  • This AAA battery made of supercapacitor has 3 characteristics: one is fast charging speed; the other is almost unlimited cycle life; third, it is environmentally friendly and pollution-free.
    But this battery has a relatively small capacity and is not suitable for electrical appliances with high power consumption. It is suitable for electrical appliances with low power consumption, such as TV remote controls.

    Blinking LED on charger, at 4:50, doesn't mean the caps are charged. This particular charger has no such indication. Blinking means that fail or incomaptible battery is inserted. However I believe, the caps are charged to some point during that few seconds (altough not fully).

    It looks like those would carry a fraction of a watt-hour combined, but may work for the application. How long does the remote control last under normal usage?

    • @DIYQiQi
      @DIYQiQi  Год назад +2

      About a week or so, depending on the actual situation. However, the self-discharge characteristics of supercapacitors make it impossible to use for a long time.😀I have found a better way, Will upload video later.

    Can invent to shake it to generate energy ?
    I mean the size of AAA battery with coil inside..

    • @DIYQiQi
      @DIYQiQi  2 года назад

      Yes, it can only charge a small capacitor, and it takes a long time to shake it. I don't feel very practical after using it 😅. I'm thinking about other more practical ways.

    It would have been simpler to get pre cut wooden dowels that are the same diameter as a AAA battery. Then cut it in half.

    hmm maybe i can make a 12v UPS for my arm based mediaserver from this, it just has to deliver enough juice for a secure shutdown.

    • @DIYQiQi
      @DIYQiQi  2 года назад +2

      hello, since the supercaps store less power, I recommend using the Lithium battery for making UPS.

  • @Piotr_Majchrzak
    @Piotr_Majchrzak 2 года назад +2

    Supercaps have relatively high self- discharge current, limiting their usefullness

      lithium-ion capacitor (LIC) has low self-discharge radio, < 5% per month.

    Can this be used in conjunction with solar lawn light applications that charge during the day and light in the dark or is too much power generated and the capacitors just explode? Larger supercapacitors such as in 12 VT systems in vehicles don't explode..

    • @DIYQiQi
      @DIYQiQi  9 месяцев назад

      Hello, The energy density of supercapacitors is too small, so this is not suitable for solar lights.

    Will it work with an old 4 AA battery flashlight?

    • @DIYQiQi
      @DIYQiQi  2 года назад

      Probably not, because the flash consumes a lot of power

    • @DIYQiQi
      @DIYQiQi  2 года назад

      After a few flashes, the capacitor's energy is used up.😂

    Hi, I have some questions.
    1. I don't have a voltmeter that can calculate current. May I know how long it will take to charge?
    2. May I know long will the "battery" last?
    Anyway, thanks for your brilliant idea.

    • @DIYQiQi
      @DIYQiQi  Год назад

      Hello,
      1. You can refer to the manual document of the super capacitor, there should be a charge-discharge curve on it.
      2. Due to the self-discharge of supercapacitor, light use can last one to two weeks. Use Lithium-ion supercapacitor (LIC) with larger capacity and less self-discharge may better.

    great video, btw 3:50 you are charging with 1.5volt, does it mean it will have 1.5 volt? and if charging it with 5.0volt, it will have 5.0volt?
    also, can i charge it with handphone charger connecting it directly to the + and - to the battery? will it explode? lol

    • @DIYQiQi
      @DIYQiQi  2 года назад +2

      The remote control max volt is 3V, here using two capacitors, so per cap charging with 1.5V . Super cap max volt is 2.7V, if charging with 5V, it would be damaged. 😅I don't know if it will explode, but you can try😜

      @@DIYQiQi That's about a third as long as if they were left to self-discharge. XD But considering a graphite-based ultracap lasts 5,000 to 10,000 cycles, that's over 100 years! XD

      It would be better if the super capacitor is built-in and wirelessly charged

      I manually charge it with a regulated power supply, and charge it to 2.5V, it can power the 2*1.5v remote control.
