knows with his councellor position, there are things he really can do to help. Viktor keeps on saying, hextech needs to be used to improve lives but how? Maybe he is asking Jayce to forget about politics and fully focus on hextech which is possible. But Vi wearing the mining gloves is a dramatic irony as she is using a tool to cause violence. I think both Viktor and Jayce is right, and they perfectly balance each other out. Viktor listens to Jayce but more importantly, Jayce always listens to Viktor even though he doesn't have to. I personally like Jayce more also because even though he's just a scientist, he's more than that, a fighter, politician, friend, and although he might look like a "new face", he is incredibly intelligent as shown when Silco, as wise and veteran as you get, tries to manipulate Jayce but instead fails.
@@flyatnight-1812 Yes, after finishing the first season a lot has changed as much as the characters. What I "predicted" will surely happen, but not now. I could talk about it for hours, it's so interesting the way everything is presented. And yet, what we can say now may change as much in the following season. Parallelism is used a lot in this series. But this scene after Viktor collapsed, proves that yes, Jayce is a good friend since he leaves Mel to go to Viktor. Soon after, he returns to Mel like a lifeline, not knowing how to take the news of Viktor's impending death too much. The two characters Viktor and Mel are very important to Jayce. They form the two opposing poles which disturb Jayce. However, the sense of parallelism still works as a premise on the tension in the relationship between Jayce and Viktor. Rejection, not being understood like when Jayce declares a dam of the bridge between Piltover and Zaun because people in the undercity are dangerous and the difference between people above and below. Or when Mel offers to create weapons. Jayce is confused between his values, his role and his relationships. Jayce has more power than Viktor on how to help people in the undercity yes, he even proved it by forcing the council to approve the deal between him and Silko (a deal he won). But Viktor would like Jayce to come back to their hextech because he's dying so no one will be able to continue these advances? Viktor is an idealist I would say despite where he comes from. It's quite ironic to say to that he is very humanist and that he wants progress to help people, but on the one hand, he himself will become what is least "human" possible, a human-robot. The two characters are very well balanced yes. They both lost their values after a while and they realize it after a huge sacrifice (Jayce a child and Viktor Skye). I would even say they work well with Mel. Mel who ends up finally rejecting her mother. Anything I could have said before may very well turn out to be false or true. I'm not in the head of the studio but it's quite amazing to see so much symbolism and so many small details. But I agree with you. Like the scene where Viktor starts running and catches up with a boat, a boat he had never been able to catch as a child.
@@psychiomoth I hope it does not happen though but it will probably be in vain xd. I know the result, but I don't know how. Arcane is a really good show that can get people outside of the LOL community to watch. And it's quite possible that we are a second season but in 2023 it seems to me if I read correctly. In pre-production there is no longer the concept art to do for the regular characters as well as the chara design of the characters and buildings, they probably already have the script for the sequel and they already have the 3D models (except for Viktor sui will change a lot on chara level). My take on the sex scene is that while Jayce joins the human (and corrupt) part of Piltover represented by Mel, Viktor keeps in the science and technology side (fusing his blood with hextech) but with that he losses his humanity. This could be the start of Jayce and Viktor going against each other as enemies
These videos always frame exactly what I was thinking while watching these scenes... especially the hex before sex one. I swear the framing had to be deliberate, it has such an alternate double meaning than "Jayce chose humanity and Viktor chose science" that I cannot believe that just overlooked it while making it

Stop insulting Jayce. He didn't know what was happening to Viktor when he slept with Mel. He immediately ran by Viktor's side, leaving Mel's bed to take care of Viktor. He really is trying to improve humanity's life.

@@parisheidi3119 yeah, I've seen a few people act like Mel didn't give a shit about Viktor, but she straight up tells Jayce to spend his time with him over her since he's literally dying
I just finally understood why Jayce could afford to not work on their dream is because hes HEALTHY. This is literally LIFE OR DEATH for Viktor so he cant afford to rest. His time is limited so hextech MUST work, but whether to be able to live a long life or leave a good legacy. Viktor wants to leave his mark in the world by helping both zaunites and those of piltover with his tech.
when i started Arcane, i adored Jayce. he seemed like the innocent guy with a heart of gold who didn't want to do anything but follow his dream, i guess. but, now after finishing it in a day, he pissed me off and i feel bad for Viktor. it was all so jarring to see Jay living his best life and Viktor suffering like he did. it was kind of cute to see how protective Jayce is tho.
Wtf did jayce do? Victor chose not to tell him anything and as soon as he found out he even betrayed the professor just to have a chance at saving him.
I just realised but their first conversation in the show is when Viktor stops Jayce from killing himself, and one of their last conversations is when Jayce stops Viktor from killing himself. I'm gonna go cry now.
Jayce isn't a bad guy???? He's incredibly morally gray, and even ends the show going over the council's head to right all his wrongs. Neither Jayce nor Viktor are bad people.
Hiemerdinger literally doesn't know how human work "Give it a decade or two, and it'll be ready " Human don't live that long heimer that two decades are just a waste of time

