Stunning! The choice to use foliage plants with the Japanese maples was a fantastic choice so nothing takes away from the beauty of the trees. Great job you all!

Those Japanese maples are gorgeous! There used to be a Japanese maple nursery about 10 miles from my house. You had to call to make an appointment to go to this nursery. It was a magical place. The trees were like the owner's children. Purchasing one of his trees was like adopting one. I bought a small one 14 years ago, and now it's above 15-20 wide.

I only wish I had a shady spot on my property. It was a hay field so it is wide open. I have only been here 4 years, and moved in during the pandemic. I have a regular maple and have planted two scotch pines. I'm working on more in the fall! Your garden is lovely! A little more each season!

A few years ago I noticed something red in the woods behind our house just over our fence. So my husband dug it up and it turned out to be a Japanese maple tree. Very tiny. But it grew. I used to go out and see it would come up to my waist, now about 5 feet high! I know how expensive they can be so to find one for free is quite a gift!

Wow Steph, you really did your homework, I could never remember these difficult names of all of the maples . I love 💕 Japanese Maples ,too. I have a Bloodgood and an Emperor One and a green one of which I don’t have a tag anymore. When I moved to my house in 2020 there were 3 little red maples growing in my woods , don’t know how they got there but are growing in my yard now , still super small

Hi Amy! Thank you so much! I love my plants so much, its like my children and remembering each of their names is like my job as their parent lol. The Bloodgood and Emperor One are beautiful. I would love to add an emperor 1 to our front yard at some point. The seedlings happen here too! We have a red one in our patio bed right now. They grow slowly at first, then really pick up speed a few years in. Enjoy them! 🍁

Thanks for the lesson on Japanese maples! They’re beautiful! Have you tried making an invisible fence with fishing line for the deer? I watch Backyard Blooms with Kim and she says it works. She strings fishing line (5 horizontal lines) around her property and it scares the deer when they rub up against it. She has lots of blooms this year that the deer have eaten in the past. Might be worth a try.

What a great garden idea! You've inspired me to create a Japanese maple specimen garden in our yard! We live on six acres in Lancaster County, PA, zone 7 (formerly 6b). My goal is to create my own "Longwood Gardens" here in our space.
