I have a piece of luggage that is hard like yours, which is exactly the measurements allowed for a personal item. It fits perfectly on that box at the airport but not under the seat. We flew with Spirit and had trouble fitting it under the seat but the fly attendant had no problem with us using the overhead compartment for it. However, when I tried to fit it in Frontier’s box to measure it, it did not fit, even though they have the same measurements restrictions as Spirit (18x14x8). Just wanted to give everybody the heads up that other airlines manipulate their measurements.
Yes! I’ve recently come to find out that spirit gives a slight amount of wiggle room where frontier absolutely does not.
We always just put our luggage in the overhead bin. The great thing about having to pay for a carryon is most people don’t bring them. Plenty of room left up top.

Although Sprit and Frontier Airlines stated personal item size is the same. Frontier's bin uses that exact measurement 18x14x8, while Spirit bin gives a little more about 18x14x8.5 or so. Which is why some luggages like takeoff which measures 18x14x8.5 (without the wheels) can fit in Spirits bin and not Frontiers bin (without cramming it).
Edit: FYI, since this video was made and I originally made this comment Take Off luggage recently designed and added a suitcase to accommodate Frontier’s exact measurements once they discovered the discrepancy between airline bins, so they now offer a expandable and non-expandable version. It use to be only one version, which is the one in the video.
Takeoff luggage expanded luggage will not fit in Frontier bin. The regular takeoff luggage will fit in both, frontier and spirit

@@Teachmond I’m going to put you up on game real quick because I just flew a couple times within the last few month and it was an experience. So first I just wanted to update that Take Off luggage recently added a suitcase to accommodate Frontier once they discovered the discrepancy in bin sizes. I spoke with the owner and preordered the first batch they made a few months ago. Frontier gate agents will sometimes make you get out of the boarding line and check all personal bag sizes. If you choose this option you can’t have another bag, purse, nothing, or your personal item luggage will be charged a carry-on fee. If you think you will need another luggage I suggest you pay for it online ahead of time. As your flight date gets closer the luggage fees increase over time and it increases more at the airport. Checked bags are cheaper than carry-ons. If you’re going to check a bag make sure it’s within the measurements and weight which is only 40 pounds (under-packed). If you go over (which is easy to do) it’s a significant additional oversized fee. If you don’t have a scale at home take your luggage to the airport and have it weighed in advance so you can make adjustments (what I did and it saved me money). Go to the airport extra early. They want you to do everything at the kiosk and that often times presents problems. Don’t try to go to the agent desk at check in without the kiosk telling to see agent or you will be charged a fee for that as well. Sorry so long, but hopefully this will save you some stress and money.
Make it a backpack too and I'll be the first to buy! I like my Handsfree and then rolling at the gate while waiting and sitting down. I love a luggage that doesn't tip over and avoids the ground (rollers). Pockets up front for quick documents, money & phone access. This is the closest to a personal size luggage with wheels dream come true 😍

I've always avoided spinners in the past, because I thought the wheels got in the way. This sure solves that problem. I also like that they come in colors other than black and that the interior is not black!

This was a video I was looking for!! I have a 18x14x8.5 hard sided with wheels as well. I was just telling my boys last night that i will be taking a small screwdriver with us on our trip just in case I have to take the wheels off myself when we get to the airport. Your bag is way more convenient. I didnt know they sold luggage with removable wheels.
Ah! I’m so glad I could be helpful to you! This is a brand new bag that just came on the market! I got one of their very first bags. That first shipment of bags is sold out, but they’re taking pre-orders for the next shipment!
With your bag, I would board the plan after most people have gotten on and they’re trying to hurry everyone on. Then carry your bag, don’t roll it past the boarding agents.
Remember you cannot take a screwdriver bigger than 7 inches measuring end to end with you on a plane. Even then, they may not allow it through security so just keep that in mind. I’ve never tried to take one so I really can’t say!

