    We want to send you a powerful free resource report called CPAP Mastery Toolkit. It reveals, simple yet effective tools we use to help so many people solve their CPAP problems for good. These folks initially struggled to use their CPAP to the point they hated it, dreaded the thought of sleeping at night with their CPAP and was about to give up. We helped them overcome their problems and now they honestly look forward to sleeping with their CPAP. We have successfully helped thousands of people (for the last 20 clinical years specializing in the treatment of sleep apnea and we are still doing so.) We are just sharing what seems to work for most struggling CPAP users. Click the link to get this very useful CPAP Mastery Toolkit - www.cpaphelpdes...

    In part 7 of 8 short videos, I show & explain:
    - Very Critical information that effects your health -- You must know it !!
    - Secret Button -- most people don't know this.
    - Why I like the data shown in this Resmed CPAP better then Respironics CPAP.
    Different brands of CPAP machines perform very differently. If you take the time to watch our video reviews you will (hopefully) have enough information to make the right choice before deciding to purchase a CPAP & Heated Humidifier.
    Weigh out the Pros & Cons first. It will save you money and your patience.

    My husband have been on this machine for a little over a month. At the beginning he could not handle the high pressure and was ramp time 20. For the last week he have been complaining about not getting air etc. Now this high tech machine is not exactly user friendly but that was only until I found this video. I was able to pause and check his machine and what took a week I was able to do in less then 10 minutes with the help of this video. I believe Home medical should give people the option of checking out a video. Yes we called them all to hear " his is what normally happens please call back if you need help" We have been very busy and thinks about this at bedtime....Thanks for this video I believe we may be getting progress now!

    Thank you so much for this video! I'm one of the many people who didn't know about the extended sleep report. I followed your instructions and found out that I've got lots of mask leakage - 24L/min. I'll have to do more research to solve my leak problem - but thanks for getting me started on taking a more active role in my own health care. Great work!

    You are so welcome Hannah. You can only improve what you can measure. Think about it…..otherwise how would you ever know if you are achieving your goal, staying stagnant or drifting away from it. That's why I made this particular video.

    For years I didn't know what was wrong with me. I was always fatigued and tired during the day, especially after lunch or afternoon. My mental focus was fuzzy and often I would wake up with horrible headaches that lasted all day. I felt like crap. Three years ago I had a sleep study. I stopped breathing hundreds of times during the night and my oxygen level dropped into the low 60's Normal is above 90 percent saturation. I got my RESMED S9 machine and it has changed my life! It took a while to get used to wearing a mask but now I wouldn't be without my machine every night. In fact on rare occasions such as a power outage of if I go camping and can't use my machine, I feel like hell the next day. It makes all the difference in the world. Please have a sleep study and get checked. It will save your life!

    The AHI must be kept to 5.0 or below to avoid getting heart problems.
    I lowered my AHI to below 3.0 by not eating dinner and sleeping only on my side.
    Good video thanks.

    e) Practice using the CPAP during the daytime sitting at your kitchen table. Thus you avoid the undue pressure to master it immediately. Lie on the couch and watch TV with it or work on the computer. That’s what I did.
    f) Watch the video on how to use the Heated Humidifier. - Complete Insider Review - Resmed H5i Heated Humidifier...If you haven’t already.
    g) Use a small funnel to pour the distilled water.

  • @cpaphelpdesk
    @cpaphelpdesk  11 лет назад +2

    Every Home Medical Equipment company has tons of used machines in their warehouse collecting dust. They usually have less then 3 months of usage- above 40% of new users will give up and return their CPAP within the first 3 months. Shop around first. Speak to the Branch manager if you expect to get a better discount. Explain your financial situation and most of them will help. Choose a company that will also replace your first Mask within the first 30 days for free if you happen to hate it.

  • @cpaphelpdesk
    @cpaphelpdesk  12 лет назад +1

    h) Have a family member/friend transfer the water to small plastic containers for you (If you are unable to do it). This will make it easier for you to handle it and pour.
    i) Please be patient with yourself, in my experience the "average user" will require close to 6 months and longer to get used to it and sleep all through the night with it. However some lucky people will get used to it very quickly. Persistence and patience will pay off.

    Have your home medical equipment company do a download and give you a report . Then have your doctor interpret the results. You also can ask the home medical equipment company if the report is indicating large leaks. The info button will indicate how many hours you actually had the mask on your face while the machine was running.

