I took some Japanese Maple cuttings on 30th March and have just made a new video on their progress. I would love to try growing them from seed one day. I always like to get a surprise variety of JM and enjoy seeing them return every year after the winter. All the best.
Actually the Japanese call Japanese maples "momiji" while western maples like a sugar maple are referred to as "kaede" but momiji is how they call their own maples.

Understandable lol. Well like the comment above says, Japanese Maples in general can handle winter in Zone 7 pretty well. I wouldn't be too concerned about it.
I have had success with The Seiryu lace leaf Japanese maple that he shows here. I live in California where it gets windy and the tree sits up high gets hit by the wind and the heat occasional 100 degree Fahrenheit days and takes it okay. Leaves never get burnt. I'm pretty amazed how well it does considering how delicate the leaves look. It's a small tree. After about 10 to 12 years it's only 8 ft high with 3-inch diameter trunk
Disappointed that there’s no mention of the yellow leaf with red edging variety that’s shown on the thumbnail picture that made me open this video in the first place! What variety of maple is that?

This spring, after the cold winter in Canada, I just realized that two of my 4 backyard Japanese maple died. A dragon red Japanese maple and a shrimp Japanese maple. Now I’m concerned about the other two. I’ve been watching some videos I some address that the damage can be caused by fungus. How can I know what killed them? In case it is fungus, how can I get rid of it?
Fungal or insect related issues you will want to bring in a plant sample into a nearby Entomology and Plant Pathology clinic- maybe your local college or government should have available. This way they can look into the tissue of the plant to determine issue(s) and give appropriate controls going forward.
There are a lot of factors that go into the answer for this question. It depends on the variety of Japanese Maple, amount of sun your backyard gets, the region you live in, the soil, etc.
Jap maple??? I wouldn't put that as a description. Pretty racist. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jap#:~:text=Jap%20is%20an%20English%20abbreviation,It%20is%20an%20ethnic%20slur.
@Outdoor Inspirations I'm sure, but you should be more careful in the future. It may seem like nothing to you but people have had that screamed at them while they are rounded up and shipped off to internment camps. Happened to my grandparents, lost all the orchards they owned.
Thank you for uploading. Those leafs look a bit like those from hemp. 😀
that’s beautiful 😍🤩

Enjoyed the video James, I did not realize how well the cuttings would respond!

A barking beauty!

Good stuff James! I like the sound of momiji too

Awesome! I think you're turning Japanese .. Maple that is 😆
@@OutdoorInspirations haha
Good idea to make a tree video that shows off trees while they're completely bare 🤣
Gotta do what you gotta do 🙃
Is there any Japanese Maples that top out at about 10-12 feet tall?
Check out Tamukeyama or Butterfly Variegated and any of the weeping varieties
@@OutdoorInspirations Thank you!!!
Hello.. I'm in Zone 7 and want to pot a Japanese maple... can it be left out in freezing cold?
They can take short freezes above ground. You can safeguard by pulling it into the garage overnight. Thanks for the question!
I am also in zone 7. My Sango Kaku was left out in winter. Although this winter was quite mild in Boston. It is thriving.
@@OutdoorInspirations not going to be moving it.. wayyyyy to heavy

I believe that's a Katsura Japanese Maple. It's a beautiful tree and we may make a video on it in the future!

Hey Buddy my friend have japanese red Japanese maple about 60 years age
Wow, I bet that is a beautiful sight to see.
Can we use this Japanese maple in our backyard? and also what is the maximum height and width of this tree?
There are a lot of factors that go into the answer for this question. It depends on the variety of Japanese Maple, amount of sun your backyard gets, the region you live in, the soil, etc.
Would be nice if you mentioned how tall & wide they get. Oh well......
Thx for suggestion- we added this info for you in the description 😃
That tree must cost about $350-$400 today. It could be 25 years old.
Yes indeed- they grow slow and cost alot!
Too bad as Sango Kaku gets older, it loses all bark color.
Agreed, it is too bad. But at least you get that brilliant color for many years. And the foliage is still beautiful
They are still very beautiful even when older. Their foliage is outstanding.
Haha your surname Fontaine, as In carpi is betulus frans Fontaine 😉 very upright in itself
Ah yes the good ole Fontaine Hornbeam
use everything as a specimen....