Exactly…this is what I specifically notified TAKEOFF Luggage of. When the wheels are still attached to your bag it does not fit in Frontier’s personal item sizer! “ Including handles, wheels, and straps. “ Frontier staff does not allow or honor the adjustability of the wheels to be removed. As a consumer, this is crucially important information to know and be informed of when purchasing a bag to pack and take as a personal item for travel to make an informed decision. This is the wording they got me with. The specific wording Frontier is using to validate and use as proof to explain and force passengers to pay for a carry-on at the gate during boarding. I don’t feel as if TakeOff luggage is misrepresenting anything. It’s just a fact that TakeOff luggage is not accepted and approved as a personal item with Frontier Airlines. Customers are purchasing this bag with a false sense of security. Many may not have the funds to pay for a carry-on at the gate as boarding. This is extremely problematic and possibly devastating to an economically impacted person. Frontier does not care that the wheels can be removed. TakeOff luggage bags are NOT permitted or approved to be a personal item Frontier Airline ( period ). TakeOff Luggage is manufactured with wheels and is a rolling bag, there is no getting around that fact. Therefore, it does not fit in the sizer for a personal item. And *YES* I filed a complaint. Frontier is forcing passengers who have this luggage to pay for a carry-on. And will not allow passengers to board the plane with their TAKEOFF LUGGAGE without paying for a carry-on. Please understand the importance of the information I’m passing on. This puts the customer buying your luggage in a compromising position. Yes, I completely get and understand it’s the discretion of the Frontier employee and may not happen every time a person travels. It does not negate the fact a passenger that chooses to take this luggage may or may not be forced to pay a bag fee at the gate. This risk may be too high for some of the persons who have bought your luggage to travel with and used to pack their items to take on the plane with the intent of this bag being their personal item. FRONTIER AIRLINE INSISTS TAKEOFF LUGGAGE IS A CARRY-ON BAG ONLY! “Large Backpacks, small duffel bags, and small suitcases/wheeled bags.” are to be paid for as carry-on baggage.
no one can force you to put the wheels on. especially if you show up to the gate with them off. if it fits without the wheels it should be a no brainer.
I mean, once you start wheeling up to the gate…your bag is over the size of the bin. I would think one would need to have the wheels off before you head up to board. It may be a bit inconvenient but it’s known these carriers try to find a way to make you pay. There’s nothing saying a personal item can’t be a hard shell case of some sort but rolling up with the handle extended and wheels on, they can enforce the policy.
@@urban_AL_ the bag is inconspicuous. If you carry it by the side handle, instead of rolling up, wheels on, they are not gonna stop you. I’m using the wheels to walk through the airport. Once I get near my gate and sit down…I’m discreetly taking the wheels off and carrying it onto the plane. Not taking any chances. I’ll get ready to board and they say anything…no adjustments will be needed.
That’s what I do! Use the wheels for airport then take them off as soon as I sit at my gate.
@@breakawayonabudget They are looking for a way to charge you. It actually doesn’t look like a personal item based on the size…it’s genius how it’s made to make the most of every inch of the allotment.
I couldn’t imagine, going up to the gate in all it’s glory and not being immediately stopped.
When I use my Boarding Blue bag I keep it as inconspicuous as possible. Not overfilling it just in case they ask for proof so I don’t have to stuff it in.

It’s such a nice suitcase. My only drawbacks are, if you had to pull the liquid bag it would be a bit of a pain and in flight you have no outside pocket to grab a book to whatever you need. But otherwise wonderful and roomy. Thank you
One suggestion that i heard and now do is pack a small bag of stuff inside the suitcase that i pull out before storing suitcase underneath seat, to be used specifically for the plane-like battery pack, phone, earbuds, eyedrops, eye mask socks, gum, magazine, thin blanket, etc.

I've flown Frontier a ton with softsided backpacks with no issue, but they've cracked down so much (you aren't allowed to squish your bag at all) in recent months that I'm afraid to carry one that's within size guidelines in case my clothes shift and I have to squish it. I just ordered this bag without the extender. I'm so looking forward to using it!

Do you have any pictures of the inside of the suitcase where the wheels attach? Does it take up a lot of space?
I cant post pictures in the comments unfortunately, but if you check out the video at 13:55 you can see the inside of the bag. I don't really show where the wheels attach on the inside, but it takes up minimal space. Most of the hardware is on the outside of the bag.

Question....so do you suggest automatically taking the wheels off BEFORE there’s a chance of being asked to place the bag in the sizer? That’s a great question! Honestly I’ll be taking off the wheels before I get in line to board the plane. You’ll have to have them off to fit it under the seat. I don’t see the need to “provoke the bear” so to say haha. I hate getting stopped and having to size check my bag. I just want to get on the plane and get to where I’m going or get home.
I’ll reattach the wheels when I’m getting ready to deplane and just roll it along.

Just traveled with it on a flight out of LGA, I was asked to put it in the bag sizer, unfortunately I may have overstuffed mine because I couldn’t make it fit now matter how hard I tried to push in down. I will say however that length wise it definitely worked. To be on the safe side you may want to take your wheels off just in case because the bag “appears” to be larger. Hope this helps!

I just ordered one and I think I will like it, but it was not expandable. Wonder if they changed the design?
They just changed over to a non-expandable. With the extra zipper to expand the luggage, it made it too bulky for the Frontier sizer. I’m working on getting one of these without the expander the investigate!

If I am traveling with my laptop or external monitor, hands down underseat pro rolling personal item. I’m able to pack one in the front and one in the middle of my clothes.
If I’m going on just a trip with no work, I’ll take the Takeoff luggage.
If I’m throwing things together last minute, I’ll pack the underseat pro.
If I’m actually methodical in my packing I’ll do the underseat.
Honestly I like them both and you can’t go wrong with either one!

Hi! I'm enjoying your channel. Just found you and Spirit. 😁 In one of your videos you mentioned that you don't pay for seats. Does Spirit make sure you and your child are together or do you have to ask people to switch with you?
No, we never pay for seats. When it’s time to check on for our flight, I will look at the seat map for the flight to see what seats are still available. I will always check in when there are seats still next to each other.
When we check in and there are no seats next to each other is when we’ve gotten separated. If this happens, take your tickets to the gate agent and they will help you get sorted.

