    As a scratch golfer, I love my gen 3 P790's......had them in the bag for 6 months now with KBS Tour S shafts and they've made a massive difference to my game. Added 10 yards to each club but crucially I've been able to retain spin (Prov1x) 👍 These clubs are not just for higher handicappers, so if you're a low handicapper, wanting a little help from your irons, I highly recommend.

    Got fit for these today at my club by Taylormade reps. Very impressed with the clubs AND the reps. Was playing 921 hot metals and I gotta say the P790s out performed them. I tend to get a little too shallow at times and loose distance with the 921s. I tried steep and shallow shots with the p790s and the turf interaction was really good either way (on real grass), 162-165 yd (7i) consistently. This was all done after playing 18 in 90° heat, was worried I would be too worn out to put good swings on during this fitting, but these clubs made it easy even with varying strikes. Never thought I would replace a one year old set of irons but it was a no brainer for me. Definitely do it through a fitter, they put me 2° flat and dialed my ball flight right in.

    Has this new generation of speedfoam, in combination with the other P790 design features, finally given the consumer a TRUE forgiving "players style" iron that doesn't have that 5-10% chance of blasting an iron shot 15 yards further than your average? If I recall, previous generations of many manufacturers' hollow body irons all had that same issue. If so, this iteration really is a great response to manufacturing a club that every handicap can benefit from!

    My biggest issue with these clubs is not being able to really tell where you are hitting it on the face. Yes for the average golfer who just wants decent forgiveness and performance these are great, but I've always felt knowing exactly where you hit the ball on the face can help improve your game. Feedback is important for players who want to improve and these just didn't seem to provide that (at least when I tested them out).

    • @patrickscribner

      @@patrickscribner For those who are trying to improve their ball striking, not knowing where you hit it off the face will hinder improvement. The goal for most golfers is to be able to play with "players" irons to be as consistent as possible. These do not provide that consistency.

    Great video, what I don’t understand is when you’d switch from something like this to more of a players iron, at what point is your ball striking so good that you should trade that forgiveness and consistency for shaping and feel?

    • @JDPGH7
      @JDPGH7 3 года назад +1

      whenever you as a player feel that something that isn’t as workable is hurting your game is some way. If you find yourself always trying to draw/fade into pins, around trees, etc. then something more players like would be a lot better if your ballstriking can handle it. I play the 2021 apex pro’s because they’re forgiving enough for me and as a shallow player, I needed a thinner sole with less bounce. It’s also interesting that the more i use thin clubs like the apex pro, the bigger they start to look 😂

    My issue with the original 790 (@ 6.3 handicap) was my gap between the 7iron and 8iron. My 8 would carry 160 and 7 would go 190. What to do when 175 out?

    I saw both the 2021 vs the 2019 in person today. I normally trust what these guys are saying, but i completely disagree with Matty. The 2021s are objectively thicker than the 2019s, very similar to the 2017s which I had gamed. The topline on the heel side is more raised than the 2019 too. There is visually more offset in the 2021, (similar with 2017) compared to the 2019. It seems like taylormade just changed the back of the iron, but went with the overall headshape as the 2017 model.

    I’m having an internal struggle. The boys at TXG are going to test out the 💎💎💎 heads from callaway and knowing them they will hit them well. Buy one now before they sell out or buy one on Golf WRX after most members realize for the 10th time that they are not you gents? Kinda like the 10 1k 50TX shafts floatin’ around on there…

    I’m a 16 handicap and my mind is leaning toward getting more traditional lofted irons. This strong lofted stuff kinda turns me off. I don’t want more distance, I want a steeper angle into the green to stop the ball. I’m always playing the front green distance to accommodate roll out. Any advice or input is welcome from all.