@@carlybarly7817 If he just walked on stage he would have stolen it, but he asked Viktor to follow him. Jayce did not care about the crowd's opinion and Vintor wanted to stay back, so personally I don't see it as a bad action really. It diminishes Viktors contribution, but he doesn't seem to mind (yet), he is not a gloryseeker.
I think the symbolism is about how Jayce is represented. Jayce's status as "man of progress" didn't initially contradict his and Viktor's ideals; Viktor knew he played an important role and felt like Jayce respected him as a partner, but was glad to let Jayce take the spotlight. When he says he doesn't want to be an assistant, it means he wants the power to pursue his own scientific goals, and his partnership with Jayce provides just that. At that point, their goals complement each other - Jayce needs Viktor's willingness to take risks, and Viktor needs a partner who respects him but takes over all the "peopling" he doesn't like to do However, it's Jayce's place in the spotlight that grants him political power. Viktor is content using the research to pursue his and Jayce's goals, but as Jayce gets deeper into the politics of Piltover he realizes he has to sacrifice their original intent in order to get on the Counsel's good side This shot isn't representative of Jayce's place in the spotlight covering up Viktor, but rather Jayce's political power getting in the way of Viktor's goals
@@pigeonsyndrome2249 Absolutely, but my comment refers to the title of the video. This scene is not really a "drama" per se because Viktor and Jayce don't have any conflict at the time.

I really like how you can have this really non-kid-like but also not bro-ey close friendship between these two guys without people being like “Oh that’s gay.”. You know the creators knew what they were doing, since they went a similar route with Cait and Vi and instead gave that relationship romantic undertones. I like to think of this as the Lord of the Rings effect, where you have these really intimate, close and trusting friendships between dudes and they don’t come off as gay for a second, which I think challenges male stereotypes in a healthy way.
@Dominik Rain when I first heard him speaking I was like "wow he's definitely russian". he has a strong accent but the way he talks is somehow addicting idk why Lol
Okay, first of all, all the commentary, I love ur mind, second of all, at 3:25 during my first watch I saw it as kind of like… Jayce choosing Mel over Viktor by sleeping with her is literally ‘killing’ Viktor
personally i think Viktor is gay for Jayce and was since the beginning, but Jayce was always either oblivious and friendly, or straight and didn’t care.
i did in fact read all of the commentary i wanna cry i named viktor "pining grad student" for liveblogging to friends purposes the first time he ever showed up but i DIDN'T WANT TO BE RIGHT JAYCE GO GET UR BOY
The bridge scene is what hurt the most and the molotov(?)/fire thingy that one of them people threw really shows how their relationship is burning/falling apart
Knowing how characters will end up already just from in-game lore, even though it might be changed or tweaked a bit. I'm still looking forward to how they do it in animation, I definitely looking forward to Viktor's since he was really the one that interested me with his development. Everyone else I still can get behind of, but as I said. I know pretty much the lore of the characters they've shown. Just don't know if they'll change it or tweak it to fit better entirely
In 4:50 Heimmerdinger saw what Jayce and Viktor couldn't. He knew the hexcore was consuming Viktor because he is now connected to it (because of the blood). He was really worried and they didn't listen to him.
2:37 (just me yapping) i like this moment a lot because sure there's a tomorrow, many actually. But not so many for someone who is chronicly ill and is aware that time is running through their fingers, before they've really managed to leave something memorable behind (the glory of scientific discoveries and inventions that improve people lives). Viktor is aware that sooner or later his condition is gonna worsen to the point where he can barely work and keep developing things to make a positive impact on the world. Plus, Viktor's sense of self-value and self-esteem is mostly based on his intelligence and resilience, because he's well aware that he's "an outcast" and "unwanted" because of his physical condition and his background (being a zaunite). He had to trust himself blindly and work twice as hard as anyone to be really seen, and not even that worked because first he ended being just Heimerdinger's assistant, then Jayce's shadow (after engaging into what initially looked like a beautiful 2-people-project) and finally the poor-ill-zaunite Sorry for the length, I started yapping and couldn't stop
Bro I cant believe Viktor's VA is the same guy who played Daenerys's brother in season one of GOT. The douche bag brother that got the golden crown treatment? Yup. THATS HIM.
the framing w/ the jayce/mel sex scene and viktor's work making it feel like viktor KNOWS what's happening. knows he's losing his loved one. knows he's losing himself and the dream he has. and the inevitability that he loses jayce further. the inevitability that they fall into disappointment and contempt with one another. the inevitability that this man, this best friend, possibly the first and only person viktor has ever loved... will never be his. that he's always going to be just out of reach.
I think the cuts between mel and viktor represent jayce decision to be either a good person,or the arrogant ingame, have at your side a person who is truly in love with you or someone who is just trying to use You (i think thats what mel doing) and being someone who help people more with action then appearing in public to show off or someone who just do things for benefit, and at some point in arcane viktor gonna move on without jayce as he always keep his indecision, well thats just my opinion
yeah I think they're definitely trying to emphasise the genuine care viktor has for jayce (however you decide to interpret it) vs Mel using him for her own gain, and agreed, that viktor will move on and leave jayce with no one.. idk! We'll have to see
i dont understand why Mel has such a bad reputation??? is it a lore thing or what, bc right now i havent noticed anything off with her. also at the heart of it, i believe Jayce and Viktor both want the same thing though they have chosen different paths.