Do you think my Mia Toro 15x14.25x9.25 would fit under spirt seat?
Is it a hard sided or soft sided? Being soft sided you can smoosh and be fine. If it’s hard sided, then no it will not fit under the seat. Spirit does have a very slight amount of wiggle room to allow up to 8.5 inches width, but it’s tight.

Thanks for posting this! Have you used this for travel yet? I am looking for a smaller carry on bag for traveling to Europe and i'd love to know how the wheels hold up! I'll be wheeling over cobblestone streets and through multiple airports so having detachable wheels makes me a little nervous for durability. Thanks!
I am going to use it in a few weeks for travel but I haven’t actually traveled just yet. I have tested it quite a few times though. I took it to the airport empty and it rolled over concrete, pavement and carpet just fine. The wheels are attached super strong. I have no fear of them breaking. I’m trying to think if we have cobblestone anywhere in town that I could test the wheels on. I think we have an old brick road I could try which would be similar. I’ll go for a drive about town and see if I can find anywhere to test the wheels out on!
I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised if you buy one and see just how well they are made. They just went live on Amazon if you wanted to buy from there for the prime shipping and returns! I added the link in the comments and the description box as well.

Hmmmm. I think that is difficult to say. I like all the underseaters for various reasons. They all have their pros and cons. I like this suitcase for the 4 wheels and hardcase. That said, being hardcase there are no outside pockets to shove my boarding pass, drink, etc. I think any one of the underseat bags are amazing. You just have to figure out what you like in a bag and go with that. All the bags I have videos of are having supply issues. I'd love to do a video comparison of them all when they are all in stock.
So the Take Off with the expander (even not used) is too big for Frontier.
That’s correct. The extra zipper on the suitcase makes it too big to fit frontier.

Wonder what will happen after the merger with JetBlue?, their policy is:17 by 13 by 8 inches, handles and wheels included.
It's going to be interesting! Once things are concrete I'll have more videos about the merger. This luggage still fits the multiple other airlines personal luggage dimensions.
The Spirit stockholders voted 2 weeks ago to approve the merger with JetBlue. That was the first hurdle. Now they have to convince the DOJ and the Biden administration to allow this merger with federal antitrust laws. Right now the DOJ is suing to prevent a merger between JetBlue and American Airlines in Boston and New York. Will this merger pass the DOJ? Hard to say honestly. I think it could go both ways, but I dont know too much about the process, I'll admit.

do they really make you measure your personal item?
Sure do! I’ve been asked 4 or 5 times to put my bag in the sizer before I boarded. I’ve seen the gate agent walk around looking at peoples bags that are waiting to board.
Some agents are really strict but some aren’t. It’s really a roll of the dice which one you get.

@@Sunshine4 oohhhhh I have a friend that flew Ryan air! I’ve heard all about a few of the European budget airlines! I believe this would fit and it’s super light weight. I know some of those carriers have a weight limit.

Great luggage but a bit steep in price to be honest. $100-120 😕
It’s actually really well made. Also if you fly one roundtrip flight, the bag pays for itself. If you fly a lot it’s a good investment. If you don’t travel often, a cheaper bag or weekender would be the better option for sure. It’s definitely a personal decision if the price tag is right for you.

Yeah, of course. 4 cheap wheels sticking out is a scam perpetrated by Chinese luggage manufacturers. The airline already knows you're losing a lot of space, and they're fine with that.

I’m confused. Your 10% discount is useless as the site ONLY offers pre-order. I read through all the comments and replies so that I can decide if I really want it but, here are some issues that I’ve encountered:
First, the website is a tad misleading; the pre-order price is 50% off at $99 making this bag with no warranty at a price point of $199 but, you warned us that the sale will end and the price would be back at $119?????
You mentioned testing the wheels however, you did so with an empty case. The true test would be with a full bag. The Amazon site does not give any specific details in regards to materials, zipper/spinner wheel quality or any type of warranty.
I am hard pressed to spend $120 on a product that has no backing nor description in regards to its quality.
It’s important for a business to have transparency in this day and age. Not disclosing pertinent information
regarding their product and most importantly not backing the quality of their products with a warranty is disconcerting.
I think that it has incredible potential especially, for international travel but, for $199 or $120 (whichever it is) I want a warranty that reflects the cost.
On a positive note, since I am a prime member I can risk it, rigorously test it and if it fails…send it back for a refund. Who knows this could be one of those instances where you find a gem inside a piece of coal..and if so I too will gladly spread the word.

@@marialmanza2693 Hmmmm. I think that is difficult to say. I like all the underseaters for various reasons. They all have their pros and cons. I like this suitcase for the 4 wheels and hardcase. That said, being hardcase there are no outside pockets to shove my boarding pass, drink, etc. I think any one of the underseat bags are amazing. You just have to figure out what you like in a bag and go with that. All the bags I have videos of are having supply issues. I'd love to do a video comparison of them all when they are all in stock.