    According to the manufacturer you are supposed to use distilled water only. I had a patient who was a Chemist, clarified it this way for me ….”when you boil water you get steam. Now you catch that steam and put that in the bottle. That’s distilled water. Not the water that’s left behind boiling away in the pot.” What and how he said it always stuck with me. …. I am so glad you liked the video.

    Just a suggestion .... have the home care company print out the report (for free) and you send it to the doctor. Ask if the doctor would consider changing the settings for now and see if there is a difference until your next appointment in 2 months time. Share with the doctor "your concern". Do this over the phone and fax or drop by the doctors office. I have seen many many many doctors do this for their patients with no appointments.

    Thanks...I'll be have to more than likely wait till Tuesday after the long weekend for my home care company to do this. The last time I was in around late Feb early March they only downloaded what they needed, but I will ask them to down load the entire memory this time.

  • @cpaphelpdesk

    @motherofthedrummer Perhaps - Check your stats with the full face mask. Also consider using a CPAP Mask Liner - Remzzzs It works. Also get a printout of your DATA card and show your doctor - they are more qualified to analyze and interpret that data. Generally speaking with this Resmed unit.. many sleep doctors I work with get very concerned when your leak rate is 24 L/min and higher (not 2.4L/min). The rising AHI is troubling . Consider CPAP mask liner.

    2 reasons not to use tapwater one is mineral build up, second is clorine oh and I forgot floride. Anyway YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE BREATHING EITHER FLURIDE OR CLORINE IN YOUR NOSE. Especially heated Cloride what does that make kiddies? It might not get to that point since its just a humidifier. Clorine in the snoot and lungs is really irritating.

    Well its a year later...and my pressure is now between 15 to 16 & my average AHI is between 4.1 to 5.5...with no leaks though. I still have another 2 months to go before I can even see the doctor about this. :)
    With cutbacks to our health system I'm guess I'm going to have to beg for another study to be done.

    This generally means your CPAP did a good job and addressed all your Apnea and Hypopnea events last night. There is nothing for you to do. Also depending on the time of day you read your screen, at a certain time the CPAP will reset all readings to zero. It does not reset your CPAP pressure just the AHI, Leak .....etc to zero.

    Very helpful video. I've been using the ResMed S9 Autoset for several months now. I feel better when I wake up, but I still get very drowsy throughout the day. Any opinions on ordering a ResMed S9 online, as opposed to paying the much-inflated price my doctor charges to "rent" the machine?

    • @cpaphelpdesk
      @cpaphelpdesk  10 лет назад

      1. Good idea. Usually much cheaper.
      2. You could also buy a used CPAP from any Durable Medical equipment company near you. Many of them have used CPAP with less than a 3 months use. Negotiate a better price.
      3. In most places in the USA ,it is not the doctor who charges to rent the CPAP……it is the person's health insurance policy that dictates those rules. Many of them will rent for 10 to 13 months and after that point the machine is yours. Call your insurance company and find out.
      4. The benefit you loose out buy buying online is…….you can't drive up to your local medical equipment company and ask them for help or instructions from a person. Some people need that physical one and one help.
      5. Still Drowsy …. are you sleeping close to 8 hours with it? The more hours you sleep the better you get. Download the card and have your doctor interpret the data. She/he can than make changes on your CPAP settings.
      6. I am so glad the video was able to help.

    Hi, i have a question. When I press the info button, there is no data for usage and AHI. But if I press the info button and setup button together I am able to see. Is there something wrong with the settings? Thanks.

    • @cpaphelpdesk
      @cpaphelpdesk  10 лет назад

      At a certain time during the day/afternoon the machine resets the information it recorded from the previous nights use. The information is still stored in the CPAP's hard drive. But the unit zeros everything out usually at a particular time in the afternoon.The best time to check is when you get up.You should be able to see it then.

    Hi, my husband had been diagnosed with OSA. The doctor is based in India and he has advised that my husband buy the Resmed s9 escape auto machine. Do you have any reviews on that product compared to the Resmed S9 autoset? Thanks

    • @cpaphelpdesk
      @cpaphelpdesk  10 лет назад

      Unfortunately I don't. However The Escape is the lower end model of the Resmed Auto CPAP family. Most sleep specialist that are associated with major hospitals where they do a lot of research and work in advancing the field of sleep medicine……. (in my experience only) they use the Resmed S9 Autoset, Philips Respironics Remstar Auto and the Fischer & Paykel ICON Auto CPAP. The kind of data it records and provides for these doctors are very rich, robust and extremely helpful every time their patients come back for a follow up visit. Based on the type of information they get, these doctors make better informed adjustments to the treatment protocol. Hope this helps a little bit.

