    I took some Japanese Maple cuttings on 30th March and have just made a new video on their progress. I would love to try growing them from seed one day. I always like to get a surprise variety of JM and enjoy seeing them return every year after the winter. All the best.

    Actually the Japanese call Japanese maples "momiji" while western maples like a sugar maple are referred to as "kaede" but momiji is how they call their own maples.

    • @OutdoorInspirations

      They can take short freezes above ground. You can safeguard by pulling it into the garage overnight. Thanks for the question!

      I have had success with The Seiryu lace leaf Japanese maple that he shows here. I live in California where it gets windy and the tree sits up high gets hit by the wind and the heat occasional 100 degree Fahrenheit days and takes it okay. Leaves never get burnt. I'm pretty amazed how well it does considering how delicate the leaves look. It's a small tree. After about 10 to 12 years it's only 8 ft high with 3-inch diameter trunk

    This spring, after the cold winter in Canada, I just realized that two of my 4 backyard Japanese maple died. A dragon red Japanese maple and a shrimp Japanese maple. Now I’m concerned about the other two. I’ve been watching some videos I some address that the damage can be caused by fungus. How can I know what killed them? In case it is fungus, how can I get rid of it?

    • @OutdoorInspirations
      @OutdoorInspirations  3 года назад +1

      Fungal or insect related issues you will want to bring in a plant sample into a nearby Entomology and Plant Pathology clinic- maybe your local college or government should have available. This way they can look into the tissue of the plant to determine issue(s) and give appropriate controls going forward.

      There are a lot of factors that go into the answer for this question. It depends on the variety of Japanese Maple, amount of sun your backyard gets, the region you live in, the soil, etc.
