    Fun fact about Tony Jaa: when he was young and watching all the kung fu movies, he didn't know they used wires so he thought he actually had to be able to do all those crazy athletic jumps moves and acrobatics so he just trained crazy hard to be able to.

      Well tbh Tony jaa was great when he came on the scene. Specially in Ong Bak and Tom yum goong. Then once he went crazy and became a monk, his return has not been that great. His physique was amazing before he became a monk but not anymore. He looks slow and out of shape. Plus his strikes dont look that clean anymore. He used to be so much cleaner in his strikes but i feel that he has regressed. Iko Uwais on the other hand has improved his strikes. In merantau his kicks looked bad as kicking was not major in his martial arts style but now he has cleaned up his kicking game. I was a huge Tony Jaa fan specially after watching Ong Bak but hes not the same guy anymore.

    What I personally love about Tony Jaa films is that all the techniques are real old style thai fighting techniques. Most people wouldn't maybe get the arm breaking scene in The Protector, but an elbow breaking technique is extremely effective in a real life or death scenario. One move and the guy is no longer a threat. Besides, those were one of the first things taught to us in IMBA (International Muay Boran Academy)

    You've got twelve guys with long spears and you're facing one guy without much reach, who fight by flying forward with attacks. Hold your spears in front of you, stand in two horizontal rows and walk forward with just enough speed to make it uncomfortable for him to fight while walking backward. If you throw your self forward at ranks of spears, you die. Alexander the Great conquered the world doing exactly this. Now, if he's on an elephant, that's different. Alexander the Great got his ass kicked trying to fight elephants with spears.

    Fun fact: When I first saw the Protector, it was an internet bootleg titled as "Ong Bak 2" (which it wasn't, obviously) and the subtitles were in Chinese, so we just had to guess what he was saying throughout the whole movie. When I finally saw it with English subtitles, it turned out that we were right. "Where's my elephant?!?"

    A lot of people think it’s Muay Thai that he does, but he does the real traditional style of it called Muay Boran. Muay Thai basically watered it down for combat sports so it’s different from what Tony Jaa actually does. Most the moves you see him do, you won’t see in Muay Thai today cause most the moves he does are illegal and have been banned

    The story sums it up. Tony was 10-years-old and was watching Bruce Lee films (which is like 80% fake/wires), and he told his parents that he wanted to become like Bruce Lee and if they didn't let him he would kill himself. And, to make clear, he didn't want to be like the real Bruce Lee, he wanted to be the flying, superhuman on-screen Bruce Lee. That explains why Tony is superhuman. He trained since age 10 to actually be Bruce Lee on-screen, and he's the only human I know of that gets close to that (insane jumping, speed, power, etc.), though I am sure a few Olympic athletes are also at that level for some of the skills, but overall, Tony is just amazing. Of course, Bruce Lee himself did cite the Thai fighters as being the best in Asia along with the Chinese, and I think everybody knows by this point that Muay Thai is a very serious fighting style.

    Tony Jaa Is amazing. It is sad that his career could have gone much further and nowadays Thai movies are not what they used to in early 2000, ONG Back was a game changer. His stunt team is just amazing, really, I watched Tony Jaa in Bangkok do many of those stunts life, like 3 meters from me whe they were promoting Tom Yam Goong, I beleive is called the protector in USA, and the control that Tony Jaa has when delivering somersault kicks is incredible, but in some of the scenes, those guys really get hit, and much worst, like hard falls and all. Great stuff! Very talented people.

  • @conorfoster2337
    @conorfoster2337 3 года назад

    Fun fact, that dope ass looking tiled style of armor was a real thing. Not sure if it was a thing in that period in that place, but it was an easier way to give a person metal plate all over their body without having to hand fit a few big pieces over the chest, shoulders, thighs, etc. Just measure the guy and rivet the plates to a jacket that fits him and you have some dope ass armor that is able to be much more widely issued.

    Tony Jaa used to be a stuntman. In that era, Thai stuntmen will play for real, really hurt. He is an action movie actor. who studied both western and eastern Muay Thai martial arts Master a variety of martial arts, weapons, sports and exercises. The first movie that Tony Jaa starred in. Ong Bak story Play for real. Really hurts. No stuntman, no sling. 🇹🇭