That scene with Jayce and Mel getting intimate with each other really feels like cheating even though Jayce and Viktor aren't dating. Like I actually felt the betrayal while watching that scene 💀 But then again that's probably the feeling the creators were going for.
They apparently were going for Jayce choosing humanity while Viktor chose science. Failed epically guys.
Though it also foreshadows the divorce.

@@DilipKrJha-yb6nv ....problem?
I don't play league but I know how deep and vast the league world is, and a series on league has the potential to really become one of the best universes of this century. I had tried playing once when I was in high school, I got bullyed by a high level to the point where I rage quit). But like WOW, I like the universe and the Lore of the game. Between the cutscenes, the bonuses like comics, the additional informations on the characters and the universe ... it's quite impressive. So I know the future of the characters. So I guess it would go faster than 5 years of development.
But even though I want a second season, I want it to be done right. although it takes longer. Or if not, end on it and tell yourself that it was a good series. :(

My take on the sex scene is that while Jayce joins the human (and corrupt) part of Piltover represented by Mel, Viktor keeps in the science and technology side (fusing his blood with hextech) but with that he losses his humanity. Its not really about that. Its because hes an outsider. Hes just single a Zaun in a Piltover crowd. They wont acknowledge him.
@@Haz1Art Or maybe mans is just shy. Think of that? Either way, he didn't want to be up there. Leave him be and stop pushing narratives.
At that point, their goals complement each other - Jayce needs Viktor's willingness to take risks, and Viktor needs a partner who respects him but takes over all the "peopling" he doesn't like to do
However, it's Jayce's place in the spotlight that grants him political power. Viktor is content using the research to pursue his and Jayce's goals, but as Jayce gets deeper into the politics of Piltover he realizes he has to sacrifice their original intent in order to get on the Counsel's good side
This shot isn't representative of Jayce's place in the spotlight covering up Viktor, but rather Jayce's political power getting in the way of Viktor's goals

If something bad happens to this man, Arcane writers will regret it!
Their situationship is so depressing I'm surprised they're not lesbians
I knew nothing about League, Jayce, and Viktor prior to Arcane and I kept chanting Science Husbands while watching up until episode 5
He had to trust himself blindly and work twice as hard as anyone to be really seen, and not even that worked because first he ended being just Heimerdinger's assistant, then Jayce's shadow (after engaging into what initially looked like a beautiful 2-people-project) and finally the poor-ill-zaunite

before I watched this show, I asked my siblings (who had already seen it) if there were any scenes I should be warned about. they told me about the animal and child death scenes, the general traumatic shit going on the whole time, etc, and they also said "there's some extreme het nonsense in one episode" referring to Jayce getting some while Viktor almost fuckign died.
They’re basically Bruce Banner and Tony Stark
I screamed every time Jace left Viktor alone because NOOOOOOO EVERY TIME HES LEFT ALONE HE ALMOST DIES HE CANT BE TRUSTED ON HIS OWN COME B A C K
1:04 did anyone notice the way he looked at him or no?
