I was at the airport recently and observed a passenger at the boarding gate being told that her bag was too big and she had to pay. I had bought the same bag from Wal-Mart and returned it after doing a check beforehand at the airport. The bags fitted Spirits specs but the wheels and crossbar prevented it from fitting into the bin. Honesty, from just eyeballing it one would have thought that it was okay. So, the passenger got pass check-in and was ready to board. I've found with previous flights that (as others have stated) soft bags are best as they can be manipulated. Sometimes a bag will not fit one way, but can be turned another way and it will fit.
I have found that a backpack or small duffel are your best bet when doing Spirit's Bare Fare. I just used my Ebags rewards to get a Dakine Prom backpack and it's specs are almost perfect for going bare fare. That said, I've flown Spirit many times and I've never seen any Spirit staff make a passenger size their bag.
High Maintenance Minimalist I have actually seen them measure bags out of the Florida airport and sometimes Chicago. It really just depends on the people working that day and how full the flight is😏

Hi Rox! During my last travel I remember checking the weight of my carry on into their metal box and yes, the size is just perfect for handcarry. It can also fit under the seat. That makes me really like this bag from Nomad Lane. It's just so convenient to use.

Same here.. I paid to check a bag but didn't realise you have to pay for a carry on, too.. Mine is too big, but it os a fabroc back pack so at least I can put it in a bag that will fit inside there sizing box!
I measure my bags at home or at store before buying, with wheels and handle. If too big, I keep trying until one is the right measurement. What I hate is certain bags say carryon friendly, but when measured isn't with wheels and handle. I also fly another airline.
Nice video but a little deceiving because we all know those pillows can be smooshed crushed pushdown easly... it doesn't equal out to regular items in a bag that cannot be smooshed crushed and push down so easily

Sorry for your loss. A purse is considered a personal item, I would suggest you put your purse inside a backpack that meets the personal item size measurements of Frontier (they have the same measurements as Spirit)
Tie two colored ribbons around the handle to your luggage to warn others that this is not their luggage. People grab luggage at the turnstile and take it home before you ever see it.

Hi Jennifer! See High Maintenance Minimalist's comment, I think his experience will help with your questions. This will be my first trip on Spirit but my research agrees with his statements that Spirit does not seem to have bag "police" out sizing bags in most cases. As long as your bag does not appear excessively large or suitcase-like , you'll probably skate on by. That said, it is probably better to have soft sided luggage with a bit of flexibility because as you probably saw in my video, technically a hard sided item (like my orange carry-on) would not fit in their sizer at 19 inches long (if you are the rare case that gets challenged). just wanted to update you. i went to my local airport to check if the luggage fit and it did! it fit perfectly! my guess is that it gives you about 1 inch of wiggle room. but thank you for your respond

I think people complain too much. You get what you pay for. I got one way to DR for 130.00 on Spirit with all the savings paid xtra for big front seats.. Still winning with comfort. I don't always fly spirit but if the price is right...I go for it and be quiet.

Left to right of the box (represents the wheels to handle height), the bottom of the box to the top (represents the width), then front to back ( represents the depth)? You had said that the black bag measured 22 inches long and 14 inches wide. When you put that black bag into the carry on then, it seems like you still had about an inch from left to right as it sits in the box. And also looks like you had about at least 3 or 4 in before the bag was flush with the top of the box.
Can someone please answer this! Would they be forgiving if my bag is actually 18.5 inches? All other dimensions meet. I'd hate to pay for because my only bag is half an inch larger.. I hope to get an answer soon.. I'm flying tomorrow with Spirit! Thank you guys

I didn't know you could visit the airport first to test a variety of bags. Is this possible for anyone or did you have special permission? First time traveler.
Anybody can go, since it is the check-in area, that is before TSA. However, what is easier is just buy a compliant size luggage online. You just put in the dimensions and for sure Amazon has luggage that is compliant with Spirit and other airlines standards for a personal item, not a carry-on bag.

No. You're only allowed 1 personal bag for free. That personal bag must fit in that upper bin she showed. You have to pay for anything more than that.

Unfortunately you can’t, a sling bag on its own is considered a personal item. You can take a Fanny pack AND your personal item though