    • @cibyoommen1
      @cibyoommen1 10 лет назад

      cpaphelpdesk Thank you for that information. I am very skeptical about getting the Escape and would like him to get the autoset. Can you also tell me how much the equipment cost including the mask/accessories etc in the country that you're in which im guessing is the US? Sorry if I'm asking too many questions Thanks

    • @MozartRatao
      @MozartRatao 10 лет назад

      Escape is the lowest S9 model it has the rigid CPAP setting (no auto adjustment) and no possibility to record the data on the card. Moreover the difference but this is not the problem. Thsi biggest difference is that Escape ventilates ALL of the apneas (including central ones), while ELite and Autoset don't. This is important for compliance - ventilation of central apnea is perceived as auncomfortable for the patient. The Elite and Autoset can possibly reduce the incidence of so colled complex sleep apnea (this occurs during the treatment of OSA when central apneas start to appear thus compliocatibng the OSA treatment - in severe cases of comples apnea CPAP is uselesss).

    I've been on the S9 for 6wks now, I switched from a full face to a nasal mask as I was having trouble with the mask leaking. I purchased a comfort gel & got a gel nasal piece as it was irritating the bridge of my nose..for the most part my leak rate is 0.0L/min but some nights it has reached as high as 2.4L/min..with my pressure being @15.0 & AHI @4.3...could this be from air leaks that my leak is at 2.4. I use a chin strap, in fact everything is new since I got the S9.

    I go through a container of water every 5 hrs. Is that normal? My humidity is set on 2.5

    • @cpaphelpdesk
      @cpaphelpdesk  10 лет назад +1

      How much distilled water is used is based on:
      a) The CPAP heated humidifier setting. The higher the setting number, the more moisture you will get. Thus use up more water.
      b)Your room temperature at night. The colder it is..the more water it will use up. The heater needs to run more frequently just to maintain the temperature and humidity level in cooler temperature rooms.
      c) Actual hours of use. The more hours you use the CPAP the more water it will use.

    • @billmonroe8826

      Temp. is set on 70 degrees and the room temp is 67 degrees. Was just trying to have it go longer than 5 hrs. 8 would be great! Was wondering if other people had theirs last longer and if so what their settings are. thx

    • @cpaphelpdesk
      @cpaphelpdesk  10 лет назад

      bill monroe A room temperature of 67 degrees is definitely on the cooler side which would cause your heated humidifier to work hard all through the night. It is trying to maintain and give you 70 degrees in an environment that is trying to rapidly cool the temperature downwards. There are 2 scenarios:
      a) Lower your CPAP Heated Humidifier temperature to match your room temperature.
      or
      b) Raise your bedroom temperature to match the temperature of the CPAP Heated Humidifier.
      So Sorry for the long winded answer. I am trying to benefit you and others who are reading this.

    In the first info screen is the AHI number per hour or for the night?

    • @cpaphelpdesk
      @cpaphelpdesk  9 лет назад +1

      It is an average AHI for the night. Just in keep in mind if you have a high leak rate, that will cause an incorrect AHI reading. It will then incorrectly show the AHI is higher.

    • @ruger111dog
      @ruger111dog 9 лет назад

      cpaphelpdesk Thanks for your reply! I use a FFM and my leak rate is usually at 8 I have been on the machine for about a week now and my AHI is 8 to 11. If I understand you correctly if I had a AHI reading of 11 it means I had only 11 apnea incidences the intire night? If so thats good, If it were 8 to 11 per hour that would still be minor OSA and pose health risks. Right?

    • @cpaphelpdesk
      @cpaphelpdesk  9 лет назад

      ruger111dog You are welcome. I can't speak for your sleep physician but most physicians that I work with will find it unacceptable. That means you have untreated residual apneas and perhaps they might raise the "minimum or/ and maximum cpap pressure also" (if you have an auto cpap machine) or just your cpap pressure (if you have a regular straight forward cpap machine.) You are right in thinking it is indicating minor OSA at this point and yes it still poses health risk. Get your card downloaded by the medical equipment company and fax the report to your doctor to have it interpreted. Leave a message with the nurse to have the doctor take a peek at it. Many of them will do it and prescribe changes without you having to go in and see them. But definitely do a follow up visit in the time frame your doctor asked you to do so.
