My copy arrived this morning. I had played the original Gibsons version and then the Avalon Hill edition fifty years ago as a history student in Leicester. Visited Bosworth Field many times though archaeology has led to the battlefield moving down the road a bit as indeed so have I. I enjoyed your unboxing, I checked my components watching it. Many thanks.
Unfortunately the paper envelopes didn't work for me. The stickers to seal them on the back flap were pulling the paper off with them when I was re-opening them. Nice idea though. The game itself is great, even the wife enjoyed it.
Been hearing that. Fortunately boxes of 500 or 1000 small ziplocks are quite affordable, and they definitely earn their keep when it comes to a board game collection. Easy to stock up on them. 🤘
Paper instead of plastic is just a joke. The impact...No gamer tosses their games, just their EX's do. It's not going to a landfill...the Turtles are safe.
Crown Of Roses is far more complicated than this since it has more detail, a full card-driven system as opposed to card events alone, and more rules on the whole. Especially compared to the KM Classic and it's fairly straightforward rules. Pretty sure CoR also requires a lot more time to play a full game. That may be a good or bad thing depending on what you're looking for.
M8 u have missed out badly,, this and Up front were, and still are , my drop ded favourite games,,,,,no Kickstarter streatch goals to miss ,,,, cheers 🍻✍🏽
As I said in my comment, Not a big fan of no shrink wrap on the box. The sticky circles will eventually leave a mark, so if you buy later on that will not be great. Also anyone wandering into a shop after eating fish-and-chips and picking up this game will leave grease marks on the unprotected box. :(
The little circle tape on the outside of my box was already starting to come off when I received mine last week. The paper envelopes inside, for stowing the counters, won't last for long either. In the end, the latter will just mean more waste once they need to be discarded for something more durable over the long-term unfortunately.
@@saintsalieri - Sure, it'll last as paper for awhile. Being torn and holed doesn't help it's only purpose of containing small playing pieces, however.
Great video as normal. Great game. Played the original. The new rules are a million times better. ... As for the no shrink wrap on the box. Not a big fan. Played one game against my better judgement and yeah... now I don't ever have to do that again.. until I've forgotten how bad it was 10 years from now. Game design has come so far.
Ordered and eagerly waiting for the game! I appreciate the attempt at sustainability, but those paper bags will be thrown away and replaced with plastic bags im sure for almost every customer. This was probably worse for the environment if anything.
The game first appeared at one of the first two Origins. Either 1974 or 1975 in Baltimore. Forget name of the company. Later AH released a version IIRC. It was a sensation at Origins. *** I also don't remember the map having that many small squares. IMO it looks horrible. Or the cards being horizontal rather than vertical. I'd have to play the new version to be sure, but a big benefit of the old version was the victory conditions. Prestige points sound Euro, though the COIN system has something similar. In the original, you won when you crowned a King, by controlling or killing the other claimants to the thrown. Made for interesting games. *** Finally, sustainability is virtue-signalling at its worse. They waste materials and energy while the owners probably will go out and buy plastic bags and maybe card sleeves. Most gamers keep, take care or trade their games. Owning games from the 60s on is in fact sustainability.
@@NefariousKoel Sorry, I only played the version in the big long box. Forget the publisher. I bought the AH version, but never played it. So I didn't keep track of the rule changes.
@@mikem668 - No worries. I hadn't checked it out since the '80s myself. This new edition is packed with lots of optional extended rules for the Classic rules. Frankly, I was most interested in that one since it's cleaned up and has all those extras. There's stuff for mitigating things like the plague killing a whole army, and numerous other things now.
Played King Maker once in the 1980s, massed my force together then hit by a Plague event card and the entire Army died in the first half hour. Was playing with five other people and the game went on for another five hours with me having nothing to do but be part of the occasion. I wouldn't play it again.

Kingmaker I would play solo for many years when I was young. Brings back many fond memories.

We got ours but without the cards on the side so the red, city and royal cards😢
Looks Great !
The game is from Avalon Hill. I played it a long time ago
Solo sweet!!!! I got to get tis one!
I think those numbers on the cards are votes in Parliament?
I wonder if they printed enough to stock retail for very long. Rumor says the limits are already showing.
How different is this than Crown of Roses by GMT?
Cant say for sure because I haven't played, but the core of Crown of Roses is a block wargame, which is very different from this, I believe.

Nice unboxing and looks fantastic. So is the solo mode only for the classic version?
Yes, that is my understanding.

Cards seem to be an odd size, not your standard Magic-sized cards
They’re European so May not conform to standard US sizes

Ohhh.
would love to see or hear the review after you've played with your father-in-law. 😏👍
My sister can still be triggered by saying:
"Plague in Shrewsbury!"😂
She had the game till then.

It does include the Classic edition which has the old victory conditions & rules. The solo bot is for that part, too.

In Kingmake II only one Noble per faction is killed due to plague.
@@mrsegundas3988 One Noble and all the Troops with him.
Don't enter the city and plagues don't affect you.
