I have watched hundreds and hundreds of hours of teachers teaching and I think this is the first time I have understood anything from one of them. No body wants to commit to a particular technique (in support) and here it is beautifully explained, as well as answering all the questions I have had for years about why I sing differently when I use one particular attack, and different again when I use different support! ahhh! if only I had been to a teacher of this caliber! Amazing! such knowledge!
Aanother brilliant video revealing the true Roman School of dinging. I myself sang naturally until an accident haemorrhaged my left vocal fold whic is now composed of scar tissue and paralysed. YET, after years of rest I taught myself to sing again and at 65 have just sung Don Alfonso in Così, Prince Gremin I Eugene Onegin and am about to sing Germont Père in Traviata and Capulet in Romeo and Juliette. Obviously I can’t hear my own voice but people say it floods the place with sound even when singing softly and that every word is clear and distinct at the far reach of the theatre and yet I never try to sing loudly and never try to articulate. I just set up my posture and sing. Great feeling. You young singers, this man speaks the truth. Every quotation of Caruso, Tettrazzini etc is accurate and given in the correct context. Listen and learn.

Dear Michael. I just love your videos. I have started at a late age (55) to learn opera singing, about six years ago, and have made tremendous progress with my teacher. I am a lyrico-spinto tenor. I have tried many different teachers, and can now tell the difference between teaching methods and aims , if nothing else, judging from my progress and quality of singing I was a able to develop changing teacher. I find your videos just amazing and so clear to understand. They bring all the pieces of my experience together , in the most perfect and harmonious way, when listening to you. I can also see that the one who is teaching, I mean you, had an amazing voice color , which , unfortunately , as a european, I did not have the chance to discover earlier. i wish I can be as dynamic as you are, when I reach your age . Thank you a thousand times for your releases on youtube ( I just ordered your book...!).
My best vocal teacher had me sitting in a chair with my head resting looking up while I vocalized . I had instingtivly done that on my high notes before meeting him but when I did so I had recieved remarkes from other teacher´s. The thing I felt that he did wrong was darkening my vowels which made my high notes heavy and daft. He would have been a really good teacher if he hadn´t had his macho opinion about singing. I personally love all great tenors from Schipa, Alva and Valetti to Del Monaco, Vickers, Melcior and Corelli. My teacher had a high light lyric tenor voice but he idolized dramatic singers like Corelli and saw that as the ideal of singing without really considering my voice as a student. I think that everything you have said in the videos here on youtube and also in your scripts on your website makes perfect sense. The sad thing is that your style of teaching and knowledge is rare. I think that if a teacher tells you something about technique then that shouldn´t change as the voice developes.

Im having exact these problems currently in my vocal studies here in the Hochschule für Musik in Karlsruhe. Its so hard for me to find this exact point of attacking the note and not pushing/spitting all of my air out, before I'm even half through the phrase and I'm either to "heavy" or to "light" the on between is so hard to find for me. I wish I could hear your take on my voice, because I get often told I am a baritone just because I have trouble reaching the high notes. You are correct once again, maestro! As you know, Im a spinto, and believe it or not, you've hit the mark on my singing. I am making a conscious attempt to sing "LIGHTLY" and lyrically, instead of tearing the paint from the walls. I love this lesson. Thank you for sharing.
Mr Trimble, have you heard that Tito Schipa was asked about his approuch to singing and he said something like "the voice is always small it´s never big the breath then comes in and carries it away. I´ve also heard that he was asked if he was a dramatic tenor like Del Monaco would he reconsider that statement and he replied in that case I would think even smaller! The notes that I personally have been most satisfyed with have felt small but vibrant. I like the word focus to describe what light and small really means for me. The voice should in my opinion seek the same focus as someone using a magnifier to create fire. This must of course be done with an open throat.
I have tried to practice your breathing technique for 4 months after 2 years of learning breathing like a sleeping baby , but prevent the epicgastric area and pelvis area from collapsing when exhale is alway a problem. they both collapse and send all the tension back to the back and butt, which make pain happened. Sometime when i expand my rib the belly expand aswell even when i try to forgot it. So , Is there any way to make the belly not involve in the breathing system , in short, how to cure the sleeping baby breathing? I 've try to pull my abdomen in when i inhale but it didnt work, it even creating more tension. Hope to see your reply!
Mr. Michael, would you be so kind to do one video on vocal cry or baby cry in tenor(or any other) voice. you mention that one must use diaphragm, pushing out like a baby, but i have heard that there is also cry in voice, which aids in passaggio area and high notes.

Hi! Mr Trimble I have a question regarding the term "verhalten singen". If I hold my nose singing imagining that I breath in through the nose and out of the mouth while I´m singing it helps me in getting a none forced production of tone. This doesn´t create nasality in the tone of my voice and still I feel the voice is lifted up.
@@Tenoretrimble I've seen many lessons and nothing made sense to me until I got your videos... I was stuck in many techniques such as mixed voice nasal voice etcetera and all I needed to know was to learn open throat technique and all my problems were gone

Now i feel so desperate because I dont know how to get my natrual breathing back. Is it possible for me to get my voice back or it is ruined forever(the voice feel strain and unhealthy) and if it is possible , could you suggest me some exercise or something like that to take everything back in line. Because the more i do exercise, the more i fell the breath develop to the wrong place.

I take it that you still do not want to respond as you think that I am ignoring your advice and that could not be further from the truth. Please do believe me when I say this. 1) I have contacted various martial arts masters and have tried to arrange private lessons with them for a) Qi gong b) Wing Chun One of them, who is a Christian, whom I am really interested in, does not want to teach me and I am trying to convince him to change his mind. I refer to your video on "Slender singing"- ruclips.net/video/7lOr2yo8-7Q/видео.html Find your teaching on "Oo- Ah" slide helpful and it is very consistent with the top down approach. The minute I do it, I already find the pressure from the back muscles against the solar plexus. 1) A question though- Do we do this exercise with the "B" consonant? So that means it would be "Boo-Bah"? 2) In one of your instigators, you recommended using your "Nyah" or "Neh" to find the natural placement of the mask. The NEH does work wonders in helping one's voice to sound naturally forward and bright. But I find that I still have the tendency to descend into throat and my pitching is still NOT AS STEADY as using the "B" consonant. So which is better then- the Neh instigator or the "BE" consonant at the tip of the lips, which would close the nasal passage way and get the voice above the nasal cavities? Please do reply Maestro Trimble and please do not ignore my plea to you for help. For so long I have traversed this long vocal road of isolation, confusion and pain.
